We are consistently impressed and in love with this place. From the chilled ceviche plates, to the fresh, tender seafood dishes, this is the place to make your own. Individually decorated rooms and a lovely owner/hostess create the ultimate neighborhood dining experience. Diana is an amazing human who is not only a young, successful, female business owner, but she is truly creative, warm and interested in spreading goodness. Get your ass here, soon. Thank me later

Really cool, hip spot in Caldwell for good Peruvian food. Our server knew exactly what to recommend as well when we asked about the specials, entrees, and appetizers. We had ceviche as a appetizer as well as some Maduros and they were quite tasty. I really enjoyed my main entree which was a Mofongo saltado which adds a nice Dominican fusion/flair to it. For dessert I went with the flan and espresso and I feel like you can't go wrong with that choice. My friends had the tres leches and they mentioned it was super tasty too. Not too many seats in the restaurant so make sure to call ahead and make a reservation.

A very romantic environment. The 2nd floor placement gives it a Speakeasy aesthetic which makes it great for date nights. If you are a bit shy about trying something new, the staff and owner are very friendly with helping you pick out something you like. It's now my 5th time here in the past 3 months and I've loved every dish had. My number one tip is to ask about their specials. It's on a board and constantly hanging which gives a good variety and keeps the experience from becoming stale. I highly recommend giving this place a try. It's smaller so safest bet for me has been calling and making a sameday reservation rather than walking in.

After a successful escape room with the family and a good family friend, we tried authentic Peruvian cuisine at Sabor Peru to celebrate. The entrance is deceiving, as you head upstairs to the top floor, you are welcomed by a warm, inviting, home-like feel atmosphere which surprisingly fits several tables for diners. Quaintly decorated with various cultural artifacts and warm colors. The staff was also very friendly and hospitable. We tried the Calamar, assorted appetizer platter (Camarones Coco, Papa Rellena, and Huancaina), Churrasco, Mar y Tiera, Chicken Soup, A La Plancha, and Arroz Con Marisco. Everything wad delicious!

This place is a must-try in Caldwell. The interior is colorful and the layout reminds me of being in someone's apartment with the various rooms- definitely a homey feeling. To start we tried the beef empanadas, which were crispy and flavorful, and the calamari which tasted fresh and was served with 2 dipping sauces. The green sauce was our favorite- it was so good, we asked for extra for our calamari plus some to sprinkle on our entrees (we're sauce people, what can we say?). For my entree I got the tallarines verde with steak. I asked for my steak well-done (medical reasons) and it was cooked perfectly- well but not too overdone, not too mention the portion was huge. The pesto pasta was creamy and bright. Delicious food, great service and atmosphere- not to mention BYO- in a sea of restaurants on Bloomfield Ave, Sabor Peru is definitely worth a stop.

This restaurant is very easy to miss if you do not know about it. When you first enter it's as if you're entering someone's home as it was an apartment turned into a restaurant. Each room has a couple of tables varying in sizes for the different party sizes. It's a very picturesque spot and the ambiance is very comforting. I went with a party of 7 and we had a number of their Lima special along with the polla a lo pobre. The place is also byo so you can enjoy with your own choice of drink. I highly recommend if you're in the area. The prices are also affordable!

The only thing this place has going for this their ambiance. It's very cute. And if I could give them no stars I would! The food has little to no flavor and we had to ask for salt several times; it took over 20 minutes for salt. I asked for an extra fork and that fork never came. After waiting for over 25 minutes, I grabbed a fork from a neighboring table or I would have never been able to eat my food. We ordered huancaina and the potatoes were microwaved for too long and the sauce was poured over them and it was thinned out. The Tacu tacu was severed with bistec encebollado instead of plain like it was listed in the menu. If you are going to serve food a certain way, it's must be listed in the menu. Eggs for bistec a lo pobre were black from being fried in the same pan or area as the steak. They had to send back. All food needs salt and more flavor. Subpar to say the least. Bring your own salt packets if you still want to try this place. Our server was Julia. Very rude once issues were brought up to her. Slammed everything on the table afterward. Needs retraining or a new job.

