This Safeway is a hell of a lot cheaper and the men who work here are hot as fuck ( especially on Sunday) As a bonus, they don't feel the need to make pointless comments to customers or to act in an irritating and idiotic fashion. I've given way too much time and money to Newport market only to get nagged and creeped on by the ugly, unprofessional employees. Bottom line. Just shop here instead. Yes, it's a Safeway, part of a huge chain of supermarkets that I'm familiar with. I'd never really gone into it before because my MIL prefers the Ray's Food Place next door, so that's been a go-to 'food place' for a long time. I was in need of a small bottle of contact lens solution, which Rays didn't have, so we trudged across the road to this place. Quelle surprise! This Safeway must be a flagship store, as its enormous size allows it to include 'extras' like a wall full of bulk bins, a kitchenware section featuring Le Creuset (!), a coffee & tea section with more beverage making hardware (coffee presses, travel mugs, grinders, etc.) than I've seen at a Starbuck's and a very impressive produce section. So if you're looking for something a bit off the beaten path (like soft contact lens solution in a small size) and have a sudden desire to fondle upscale kitchenware, this place is worth checking out. read more

I went in looking for something specific not only did they not have it in stock. When I picked up a few other things they failed to give me my sweet tea but they sure charged me for it! While in Bend a couple of weeks ago was in a big hurry to get back home and was starving. Popped into Safeway for a deli sandwich. Was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Very fresh and tasty. Desperate for a last minute gift, I dropped into Safeway. Mary-Ann in the floral department was friendly and helpful. She pulled together a few bunches of flowers and created an impressive floral creation. All for $20! Very reasonable, and everyone enjoyed the resulting bouquet for several days as the roses bloomed. I don't even live here, I'm from Seattle, Wa and I'm here on a business trip. Went to Safeway to buy some items since I'm here for a week and the first time I went I asked a worker where the chargers are, she gave me this blank stare and went looking through all the isles...And then said she didn't know and left...How awkward. Second time I came I bought my items and the cashier said come back soon and I said that oh I don't live here but thanks! And he gave me this very very rude look/stare...Uh..Okay? Not to mention how it took way to long for the workers to realize there was a big line and they needed more checkers out...Hopefully won't have to go again. Very rude and awkward. read more

Went here to grab a quick lunch. I was helped by the most rude, inattentive young woman at the hot foods section. She has short hair, avoid her at all costs! I think that if you aren't comfortable being in the service industry you need to find another job! She would not look at me when she spoke so quietly. She seemed genuinely angered when I asked her to repeat herself. I work in the service industry and this was by far, the worst service I have ever had. Curt staff, management that doesn't care about customers OR the success of their own store. Always out of stock on 1/3 to 1/2 of our grocery list. Bend is a tourist town, and it always booms on the weekends. Can't anyone look at what's selling, and order more before the weekends? And yes, we avoid shopping on the weekends. They're still 1/3 out of stock. Maybe it's concern for freshness. No, that's not it. Half the time I went for coffee they would be out of bags. BAGS! Last time I checked, coffee bags had a long shelf life. The sad part is, lost revenue. We can't purchase what isn't there. So, we go elsewhere, and that store gets the revenue. Hard to believe Ray's didn't make it right across the street, and Safeway survived. read more

I used to shop at this Safeway all the time. Then they got rid of self check out and the lines are ridiculous all the time! Management (mostly middle aged women) are all very rude and not accommodating. Went to the customer service desk a few times to ask questions and wasn't even said hi to. Just stared at until I started asking my question. Other employees have questions and I'm rudely interrupted so they can get answers. No organization. Every time I go early in the morning to avoid the lines, the stocking people are blocking the aisles and so unaware that people are shopping that I'm forced to move products out of my way so I can get to what I need. Some of the checkers are okay. Every time I go there though, I'm flabbergasted by the rudeness of the management. Rochelle, the general store manager, is the worst. Next is Ashley, the assistant store manager. They should be setting an example as how to treat the customers but they are just as rude as the managers. I refuse to shop here anymore. I would rather pay the extra money and shop at Newport market. At least the staff there are friendly and willing to help you if you have questions. They don't act like you are ruining their day if you can't find something. read more

