After reading the buzzworthy review from Rancho Cucamonga Foodies contributor Robert Catuara, Robin and I knew we had to experience Sabor A Oaxaca for ourselves--and we're glad we did. We kicked things off with the Guacamole, and this was no ordinary starter. Creamy avocado blended with fresh lime and cilantro, crowned with crunchy roasted pumpkin seeds for texture and depth. We added the chicharrones, which arrived light, airy, and perfectly crisp--ideal for scooping and savoring every bite. For my main, I went all in with the Mole Sampler, a true celebration of Oaxacan culinary artistry. Served with shredded chicken, rice, and warm tortillas (perfect for dipping), the sampler let me explore three distinct and beautifully crafted moles: Mole Negro Deep, complex, and slightly bitter-sweet, this is the king of moles for a reason. Smoky, earthy, and rich, with layers of dried chiles, spices, nuts, seeds, and just a whisper of chocolate. Bold, mysterious, and unforgettable. Mole Coloradito Warmer and more approachable, with a gentle sweetness and mild spice. Brighter than mole negro and wonderfully balanced--comforting without being heavy and incredibly smooth. Mole Almendrado Silky, nutty, and luxurious. Almonds take center stage here, adding body and elegance. Subtly sweet and less spicy, this mole felt refined and indulgent. Robin opted for the Cochinita Pibil, Yucatán-style slow-cooked pork loin in achiote sauce, served with habanero red onions. The pork was fall-apart tender, richly flavored, and swimming in savory drippings at the bottom of the bowl--pure comfort with a bold, citrusy kick. We closed out on a high note with the Plátanos Fritos--fried plantains drizzled with condensed milk. Crispy, sweet, and utterly addictive. A simple dessert done exceptionally well. The service was friendly and attentive from start to finish, with staff happy to answer questions and offer recommendations without ever feeling rushed. The restaurant itself was clean, bright, and inviting, creating a comfortable atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy the meal. From the depth of the moles to the tenderness of the pork and that sweet final bite of plantains, Sabor A Oaxaca delivered a memorable meal that celebrates regional Mexican cuisine with care and authenticity. I've been eyeing this place since i moved to Ontario but every time i crave it or remember about it, its closed lol. I was able to stop on Saturday after going shopping and realize it was right next to Soup N Fresh. Honestly, if you don't want to wait the super long line at soup n fresh, this is definitely the place you want to go to and won't have to wait long! I went in with a mission, and that was to try their mole. I'm from LA so it's been a struggle to find good mole in the IE. They have a variety of moles here i believe 3 or 4 types. If you want to try them all they have a flight for an appetizer to try them all. I went with Negro as it's the most authentic and it did not disappoint. Super rich and not sweet or spicy; had a good balanced flavor. My husband wanted to try their Tlayuda so we got it as an appetizer and had their vegetarian one. It was so good and had a great crisp. It's like a Smokey quesadilla that's more crunchy and not really cheesy. I believe it's usually roasted on a comal to give it that nice burnt/smokey taste. We got the enmoladas and Torta de milanesa. The enmoladas were good and not perfectly filling for me. I will say the star for me was the Torta though. It was honestly so good. The bread was buttery and the chicken was perfectly breaded, my only complain it that i wish it hadn't been cut up inside and just left whole because it was breaking apart. I'm assuming i was enjoying it too much because the table next to me asked what it was lol Only downside for me is that their cafe de la olla was lukewarm, needs to be hotter. The Jamaica was good though. The servers would great and super attentive, we got a free chocoflan for their cinco de mayo special, we took it home and it was pretty good too! We got there on a Friday night at 6:45 PM and we were the only ones there. We ordered the queso fundido which was VERY good. We then ordered an appetizer plate and I ordered a chicken tortilla soup. The appetizer plate came with Carne Asada that looked like beef jerky. It was smoky, not bad but odd. The pork Al pastor was delicious, the cucumbers, were soggy (old). Everything else was mediocre. The chicken tortilla soup was too smoky and lukewarm, the smoky chipotle flavor over powered the entire soup. I hope they make it but it's not a place I would go to again. read more

Every time I come here, I'm relieved, but also very surprised, that the restaurant isn't packed. The food is absolutely delicious. This place does not offer real authentic Oaxacan Food. The name of the restaurant should be a clue. Taste of Oaxaca. Maybe because I have had better perhaps,but if they don't offer Oaxacan Horchata then you know it's not real Oaxacan food. I should know I am Oaxacan! The derive was mid at best. I had to come up with a plan B on the whim on Father's Day in 2021. This place came up as a suggestion, and decided to drive to it. The restaurant is inside a busy plaza (due to a nonsense s&s place). The restaurant reserves the front parking spots for their clients. We were a party of 6. When we arrived at the place, someone made a comment of how simple the outside looked. Well, have you heard of "Don't judge the book by its cover"? That applied to this hidden gem!!! We walked in, and everyone was wowed by the beautiful and colorful decor. We were greeted and seated. The servers were very friendly. Complimentary chips and salsa were brought out. Our drinks order was taken right away, followed by appetizer recommendations. That day we were pleased by our drinks, appetizers and entrees. Everything was delicious!! Sooo much that we have come back whenever we can, and our daughters come on their own from Whittier. We recently learned they have happy hour, so my daughters and I came to eat this past Saturday. We ordered the cantaritos, nachos, pork belly tacos, quesadilla, rajas dip and the delicious soup. Everything is always so delicious! This is authentic Mexican food. Under New Ownership! I didn't know that this place had a name change too. Used to be Sabor a Mi. I did visit when it was the prior owners and name and I thought the food was pretty good. I visited recently and was not very happy with the food . Ordered a Chile Relleno, it was stuffed with Chicken, it was dry, not flavorful and no cheese whatsoever. What was odd to be is that I could barely taste the chile itself. The black beans were ok. The restaurant was not busy at all, at one point my table was the only one there. It was empty! The spot has a great bar and esthetically beautiful decor with attentive servers and friendly staff. Stopped by on a whim. Me and my girfriend are trying to support more Hispanic businesses. We are so happy we did! The restaurant is so pretty. The food was delicious! We ordered the Crema de Chapulines. I never had chapulines and wanted to try. It was pretty good! We also had the mole sampler. I wish I could tell you which was which, but the waitress didn't mention anything and we were too busy hoarding it down to ask. But my favorite was the orangey mole. My friend and I had an absolutely wonderful dining experience tonight at Sabor a Oaxaca. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was excellent. The staff were genuinely warm, welcoming, and attentive. We both really loved everything we had (enchiladas and the mole sampler). They were really well prepared, full of flavor, and delightfully balanced. We're both looking forward to working through their menu and trying everything. It was our first time at this restaurant. The mole is so delicious and so are the tlayudas. Many of their dishes are tasty. Some of my family members weren't too happy but overall the quality of the food was great. The service was slow but that's because they only have two waitresses for the entire restaurant. 9 t is definitely not the waitresses fault. They were super sweet and helpful and worked very hard. I really was fond of them very quickly. The restaurant itself is small but very cute. They didn't have Mariachi today but we were told they do twice a month or so. Came for breakfast with my mom over the weekend. It was delicious! Don't know a lot of places that serve traditional Oaxacan breakfast.
