Does the store have a heater I shop in the cold it is very uncomfortable And frustrating Check out lines are extremely long self check out lines or even worse read more

Again, another crowded parking lot. A small store with what seems to be unfriendly angry employees and a limited selection of items, we've decided to head to other Safeways outside of Castro Valley. Many times we've purchased items not paying attention to the expiration dates while shopping, only to arrive home, unpack the groceries and find expired dates on items on many occasions. I'd much rather drive the extra distance and spend the extra money on gas to be treated with kindness and respect, something both Castro Valley Safeway's lack! read more

I always go to the Safeway off of Redwood road but I also needed to go to PetSmart so I decided to go to the Safeway further up the Blvd. I am allergic to most animal products so it can be hard to find certain items per Safeway you go to such as Field Roast, Gardien, Etc. One of the store clerks named Michael helped me find exactly what I needed no questions asked. Most stores I go to, people will not want to help because they find people with allergies like myself, annoying. It was great to finally go somewhere, where I was treated with respect. Michael is an exceptional associate, I am the CSI director of a very successful dealership and let me tell you, I would hire him to work for me if I got the opportunity. I certainly hope they keep him! I will be do my shopping at this Safeway from now on. read more

So last night i went to get ice cream about 10 pm and got in line my ice cream was slowly melting and i could not believe how packed they were but i caught the name of the checker her name was Ami she was fast and got us through the line in no time at all ..she knows her stuff and was very polite i think she needs praise for working under such stressful conditions and with that said cudos to you and keep up the good work Ami read more

I may have to start shopping at another store. For fuck's sake, hire some more checkers.

Not impressed on deli service. I'm waiting in line for a sandwich to be made, there is one customer in front of me and 5 people behind the counter. Ones making the sandwich in front of me and the other 4 stood there talking for over 5 mins looking over at me now and then until finally one came to assist me. I won't be back with that type of customer service. There shift might be 8 hours long, that doesn't mean I want to stand in line for that long read more

First of all, I am a loyal Safeway shopper at this store. I wanted to order Fruit Torte for Sunday and called the East Castro Valley store and the person I spoke to said that no one had shown up for the bakery so I couldn't place an order and would have to call back in the morning when they get in-WOW!!! I had called the Redwood Rd store earlier and was told but was told they were out of shells. I asked when were they expecting to get some in, and the woman didn't have any idea-really!!! I thought they have an inventory system to be able to keep track of items that when they run low, it automatically orders them. This is no way to keep long time loyal customers to continue shopping at your stores-you need to get it together-you're not the only grocery store in town-I'm hoping you are reading these reviews and take action to make sure this doesn't continue to happen. read more

I do the majority of my shopping here because its within walking distance of our house. The produce is not consistent. I stopped going on Sundays because they are always out of things or the produce is just wilted. It gets very busy with long lines due to a lack of checkers. I had them deliver groceries this week and though they got everything in the order, the delivery person just dumped everything in a pile on the floor and was quite rude. read more

The worst Safeway I have ever been. I walked to the front and asked a young man what time they closed . He said we don't and walked away. Whatever that's cool I get it. Walked at midnight no cashier. I walked over a few isles found a worker asked if there was a cashier and the reply was "yea, I'll be right there." I almost wanted to say excuse me for interrupting you. I asked for a bag and didn't get one. After I paid I asked for a bag she was onto the next customer already looked down at the bags as if to say help yourself. So I did and bagged my own groceries. 1 star only because they were open. read more

One of the workers in this store was so effing disgusting !!!!! For one the store was not stocked, like I've never seen a Safeway that empty. And for two there were literally 20 cases of 6pack cranberry juice on sale, 2 for $5. I've been waiting for this sale FOR MONTHS because all i drink is cranberry juice so i grabbed all 20 cases excitedly, as i was walking away one of the workers was talking shit to another worker like "Yea they just grabbed all the Effin cranberry juice now we have to restock it blah blah" and it pissed me off because your customer service is trash you shouldn't be around customers with that attitude over cranberry juice !!!! There was no limit on how many you could be and they totally needed to restock anyways, i just felt like he was being rude and being racist it was very unprofessional! Then i called the store a few minutes ago because I'm home and the manager on duty dang near told me i was lying because as he put it "who would care about cranberry juice. Ok uh I'll look into it" sure u will.. probably was the guy talking shit honestly lol but yea my point why would someone be mad that I'm buying juice. Ugh read more

