THIS FACILITY THREW MY STUFF IN THE GARBAGE WITHOUT EVER NOTIFYING ME. My bill was paid, and apparently there was a miscommunication with the manager on the amount of units I was renting (they claim just one, when we had discussed two) but NO ONE ever reached out to me, despite them reaching out about other issues. Long version- I rented a small storage unit and quickly realized I needed another. I spoke to the manager and got it taken care of. Apparently when this happens, you have to transfer your goods from one unit to another as SafeGuard does not allow 2 units at once to be rented (which i found out yesterday via disturbing details of my items being thrown in the garbage). I was never told to transfer my items; I live a hop and a skip down the road and surely would have been there to retrieve my items that were "necessary to transfer". Fast forward several months, I go to the smaller of the two units I rented and it's "available for rent". Everything is gone- they said they threw it all away. Apparently there was a miscommunication with the manager and he believed I was simply moving my stuff to the other unit instead of renting both. Fine. But no one ever reached out to me about it. No emails. No calls. No texts. No letters. Meanwhile, I was two-days late paying on the unit last month and got a call each day I was late. They clearly had my correct information for that, but not before THROWING MY THINGS AWAY. They offered me a pitiful 2 months off my storage unit for the inconvenience. Less than $500 for a laptop, my entire summer wardrobe, cameras, camera lenses and supplies as I have a photography company, not to mention items of sentimental value that cannot be replaced!!! I find it suspicious that the boxes were simply thrown away- typically storage that is abandoned in their eyes would be auctioned- this was just thrown in the garbage? This has been a horrible experience and I am weighing my options on how to proceed. read more

I made a reservation online for a unit. I tried to stop by 4-5 times to pick up keys and finish up the paperwork, and every single time there was no one there and a sign saying "be back in 30 minutes." It took me over a week to get my keys, meaning I paid for an empty unit for over a week. However, Hector at the counter was really nice and helpful. I highly recommend working with him. He was super helpful and patient in asking all of my questions while seamlessly dealing with other guests as well. The actual facility is very clean and well lit, and the units are reasonably priced and a good size. It seems safe, too! read more

Truly the best experience I've ever had with a storage facility. If I ran a business such as this, this is how I would pray it runs. Carlos was amazingly helpful when I signed up and moved in, and everyone was just as good in the two years that I stored there. The facility is clean, they have supplies, they assist you with questions and concerns in a timely manner. I cannot recommend this location, Ridgewood Queens, enough. This place sucks. ~$116 for a 5x8x10 unit They will give you an electronic key card to access the space. The key card will never work. Excuses; their security system always has glitches. I've used this facility for 4 months and have never been able to access the space without waiting in line at the office for someone to reset the system. You can only access the units during their business hours. Inconvenient and creates a bottle neck of customers. So you are basically paying a premium for rare access to your storage unit and keys that don't work. Don't be a sucker like me read more

So I reserved a unit online and thought I read the fine print well enough but of course mistakes were made and I missed the part about a stair case only access. Which in my case was absolutely unacceptable. Thankfully Luby immediately gauged my personality and pointed the error out to me. Then proceeded to seamlessly transfer my account over to a much more practical choice. She was amazingly sweet about everything and actually took the time to run me through all the fine print of the lease (which from my experience is very rare). He was very good and giving us all the information we needed along with a great price. If anyone is looking for a unit and decide to come here ask for Carlos you wont regret it. Ps. Carlos is great! The online reservation was really easy and the staff followed up quickly over the phone to confirm details. He was super friendly and went out of his way to chose me a storage unit on the same floor as my boyfriend's unit... which will really convenient when moving things out at the same time! The only reason I have 4 instead of 5 is that I was unclear about the short flight of steps required to access my "mezzanine" storage unit... that might be my lack of familiarity with storage lingo, but it certainly made my movers grumble a bit. read more

Bought a storage unit at auction and every bag I went through was cut open with a knife and flipped upside down so you couldn't see at the auction. They took everything that would've been valuable and left me with nothing. I will never go back there and never store anything at any safeguard self storage anywhere. read more

Its a storage facility. I can say that its very clean, and it has decent storage capacity. However their pricing is tricky and honestly needs to be looked at. They have this whole bait and switch concept where you pay one set price and then after a few months they send you a notification that the rates have gone up 10 bucks or more per month. Since we have had our things here, I have received 4-5 letters already regarding price changes. Im a bit confused because we signed a contract, so I don't get why they keep upping the price. The elevators are extremely slow, so if you have no patience, then getting a unit here is not the best thing. They offer you a key card at a price, which to me makes no sense, if you have unit, you should be giving the key card to the elevator. Instead, they sell you a key card and tell you that its better than having to punch in some long code. Again, another way to charge you money. The moving materials arent too expensive, so that's the good thing. However the accessibility is a bit eh.... Their hours aren't long and sometimes you have to carefully plan things out with the items in your unit or you risk arriving at a shut gate. We chose this place because it was cheaper than their competitors at the time. But now, it looks like the competitors might be cheaper at this point. Just a few blocks away there is a cube storage. Its all about your taste in things. I just wish they stop changing the rates on their loyal customers. read more

Been a customer for years. Great prices though not conveniently located and only has 1 real parking space to load in and out. Overall the staff is helpful and friendly, but worth noting that recently the husky older blonde white woman running the place on Labor Day was so rude, she'll drive the place in to the ground if she is to be regular fixture of the experience. read more

I pay $60/month, about, for the smallest storage unit they offer. It's secure, the people are nice and helpful. Yeah, the elevators suck and no access after hours is kind of a pain sometimes. But how often does one need to access a storage unit? It's pretty reasonable and serves its purpose. read more

Safeguard Self Storage in ridgewood is the best storage unit I've delt with thus far. Carlos is extremely helpful, professional, and friendly; he was able to answer all my questions I had with no issues. I can't imagine working with another safeguard without both Carlos and Mariana. In a last minute emergency, these guys were very helpful and accommodating in helping me select the right size space and work with my schedule to make sure I had what I needed! I would highly recommend them, especially Carlos the manager. He went above and beyond to help make sure I moved quickly so could get everything in my unit by the time the facility closed. Despite a last minute surprise move-out, a thunderstorm during the move, and calling only two days prior to showing up, Carlos made this a seamless transition. The facilities of this storage unit are adequate enough, no real complaints concerning that. The hours are inconvenient and illogical. What really irks me about this place though is their bait and switch scheme for pricing. After only 6 months, I've been informed that my unit will be going up 15%! When pressed as to why the increase would be happening (as no improvements of any kind have gone on), I got a silly and flimsy answer about how the cost of utilities has gone up. This is total nonsense. I live 3 blocks from the facility, and no increase has happened that could account for a 15% rise in rent. It's a shameless money grab--they wait 6 months until you are settled in, and then raise the rent, hoping that you will just take it laying down and not want to bother moving (your now full unit). I've read articles online about how this works--units such as mine, up a flight of stairs and further from an entrance, are targeted for higher increases in rent as they think the increased inconvenience of moving out will persuade you to stay. I went in today to get a transfer of ownership for my company's unit and it was such a breeze! MaryAnna , who processed the transfer was super friendly and efficient. She even called around to a few other Safeguard locations for me as we are considering moving to a bigger unit. horrible place would not recommend this to anyone i payed a severe amount of money for a damn small storage i had to do it because i didn't know of any storage's around the area so i went with my last choice with this. not to mention when i didn't need the storage no more they charge me $300 for cancellation fee. the white lady was really nasty and not explainable if i could rate this place a 0 i would.! read more
