It's Trader Joe's what's not to like. Do they have everything that Safeway has next door? Well no, but what they do have is typically better than next door at a lower price. Checkout is usually pretty quick. Plus's for me are organic fruit and vegies, salmon, pappidoms, prosecco, brut, cheese, yougurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and tinned fish. The kids call it tinned fish now days. Try ordering "tinned fish" at a wine bar in SF and see your wallet shrink. Not so at TJ's, affordably priced like back in the day. Great selection for a light dinner or snack with the aforementioned cheese. Free snacks are always great. Go back for 2nds and 3rds. Also, single bottles/cans of beer so you can mix and match your on 6 pack with provided carrying case. If you drink to much of this stuff it's the only 6 pack you'll have, BTW. They recently put in a tall freezer isle to handle more product. They are still wirking oit the bugs since usually the glass is so fogged up you can't see anything and when you open the door there are 3-4 inch icicles hanging off the shelves and frozen items. So all in all pretty good but this is a smaller TJ's so less stuff I think. read more

I'm so glad this TJ still has the 15 item or less basket registers. TJ Rockridge & TJ Castro Valley no longer has the basket registers. Employees from both locations lied and told me that all Trader Joe's removed the basket lane. I don't know who was the genius that thought it was a good idea, but like I mentioned before with the holidays fast approaching if you have a few items, you have to wait in the long lines with customers with carts full of groceries. I have become a loyal customer... In both states that I live in. And when I travel... Quality/Quantity - Consistent. They have these snacks that I always buy. Corn Chips for the road - A perfect filling emergency food snack, and it does not leave many crumbs. (Healthy) rice crackers that I add to my plain unbuttered popcorn. Added flavor to my popcorn. I also add pecans which are good for the liver as I still drink more than I should. Atmosphere - One of their smaller and busier locations that we frequent. My current favorite location is in South Reno, NV. Many people in Reno still do not know about it, at least they do not frequent it. So for me, it is very easy in and out. Service - Self service. Easy, quick, and friendly checkout. Usually in the express lane. Price - Very reasonably priced for what you get. I do not even look at prices any more. Many products you can not find anywhere else, so it is okay to pay a little more. This Trader Joe's does have everything, it's just always extremely packed and such a hassle to find parking. This is definitely an afterschool hangout spot for students and you can definitely get stuck in that crossfire. Staff is really nice and the lines do go by rather quickly given how busy this location gets. They always give my son a sticker when we go. I'd say given what I wrote above to make a short review shorter lol, try going at an earlier time to avoid parking terror and large crowds. read more

Got here in Alameda at 7:06am. To get the world famous bag!!! I began seeing people line up at 7:15am! I'm like no! Yesterday I went to Castro Valley Trader Joe's 3rd one there. Didn't know I need to line up! Missed out on bags! Not today I was determined! Got out the car! I was 6th in line. The employees supervisors were so nice. Made you feel very welcoming. They came out 15 min. Until 8am. Explaining they didn't get as many as yesterday. The only give one of each color pink and teal ish. I wasn't worried I was 6th in line so I will be fine! It looked to be 50ish people behind me. I hope everyone gets their bags. It's a beautiful hot day! Bags were $3.99 each! I got shrimp scampi $8.99 and Mac n cheese $2.99 cold press for myself and one for my daughter $1.99 and had the nerve to charge crab 5 cent lol! I'm gonna try to recycle! Probably my favorite grocery stores - I usually go to either this location or the Castro Valley one and both are always a pleasant shopping experience. I find it saves time overall and that is always one of my top priorities. Around the holidays I count on this store for small gifts and food items that don't scream "I bought this bulk from Costco." I like to leave Costco foods for more institutional gathers such as churches with hundreds of people - or maybe big Catholic families where exhausted moms basically give up on the idea of cooking for all. Around the holidays you don't want assembly line food or mass produced pumpkin pies that are just too large to look nice on your fine China. Thankfully they don't sell that here. I think jellied cranberry out of a can is also a big no no... and around Thanksgiving I always grab a couple containers of their special cranberry with orange zest sauce. Their cranberry zest sauce tastes better than homemade and if you place it in your own sauce pan nobody will be the wiser. Don't look like a Catholic mom who gave up with jellied cranberry sauce. Your smarter than that. I loved their waterless Amaryllis for $10. It is glued to a horizontally sliced piece of tree trunk with a bunch of bright green moss all around the perimeter. I don't know about you but I've got this obsession with moss and the whole piece looks very classy. I bought a bunch and carefully packaged them with ingenious design so they could be mailed off as presents for the upcoming holiday. Overall I believe that Trader Joes is a great way to save time. Options like Costco I find I have to set aside a whole afternoon and then another hour or two finding places to store everything at home. Fitting things in the fridge becomes a frustrating game of Tetris and the mere thought of all that puts me in a sour mood. Places like Safeway are better but you still use up mental power thinking about coupons and pricing gimmicks. Really, I'd rather use up my brain power solving bigger problems.... And then I like to watch dog and cat videos on Youtube to replenish more brain power for the next day. read more