I wouldn't recommend ordering deli party tray's from this or any Safeway in Bend. I had 3rd Street "Misplace" my order once but I kinda expected it out of that store. Then I had Westside do it too! I had ordered the large sandwich tray and a fine cheese and fruit tray and was told that the staff didn't get the order. Really put me in a bind as it was for a meeting for 12 of my bosses! I got an apology and they offered to sell me a day old veggie tray from the produce section for $6 instead of $9. The next day someone from the deli called to ask if I received my order? because she still saw the ticket hanging? Not sure why the offer a catering service? Don't get burned also! If I could give negative stars, I would. The SERIOUS LACK of customer service, starting at the store director level & trickling all the way down, is astounding! I was at the customer service counter & Courtney W. stopped helping me, mid transaction, to help the person behind me because their transaction "would be much faster"...um...WTF? I'm a paying customer & my business should be just as significant as theirs! By the time Courtney began helping me again, I was beyond irritated & asked to speak with a manager. "That's me" was all the reply I got. When I said "Obviously I mean someone other than yourself" she picked up the phone & D. Pepper showed up. I explained what happened and D. turned to Courtney & said "was that you?" to which Courtney nodded as she looked at me & rudely said "well, you should've said 'no' if you weren't ok with it." I'm sorry, what?! Is this seriously how management is allowed to treat people? At this point, I asked for the store director name & a good time to call them. As I left the store, I called customer service & explained what happened. They were as shocked as I was & filed my requested complaint. 4 days go by & I hear from no one. I call customer service back, they look the information up & tell me that the store director indicated they attempted to call me but I didn't answer. COMPLETE & TOTALLY LIES!!!! They never once tried to call me. I had ZERO missed calls from them, zero voice mail, nada. Feeling like they're trying to brush things under the rug & hopefully not get in trouble, I'm even more frustrated! I requested to have the district manager get involved because clearly the store doesn't care. The DM calls me, we discuss the situation, he apologizes, offers me a $25 gift card & states he will get the apology I'm looking for. Welllllll.....it's 3 weeks into this, I have no gift card & haven't heard back from anyone. I know I'm only one person but my business is just as important as the next. I've been a loyal Safeway customer for almost 40 years, which obviously means nothing to them. At this point I wanna say "bite me Safeway" & take my business to Freddy's, Market of Choice, anywhere other than Safeway. It's sad that one person's actions have been allowed to snowball into something so absurd. Goodbye Safeway. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out. read more

Albertsons bought the Safeway chain, so the reorganization/remodel and the change in the bulk section are because of that. This is an excellent Safeway, friendly staff and the manager goes out of her way to be helpful. I have met only one not-so-friendly/helpful staff member, all the rest are great. read more

I've lived here 4 1/2 years and am nearly 50 years old and I can say without hesitation that this is the worst grocery store I have ever experienced. There can be 5 people in the entire store and you'll still wait in a line. I went in to buy 4 items and it took me 30 minutes to get out. If there was a reasonably priced alternative to this store near my house, I'd jump ship in a second. My frustration with this store is unending. read more

Came in to purchase my groceries..I had a bottle of wine and a 12 pack of beer..since my husband didn't have his wallet she wouldn't allow me to complete my purchase.We are CLEARLY of age..I had my ID, I was paying...my husband just forgot his wallet...big deal..I understand why Safeway would have this policy but you can't pick and choose when to enforce it. My husband forgets his wallet all the time..it's NEVER been an issue. Policy is policy..i get that. Either enforce it 100% of the time or dont. Staff shouldn't get to inconvenience me because Karen W. was in the mood. The manager(Teagen) solution was to punish the check on staff last week that didn't card him and only carded me..you would have to punish the staff at both Safeway locations for the past 10 years.. read more