We were hoping to have a nice, new Safeway here but every time we go in here we get the worst customer service with laziness across the board. There is never an extra effort to go out of their way for the customer. There are a few employees behind the bakery counter who are friendly, but they are the exception to the rule here. We have complained to the corporate offices of Safeway about the lousy attitudes here, but we never received even an acknowledgement. Our family is never returning to this store. I really miss PW Market! read more

During the Covid-19 crisis this store has different hours. They are open from 6:00am-10:00pm. With senior hours on Tuesday and Thursday. Supplies for my family were running low so I decided to venture into this store. I arrived about 10 minutes before they opened. There was about 10 people waiting outside. I didn't feel comfortable standing in a crowd so I waited in my car. The store promptly opened at 6:00. Once inside everyone was on the toilet paper aisle. Though I needed some I once again waiting for the crowd to disperse. I checked out the fruits and vegetables. It was well stocked. I was able to find everything I needed. Next I went to get toilet paper. Though it was sparse of name brand packages, they had a nice selection of their store brand. A 12 pack!! Not bad during these trying times. Limit 1 but for my family we are good for another couple of weeks. I also got a nice big 2 pack of paper towel. Also store brand but looks like decent quality. Another nice find was the antibacterial hand soap. Store brand but yay as well. Once I was done with my shopping. It helps that I made a list and stuck to it. I was ready to face the line. It was actually a nice set up. They had stickers to indicate social distances. They had a sneeze guard to protect both the customer as well as the grocery store clerk. The checker I spoke to was pleasant though she looked tired and stressed just like we all were but I do appreciate the pleasant chat she and I had all things considering. The store had pasta, canned food and beans. Not a lot but it was there. My advice get to the store early. Less crowded, you have a better chance of finding those essentials and it's when the store is the most clean!! read more

I almost always go to this Safeway even though it's not the closest to me and I generally am happy with the range of products and service though I'm going to be more selective in which checker I use. Recently I've had a checker talk on his cell phone the entire time he was checking my stuff. Another time I had to remind the checker (same person) to give me my change, $7, as I was being ushered away. There are some long-time checkers who are excellent but not all are. read more

So far I love this Safeway because its not to crowded... They also have very polite employees (yes sir, thank u sir Etc.)

Staff is for the most part polite. I have not had to return one product yet due to defect. Flowers are always in great condition and produce has yet to be spoiled. They have amazing janitorial maintenance. Great experience every single time ( ONLY HERE). read more

Favorite location my go to Safeway wish I was there now picking up some cupcakes from the bakery need that 2 for 5 bag chips deal or a tuna sandwich with a added chicken strip.... Lordt I'm hungry open up already read more

I'm at this Safeway at least 1 a week literally. It's open 24/7 which is perfect. I always come here for groceries or dinner. Their Safeway brand soup in the front of the store is bomb. Everyone should try it. My favorites are the tomato bisque, jambalaya and baked potato. The Safeway is always clean and it's easy to find what you're looking for. The bathrooms are always clean as well. They're located in the back through the double doors. I also love the self-check out. It makes it easier to come and go as I please. Parking is never too bad here either. read more

I have been to this Safeway many times. Some of the staff are friendly while others can be extremely cold. I went during lunch time and didn't have a great experience with the cashier. However, the team who made my sushi are great! read more

This store is terrible! Even when the parking lot is empty there are long waits. They never have enough check stands open.