At Trader Joe's, there's never a dull moment. The store seems to be packed from opening to closing, including the parking lot. The only thing that varies is how packed they are depending on what time of day, as well as what day it is. And why not? There's much to love about this place. This is one of Alameda's best shopping experiences. It's easily reached by car or bus, and the parking lot is ample. The produce and flowers displayed outside are very welcoming and unique. I like the smaller sized carts, and the wet wipes provided to wipe down one's cart/ hands. The variety of foods is terrific with several cultures represented. The frozen cooked rice is a time saver, just pop a packet in the microwave and it comes out plump and steaming - with no pot to wash. In my observations, many if not most of the offerings are less expensive than at Safeway's next door. The return policy is stellar. Just let the checker know you have a return and s/he'll ring the bell at her station to summon a manager. Then s/he will come over, authorize the return & subtract it from your tab. They don't require a receipt of original purchase. SO much better than next door where one has to wait for the returns clerk to show up. There is no housewares area nor cosmetics aisle in TJ's. There is a limited paper goods section, pet food, bath & sunscreen products as well as vitamins, toothbrushes, an eclectic mix of various non-food items. The Walgreens nearby will have a better variety of most of these things (except the pet items probably). There is a good bakery selection, tons of unique cookies & candies, salty snacks, beverages, and interesting frozen goods - I like the non-dairy ice cream. Good meat, vegan, cheese, greens & frozen seafood selection. Their spice selection is quirky and has some fab choices not found elsewhere. Trader Joe's is a standout - not quite like a trip overseas but definitely trippy in the best way. read more

I love stopping by this Trader Joe's! They always have the newest popular foods available. When the ube craze hit, they had the ube cookies, ube ice cream and the ube mochi pancake mix. Now with the boba frozen desserts being the new craze they have the black tea and boba flavor and the cold brew and boba flavor. I would have to say that I like the cold brew flavor more. Parking is always available. Usually on weekends it is a bit crowded in the front parking but you can always park in a different parking lot at South Shore and walk to Trader Joe's. read more

Knock off one star for overcharging me. I noticed buying 5 things did not equal to $20 and i was right. Review your receipts. I came like 23 minutes before closing. All the worker bees were buzzing and restocking. I scored the korean pancakes. I took the last one! And they just stocked! How popular are they. From Day 1, Trader Joe's has done it right, from providing hand sanitizer to limiting the number of shoppers in the store. Does the line get long at times? Yes. (Hello, Applebee's and Kohl's!) But I'd rather have a safe shopping experience instead of trying to ward off someone hovering over my shoulder in each aisle. Notes/Tips (COVID-specific) - Like I mentioned above, they are limiting the number of shoppers in the store at a time. The longest I've waited is 15 mins. Tip: bring headphones and an audiobook! HP is my favorite. - They sanitize each and every cart used, and will only hand off a cart that's been sanitized. - Items are always well-stocked. Some items have limits on them to prevent hoarding and make it fair to other shoppers. - If you bring your own bags, they won't bag it for you, but they have several tables outside where you can bag your groceries. read more

