All Safeway stores are the same which is kind of a good thing because you know what they have when you go in. The store has a nice layout which is good and predictable. It's nice and clean and has some decent lighting. The people working there are quite nice and although I'm a browswer, I occasionally walk away with a treat, usually on sale for me which is cool. Now if I can only get into my account, which is connected to a landline that I no longer have. That would make my day. Otherwise, they are fine. I hate the fact that they have sales only for their members. When you're like me and you've been coming here forever, you have an expectation that people are going to have your back and I should not have to give out a number that I no longer have to use those benefits.

No toilet paper. Yes I see the one on the floor but I ain't using floor paper

Men's bathroom toilet paper is literally on the floor. Been here a few times, this isn't new.

What I ordered

So disappointed I ordered the "Overjoyed Pop Art Sweet Heart Shaped Cake" from the Safeway at 5100 Broadway, expecting it to look like the example shown online. What I received looked nothing like it. The decorating was messy, the writing was uneven and hard to read, and the overall appearance felt rushed and careless. This was meant to be for a fun celebration, and instead it looked like a last-minute DIY project. I understand things may not be perfect, but this was nowhere near the quality that was advertised. Safeway really needs to hold their bakery department to a higher standard when it comes to fulfilling custom orders.

It has been over eight years since I last did a review of this Safeway. It was nice when they first opened. I decided to lower the rating to just okay. (3 stars) Even though this grocery store is closer to my home, the store is crowded, and my shopping experience here is no longer an enjoyable one. It has become a chore. Part of it is I have gotten spoiled to shopping at another grocery store on the other end of town since seven years ago. Said store is in the Bridgeside Shopping area. I only come into this Safeway for convenience. Customer service is good - friendly, but I am too old to walk through a larger store. It has been overwhelming for me to walk down the aisles.

Sometimes it just blows my mind when I realize that I have not written a Yelp review on a place I frequent so often. Quality/Quantity - Hit or miss. This was our favorite location, not sure if there were management changes in the past...? But their out of stock conditions have increased. This location also has all the departments, so it is a one stop shop including a gas station. Atmosphere - This location is the newest/most recently built Safeway on the island. Open 7 days a week from 5am to 1am; Yelp hours differ slightly as they still have their Thanksgiving holiday hours posted. Plenty of mall parking. Service - Okay, not good or bad. Price - Reasonable. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1915 with your 904 locations in 17 states. In 2015, Albertsons purchased Safeway.

I pretty much love this Safeway! It is always well stocked and they have very friendly staff! Plus the parking lot is Farley big so there's always parking! Starbucks location inside of this store that's never bush and also has very friendly staff! Favorite Safeway hands down!

The people at the deli here always are in a terrible mood and take years to get your cuts. Zero motivation and no leadership.

If you want to wait way too long, where they don't respect the "15 item lane" this is your store to go to!

Good selection. The Starbucks and deli are very slow and the staff are not in a hurry.

The pricing is always on par or usually lower than other spots in town. During the pandemic, a beloved clerk there (Kenny, miss you!) told me that a customer had told him they should raise prices on an item, because another market in town was selling it for 30% more or so. Kenny mentioned that to Sam, who firmly said, "no, I'm not raising prices." Our hero. He also stocks things for neighborhood locals if they even mention wanting them. It's the spot for every kid to run into and pick out an ice cream or candy (and maybe tell Amy about their baseball game, she always asks). I went in a few years back after living elsewhere for years, and Sam was so lovely. He also knows my entire family - Mom and Dad go in all the time; Dad is now buying most groceries there; my sister, brother-in-law, and nephews lived in the neighborhood for most of the last years and they travel here weekly now and usually hit up A-1 to get favorites. They have amazing vegetarian and vegan options; the produce is ALWAYS fresh and well-picked (and priced - best price for avocados); the frozen foods are always interesting and tempting; and they have fresh Firebrand bread every day! It's also a really safe space for everyone - kids, adults, all of us. Between the lovely culture he's created, and the insane merchandising skill, and the products... I think Sam might be a magician. Go! You will not be disappointed.

My dog knows the phrase "let's go to the store," because she would live there if she could. Everyone who works there knows the neighborhood, including kid names - I once saw Hong invite a neighborhood kiddo behind the cash register to check people out, and coach him through it. The entire (3 person!) group is very well-attuned to their customers, and trust I've been there enough to know. I'll also second the recommendation for the Vietnamese chicken salad; plus, Yvonne's mom makes egg rolls sometimes. It's also got a ton of parking and is the middle-island best choice for liquor, wine, etc. They host Friday tasting nights with different liquor reps, something to look out for. Easy to get most of your groceries here - I know because I do.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm Black, trans, or both. They even do this to my white partner that's also trans. Just doesn't feel good.