My go to for quick grocery trip. It is right by my house and not too crowded like the bigger one downtown. Staff is always friendly and helpful. read more

i love that its 24 hrs overall its not a bad place to shop i usually go in the night time and the cashier are always great to talk to.... great service, still have never had a problem here read more

This reviews for their deli/cafe. Everytime I come here I have to allow a minimum of 15 minutes to get what I want. Whether it be a sandwhich or just some chicken tenders & wedges. Not only is it a waste of time, but it's frustrating. What bugs me even more is that they aren't even busy yet I still have to wait. It's like none of the deli employees want to take the task of making a sandwhich or dealing with it altogether. I've been going to the Redwood st Safeway just 5 min down and not only does their cafe have more options but their attitudes are a lot better. You actually get greeted and helped right away there. read more

I love this place. It's right around the corner from my house and no one cares if I come in looking a hot mess.com because I am baking a cake and had to run out and get sugar lol. They may not have as good of a selection as the one in Pleasonton but the friendly service and smiles keep me coming back when I am in a hurry. I may not come in this place with a smile but somehow I always leave with one. That is important to me being the only Black person in the store (usually). If the customer service is great nothing else matters. Keep up the good work SAFEWAY! read more

This store is nice and clean. The first thing I saw when I walk around. The staff is really helpful and they know the location of items. The best spot in the store is the Meat Department. I ask a tall guy I think his name is Jose. He went out of his way to help me. He cut me a roast and tied it for me. He ask if i wanted a season rub for it it . The flavor is very good! read more

I come here all the time. Its my go to spot and close by my house.. Its ok. I come in and i come out. Pretty small comparing to other safeways. Theres always a bagger to help you out and employees are pretty friendly. I usually go to an asian market since they dont have certain meats that i want like oxtail, short ribs, etc. and they can get pretty pricey. So i always go for sales read more

Don't go anywhere to get a sandwich but this location. MIA, is WONDERFUL, very helpful, very friendly and just plain flat AWSOME!

So initially I would of given this Safeway 2 stars, (this review is based off of the bakery) but I have to admit that the cakes come out really good when they get it right. I ordered a princess cupcake cake and additional 24 cupcakes. When my brother went to pick them up they only gave him the cupcake cake...even though both items were on the same order...they just didnt read the whole order. However after I gave them a call, Kristin (bakery employee) offered to bring the remainder cupcakes to my party..What great service. I was in big trouble as I had no one to go back for them. I am super grateful for Kristin and the kids loved the cupcakes! read more

The store has a good variety, and the staff are pretty friendly. However, I have heard of a crazy amount of robberies happening here within the last few months....some in broad daylight! Until Safeway HQ decides its going to try to do something (e.g. get more security guards, partner with the local Sheriffs Dept, etc.), I won't be going here any more! I suggest you be careful if you decide to go there! read more

Super sick of all the checkers having their cell phones out so that they're distracted and they slow up the line because they're constantly looking at their phones. Phones belong in your locker and you check them on your break. I Can't Believe Management allows this to happen. That doesn't happen at Trader Joe's!!!! read more

I was having a crappy day today and unfortunately it coincided with my son's 4th birthday. I tried making a cake and somehow failed more thoroughly than I thought one could fail at making a cake. On the way to our swim lesson, we stopped at this Safeway hoping we might be able to get him a cake even though we hadn't ordered in advance. Fortunately there was a great selection and my sweet boy chose a round cake decorated with red and green frosting. He was Overjoyed. A lady named Stephanie came out from behind the bakery and started talking to us - we asked if she could put his name and Happy Birthday on the cake, and she said of course, and asked him what color frosting. I echoed her, and asked, "yeah, do you want red or green frosting?" And then Stephanie and I kind of realized at the same time that of course this is a four-year-old and he should pick whatever color he wanted! So we told him that and he picked pink. She went to the back and came back about a minute later with the frosting done - it looked fantastic. We chatted a bit more about a cake for his upcoming party, and then she helped me keep my nutty son from running out into the parking lot. So this is really a review for Stephanie. You know when someone is unexpectedly nice and warm and incredibly efficient and competent? That was my experience with her. That interaction really just turned my whole day around and we had a wonderful family party a couple hours later. Thanks Stephanie!! read more

All of the female employees are rude, and half of the male. It must be a miserable place to work. Needs new staff. Location is great, and the store is kept clean and well stocked. read more

Ok I downloaded this app because I'm so pissed at my last couple experiences here specially the one today. The people in the departments are so sweet and help full but the baggers and cashiers are so rude ! I have other words for them but I will behave for now. They do not like conversation at all! I noticed that certain races are treated differently depending on who's working. My experience today sucked like usual. The lady only asked if I wanted a bag. and get this she didn't even card me for buying my friend a pack of smokes! Mind you I'm only 20 and look young I'm carded every where I go but I couldn't believe that they didn't card me for using a credit card let alone buying a pack of smokes. I work at nob hill in san ramon and this type of thing would never EVER be tolerated ! read more

