At the time, I was very pleased with the service and specifically praised Darryl and his team for being prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. Unfortunately, six years later, my experience with the system has been very different. We invested approximately $16,000 in a three-unit Pioneer mini-split system for our home. The first two years were good, but after that the system began losing refrigerant. We have continued to experience problems, and now, after having the coils professionally cleaned, the system is not operating and is displaying an E1 error code. I am disappointed because this was a significant investment, and I expected a reliable system for many years. At this point, I am having another HVAC company independently diagnose the system to determine the actual cause of the problem, including whether there is a refrigerant leak and what is causing the E1 error. I wanted to update my original review because my initial experience was positive, but six years of ownership has given me a much different perspective on the long-term reliability of the installation and system. I believe potential customers deserve to hear both sides of my experience: the service was good when I originally posted this review, but unfortunately, the long-term performance of the system has been disappointing.

AC died in the middle of the night. They came out the next morning and said my unit was too old…read morerepair (just over 20 years old), while ripping out something from the power box and seemingly breaking a component in there. They said they could try to do a repair for about $1.3k but that they couldn't guarantee the repair would be effective because of the condenser. They then tried to sell me on their highest end heat-pump for about $24k, which was too much for our needs, since our furnace was also functional. We ended up choosing a basic AC replacement for around $9k. They were able to install the new unit two days later. However, on the day of the install, they saw some surface level rust on the furnace heat exchanger and tried to get me to replace it for an additional $4k. When I said no, they backed off and recommended a CO alarm (which we already have). It felt like I was being heavily taken advantage of because I was in a dire situation. The installation went fine, but my experience of being pressured and hard sold to during the process made it feel like I was being milked for every penny they could get out of me. Take this as a precaution to check your HVAC AC/furnace/heat pump regularly, and get multiple quotes before deciding on work. If you go with this company, they will seemingly do an effective job, but they will try their best to get as much money out of you as possible.

I had installed a new HVAC fan motor from recommendations from a tech at Grainger after sending…read morepics and diagrams so he could be sure to recommend the right one. After I installed it it wasn't putting out the capacity the original motor did so I called another tech at GraingerI and after seeing pics and diagrams he told me to rewire it and it then stopped working. I then called an electrician who said i should call the manufacturer of the original fan motor (International Environmental Corps) and I was advised by Jose there to get the same exact motor from Grainger which they had in stock. After a week of phone calls to many HVAC companies we finally got a guy from Peak Heating and Air. On inspection Peter said Grainger gave us the wrong fan motor and we were lucky it didn't start a fire as it's capacity was higher than needed (220 instead of 110v even though both motors were 1/4HP) so it's a good thing after rewiring it it stopped working. The new motor from IEC was installed by Pete with no problems. He only charged us half the price ($160) because I had everything he needed and all he had to do was take out the motor I had installed from Grainger and put in the new one from IEC (purchased at Grainger) and wire it up. It's now working fine. So, anyone who needs an HVAC guy I highly recommend Peak Heating and Cooling in Evanston, Chicago.

The communication with Peak was fast and friendly throughout the entire process. The technicians had the A/C back up and running in about half an hour. I was expecting a moderately expensive repair, but the cost turned out to be quite reasonable. I also got a detailed receipt and even helpful post-service recommendations on my aging unit. Most importantly, the A/C works again. I would definitely use Peak again.