I would have never found this place. Thanks for the referral. Tucked away on the second floor it feels like you're at a friends home. The staff is excellent and the music sets the mood. We needed a night out and were pleasantly surprised. The menu has a great selection as I was able to find several items that suited my food allergies. Our server was mindful and attentive. Such a great value for the quality. We are so coming back. I have invited my friends and family to check it out. As for parking, we found street parking at a meter. BYOB- There is a liquor store next door with a large selection. The only negative that I find about this place are the stairs. I didn't see an elevator so I do not know if it is handicapped accessible. If you have difficulties with stairs - this may not be an option.

Our new favorite Peruvian restaurant! They have plenty of vegan/vegetarian options what is a plus for us since half of my family is vegetarian. I love their ceviche and my kids enjoyed the tres leches. We have been here a couple of times and the only thing I wasn't crazy about was the yucca a la huancaina. Excellent ceviche!

Chicken empanadas and bowl seafood soup

Dinned in for lunch on a weekday. Very quiet spot, makes it feel comfortable and home-y. Server was very attentive even though there were only two other guests. I ordered the seafood soup and two chicken empanadas. Sadly the empanadas were lacking in flavor and texture in the filling. The breading was so perfect though, so crispy, it was just the inside that was lacking and the inside is everything. The soup had a good mixture of flavor between the seafood broth and herbs. They were dancing together to make a harmonious taste. The seafood in the soup though was chewy and I'm sure it was bc it's sitting in hot broth just cooking. Could have been executed better but it still tasted good.

Skirt steak with seafood. Don't remember the name but it was recommended to me. Absolutely delicious

It's a very casual, cafeteria-style spot with a semi-open kitchen, but don't let the simplicity fool you -- the food is incredible and the staff here is friendly and patient. The highlight of the experience is the small buffet that features a variety of freshly-made Latin cuisine -- including pulled pork, chicken and beef stews, and other traditional Latin entrees and sides. You can build your own plate by selecting one or more entrees and sides - which are priced accordingly. As a 'gringo' who wasn't entirely sure what everything was, I really appreciated them taking the extra time to explain all the different options and give me their honest recommendations. The counterstaff is bilingual and were pretty patient with my elementary school level Spanish vocabulary and grammar. I ended up going with the pulled pork platter with two sides ($7) and it was terrific -- the perfectly seasoned and tender pork, black beans and rice, and macaroni salad were delicious and very filling. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and the portions are very generous for the price. If you're looking for authentic, home-style Latino food in a laid-back setting, this is the spot! PRO TIP #1: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home to enjoy with your meal. Sazon Latino is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol. PRO TIP #2: Sazon Latino offers free off-street parking in a small lot behind the restaurant and there's plenty of free on-street parking on Main Street.

To give you a sense of the ambiance: the Spanish-speaking cashier/cook was reading a book when I walked in, and the television on the wall was blaring a Spanish-language TV show. I was one of only two customers when I went for a Saturday lunch around 1p. The other customer was also conversing in Spanish with the front of house. I appreciated that a bottled green habanero sauce was at my table, along with Cholula. It helps add to the authenticity. All that said, maybe don't come here for the tex-mex. If I came back I'd try one of the five different kinds of tacos they offered.

The parking lot was packed so I expected there to be a wait but was pleasantly surprised when our party of 5 (plus a baby!) was seated right away. The place is lively and a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. There's a stage/dance floor in the middle so I can imagine it can turn kind of clubby later in the night. Interestingly, the menus are all tablets and while really cool at first, it got annoying when a couple of our menus started to glitch. High tech but also leaves more room for failure. The service was friendly though and decently quick. We ordered a few appetizers and they came out in a reasonable amount of time. We got a sampler, croquettas, and a tamal. Everything tasted great so I had high hopes for our entrees. I went with the Mother's Day Special Relleno (stuffed) Salmon. It was a little overcooked but still really tasty. I believe it was stuffed with some crab meat and cheese. I also really liked the sauce that covered it. My dad got oxtail and it was seasoned very well but the oxtail pieces were cooked inconsistently. Some were soft and came off the bone very easily while others were tough to the point I had to use my hands to gnaw the meat off the bone. Everyone else's dishes were pretty good too. All in all La Havana 59 seems like a solid Cuban spot. I'd come back.