This is the Safeway our family typically goes to since it's close to our house. The clerks have always been nice and friendly except today. We were checking out with a cashier named Armando. He must be new because my husband and I did not recognize him. He was helping the customer ahead of us bagging their groceries and helping them put stuff in their cart. He told us to start putting our groceries on the conveyor so we did. My husband and I walked up closer to the counter. This Armando without even looking at us said "start bagging your stuff". I told him sarcastically "if we did will we get paid" He just chuckled and we brushed it off. Then he placed an item on the counter and told me rudely mind you "put that in your cart". I'm the type of person who do not put up with rudeness. I looked at him and said loudly "PLEASE?". We looked at me now and made an excuse that he's had a long day. He apologized for his rudeness. I told him I work for the school district and I too have a long day. But that doesn't give a person the right to be rude. I said it loud enough that the other cashier next to him looked at me. If a manager is reading this, I certainly hope you do something about that person's attitude. Next time I come in to the store, I will make sure to go straight to his check out line. Let's see if his attitude actually changed. read more

Come on son! My Safeway is open 24 hours and they have a pretty good produce section too. Never mind that they skimp out on the magazines, it's still all good. Plus it is right by the house.. Can't go wrong. They have a my redbox there too. read more

So the pak n save by my house is in a not so safe neighborhood and the things inside the store seem to be expired more often than not. I decided to make the trip out to this location because it's not as busy as redwood location and it's safe. I had my baby with me and even the customers were nice. When I got to the checkout the cashier saw me holding my baby and she called for assistance and another cart for my groceries since my baby's car seat was inside mine. The cashier helped bag my groceries while another lady came to help check me out. They were all so helpful and kind. It can be really stressful making a grocery trip with a baby but this one was a breeze. Thank you staff I wish I would've gotten names of the people that helped me. read more

Went to this store. Got my groceries, got a bottle of wine. Went to check-out. One cashier working with about 12 people waiting, it was only 9 PM, but all employees seemed to be in stocking mode. Finally Jorge came up to open another register after being paged a few times. Boneload Jorge was unpleasant and dull, he had to page the manager (tall skinny black dude, a dismissive, mindless corporate goon) to verify my Wisconsin ID was legit. Which it apparently wasn't. They don't accept out of state IDs, because, you know, no one ever moves to California from another state. I had purchased beer or wine a dozen or so times at this store using this ID and it was never even mentioned that it could have been a problem. This time I was flat out denied because he thought I looked young or something. Humiliating. I contained my rage instead of projectile vomiting all over their faces, which is what they deserved. The service at Safeways in general has really fallen off over the last few years. This store has really gotten bad. You walk in the store and you can smell the poorly managed seafood display in the back of the store. Also, the baggers! Holy cow, can you stop literally throwing my food into the bag? Today I watched the bagger tossing my yogurts into a bag with a good wrist snap. Of course that was causing a couple to open up and also to bruise the peaches she had thrown in just before. Have some respect for your customers Safeway! This is not the first or only bagger I've seen do this. I just lost my patience this time. read more

I would just get groceries here, I tried getting food at the deli over at the Castro valley Blvd one (because Safeway deli sandwiches are pretty good) but the service at this one was pretty bad. I was waiting to order for a bit but no one acknowledged me until a passing by woman (who worked there) asked around if anyone was working the counter and a girl who's back was behind it and stocking something needed to wash her hands to help me. And then the same woman who was asking around who was working the counter went in front of me and said she was first (an employee) and asked for samples of Mac and cheese. I think this is the second time I just walked away and just went to Subway a couple doors down after I paid my groceries. The woman at the registrar was nice enough to give me a $5 gift card for a sandwich though after I told her what happened but I'll prolly use it for groceries or a sandwich at the Redwood road Safeway. I'm a server too but I have to perform a service and if I just had to take people's orders, make it and check them out right away that's pretty easy. read more