Store is always busy and most customers are courteous . Workers are helpful sometimes. When asked for a specific product that they always carry , love when they don't know what I am asking for or they don't even care to look and tell me they never carried that product. Some of these workers need some knowledge on their own products. They don't even know what is used for when I asked for a substitute if you didn't have the one I was looking for. Alameda must be one of the top Best Trader Joe's in the East Bay. First parking. You do not have to drive circles to claim a parking space, there is always plenty of parking spaces. I like the fact that they place quick food such as salads and wraps in the front almost right after you walk in. The chicken wrap with the pesto is the best. Nice choice of salads. Nice selection of frozen foods and a large assortment of pizza too. My better half does not like frozen pizza, but I do. In terms of fruit and vegetables, nice displays in the front of the store similar to the Farmer's Market, what a novel idea. Lot of assorted snacks, I love their Pita crackers, so good with the hummus. During Covid-19 times, there are long lines, but the weekdays are truly shorter than the weekend. Why did I choose a 2pm time on a Saturday afternoon? Large selection of different groceries, the prices seem to be lower than the other chain supermarkets. OMG, this is my local Trader Joe's, which I visit on average five times a week, and somehow I've never reviewed it? How's that possible? Argh! Trader Joe's store #109 is located in the middle of the South Shore Shopping Center. There's hundreds of parking spots immediately out front. Conveniently located near the corner of Park Street and Otis Drive, this is the to-go spot for dozens of staples, some keto-friendly foods (including grilled artichoke hearts, cheeses, eggs, hamburger, pork tenderloin, turkey breast, and sopressata salami), and the many TJ-specific offerings (including truffle pâte, many really good coffee beans, and seasonal surprises like unsweetened bakers chocolate, cakes and cookies, and mystery bags). The non-food items, like greeting cards, plants and flowers, and a wide selection of beer, wine, and hard liquors round out any shopping trip. The staff are absolutely wonderful, know their stock and where they may be found, and are always ready to help you find a TJ treasure. 12/15/2020 10:20 am (ish?) I have a pretty bad knee injury & currently walk with a knee brace that has metal rods for stability & support. Because of this, I try to get to stores at a decent time in hopes that it isn't too busy. There wasn't much of a line in front, and upon noticing my knee, the kind store associate offered me a mobility cart. I wish the customers were equally as considerate... but nope! Total assholes. Blocking aisles with their carts, leaving their carts & walking away from them, causing me to have to lean out of the mobility at dangerous angles to reach what I need, and more dick moves that make their faces quite punchable. Feeling an anxiety attack rising, I cut my trip short; not getting the items I needed, and was on the verge of tears. As I was heading to the register, I saw the same employee from earlier. He saw that I was in line & offered to open a register. Bless his heart big time, because I WAS in tears at this point. Despite offering to grab whatever it was that I needed (something that I appreciated, as he really didn't have to) & acknowledging that the pandemic has brought out the asshole in most humans, he apologized & asked me to try and have a great day. There was another sweet young lady in front, who offered me some kind words as well. I made a comment about humans being ass, but I would try to have a good day. The same gentleman from earlier caught up to me by the time I'd hobbled to my car. Apologizing once more cause of rude customers, he gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers & said they were already paid for. I tearfully apologized for embarrassing myself via anxiety, expressing that he really didn't have to. After more words of encouragement from this employee, he insisted that I take them. I wish I'd asked the names of those two employees. It really takes nothing from the spirit to be kind to someone. I wish more were that way. Heartfelt thank you to you both. read more

I love Trader Joe's for their extensive selection of organic, natural, quality foods, and the fact that the meats and dairy come from animals that are raised humanely. And the prices are reasonable, especially given the quality. When you visit, be sure to take advantage of the outdoor produce stand area. We used to shop at the Safeway next door for the most part, but the prices there are too high, and their selection of organic, fresh, nourishing food is far more limited. This most recent time we were in at TJ's, one of the things we were looking for was sulfite-free red wine, and found two different ones. Admittedly, I am a wine snob, so I'm pretty selective about wine. But lately I've been trying to make better choices about using and consuming products with fewer toxins, so sulfite-free wine seemed like a natural (har-har) choice. The Well Read was particularly good, and fruit-forward like I like. We will be buying more of it. The refrigerated packaged food area is bomb. In my perpetual uphill battle to lose weight, I tend to avoid most of these goodies now, but I still take a longing stroll through the aisle. So many delicious things to choose from. I used to buy the pigs in a blanket and mac n' cheese, along with some of the delectable desserts back in the day. Service is also very good here. The employees are friendly and helpful. I've actually considered applying to work here since I've heard so much about how well employees are treated (take note corporate America!). In short, TJ's is our primary grocery stop from now on.
