Mole sampler
Robert N.

After reading the buzzworthy review from Rancho Cucamonga Foodies contributor Robert Catuara, Robin and I knew we had to experience Sabor A Oaxaca for ourselves--and we're glad we did. We kicked things off with the Guacamole, and this was no ordinary starter. Creamy avocado blended with fresh lime and cilantro, crowned with crunchy roasted pumpkin seeds for texture and depth. We added the chicharrones, which arrived light, airy, and perfectly crisp--ideal for scooping and savoring every bite. For my main, I went all in with the Mole Sampler, a true celebration of Oaxacan culinary artistry. Served with shredded chicken, rice, and warm tortillas (perfect for dipping), the sampler let me explore three distinct and beautifully crafted moles: Mole Negro Deep, complex, and slightly bitter-sweet, this is the king of moles for a reason. Smoky, earthy, and rich, with layers of dried chiles, spices, nuts, seeds, and just a whisper of chocolate. Bold, mysterious, and unforgettable. Mole Coloradito Warmer and more approachable, with a gentle sweetness and mild spice. Brighter than mole negro and wonderfully balanced--comforting without being heavy and incredibly smooth. Mole Almendrado Silky, nutty, and luxurious. Almonds take center stage here, adding body and elegance. Subtly sweet and less spicy, this mole felt refined and indulgent. Robin opted for the Cochinita Pibil, Yucatán-style slow-cooked pork loin in achiote sauce, served with habanero red onions. The pork was fall-apart tender, richly flavored, and swimming in savory drippings at the bottom of the bowl--pure comfort with a bold, citrusy kick. We closed out on a high note with the Plátanos Fritos--fried plantains drizzled with condensed milk. Crispy, sweet, and utterly addictive. A simple dessert done exceptionally well. The service was friendly and attentive from start to finish, with staff happy to answer questions and offer recommendations without ever feeling rushed. The restaurant itself was clean, bright, and inviting, creating a comfortable atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy the meal. From the depth of the moles to the tenderness of the pork and that sweet final bite of plantains, Sabor A Oaxaca delivered a memorable meal that celebrates regional Mexican cuisine with care and authenticity. We're already looking forward to a return visit.

Absolutely amazing food. I had the mole sampler and it was delicious. My wife had bean soup and we shared these little cheese stuffed and fried bananas those were wonderful. The staff is so kind and attentive. Beautiful decor.

Didn't expect much at first but WOW! Super clean, friendly service, and the food they're amazing! Carve asada steak was soft and chicken fajita was soft - was a little upset on the shrimp. (Way to small) Salsa was delicious!

I had to come up with a plan B on the whim on Father's Day in 2021. This place came up as a suggestion, and decided to drive to it. The restaurant is inside a busy plaza (due to a nonsense s&s place). The restaurant reserves the front parking spots for their clients. We were a party of 6. When we arrived at the place, someone made a comment of how simple the outside looked. Well, have you heard of "Don't judge the book by its cover"? That applied to this hidden gem!!! We walked in, and everyone was wowed by the beautiful and colorful decor. We were greeted and seated. The servers were very friendly. Complimentary chips and salsa were brought out. Our drinks order was taken right away, followed by appetizer recommendations. That day we were pleased by our drinks, appetizers and entrees. Everything was delicious!! Sooo much that we have come back whenever we can, and our daughters come on their own from Whittier. We recently learned they have happy hour, so my daughters and I came to eat this past Saturday. We ordered the cantaritos, nachos, pork belly tacos, quesadilla, rajas dip and the delicious soup. Everything is always so delicious! This is authentic Mexican food. Sabor a mi is a must try restaurant!! Dare to open the book and read it - wink wink

Amazing food and service! We arrived soon after opening and the hostess was welcoming and sat us down right away. She was super knowledgeable about the menu and everything. The food we got was delicious we will definitely be coming back! The restaurant itself is beautiful! My husband and I were commenting on the pieces of art on the wall throughout our meal.

Quick stop for dinner, my husband and I had the Mole Sampler, Traditional Tlayuda, Capirotada bites and Tamarindo Margarita, food did not disappoint! Everything was delicious and the two servers were attentive, friendly and on point. Will come again to try Guava cocktail. We enjoyed every bit! Thank you.

I ordered a few platters including the taco and the loaded nachos. The price is fairly generous, probably closer to what you might get at a takeout than a traditional sit down restaurant. There's actually a lot of seating available whether inside or outside. The staff was all pretty nice and welcoming as well. If I asked for anything like extra plates or utensils, they usually greeted me with a smile. As for the cuisine, it was okay. I think it is suited for a particular taste. Most of the meat we ordered was well done. Well done but not overly dry. More like a crunchy texture. That was true of the asada, carnita, and chicken. If you are used to your meat a little bit more rare or juicy, then this style may not be for you. I thought it was fine but it just depends on your taste buds. I really wanted to give the place 4-stars or even 5. The staff was good, food was fine, and prices all affordable but the place had one problem. Initially, I wanted to eat outside and enjoy some summer breeze with my family. However, there were too many flies attracted to our meal. I was not sure whether it was due to this restaurant or its neighbors. Unfortunately, the flies followed us inside during our meal as well. It may be a non-issue in the colder months but it was a noticeable nuisance during our meal.

The way it was going to be prepared was with spring mix, which I don't prefer. I asked for a spicy skinny margarita, and they were able to accommodate me for that as well! Yummy! The reason for the four stars is because the parking lot is extremely dark and sketchy looking. Unfortunately, I don't feel safe outside there. I feel like it could easily be fixed with an investment in better lighting outdoors.

The food was mediocre but preferred the "on the spot" chef selection where we could order, chilaquiles, fresh tacos, omelets, and quesadillas. The menudo seemed as if it were sitting in the warmer so long it created a dry, thick layer at the top from sitting there for who knows how long. The churros were hard, unsweetened fruits, and dry macaroni salad. The tacos, quesadillas, and chef made eggs were tasteful. The waitress was very attentive and constantly changing out of dishes. Perhaps this day was a fluke as the hostess mentioned they are usually crowded but it was pretty empty when we arrive at 12:30. The do have a pretty large TV in the room next to the bar area and a stage under. Flyers were noted stating Banda on Saturday nights. Overall, the of lack of customers may have resulted in lack of turn around with their buffet...we may try it again soon but overall 3 stars for the service and the cooked food items.
