Food was absolutely incredible. I was shocked out how delicious everything was. I ordered a combo plate with a verde chicken enchilada and hard shell chicken taco. Phenomenal! Probably one of the best enchiladas I've had in a long time. My husband got the torta and said everything from the chicken to the beans was really great. The service was just okay. The cashier seemed to be irritated but those days happen. Either way, we can't wait to come back and eat! read more

My experience here was not good. The Cashier appeared a bit surprised by my visit, but tried hard to not appear that way. She was helpful, but it seemed forced. She was not rude at all, just very nonchalant. I wasn't turned off by her demeanor, rather wanting to end her engagement with me quickly, in case it was just "one of those days.". Now, under normal circumstances, when I'm the only one in line I'll probably take about a minute or two to make my selection, you know, putting a little thought into it. However, because it felt a little uncomfortable, I ordered almost immediately, two soft tacos. The restaurant was clean, but had a weird smell. Mind you, as I waited for my food, I strolled to the other side of the restaurant to see if it would get better, and it didn't. I contemplated canceling my order, letting them keep the money, and leaving, but it appeared as if no one else was bothered, so I sucked it up to my sensitive nose. My food was indeed a reflection of my visit that day. From the picture, perhaps needless to say, one taco was sitting on top of the other, so I had to pull them apart. The tortillas were extremely soggy. Both meat items were overcooked, and the presentation was poor. For Me, the visit was all wrong. The food was a waste for me. I was disappointed and told myself I would never return, but, this is again one of those scenarios where I don't want to believe that they put out their best that day. , So, we shall see if I give myself an opportunity to update this review. read more

I ordered a garden salad from El Ranchero, something I've purchased there before, but didn't realize until I got back to work that I was charged for a grilled chicken salad. Since I'm vegetarian and don't eat meat, I returned to have it corrected. They told me they fixed it, but didn't adjust the price difference. When I got back to work, I noticed they had simply picked the chicken out instead of remaking the salad, and there were still pieces of chicken left inside. This felt very unprofessional and careless. Fortunately , I won't be returning. read more

I was winding up my SoCal trip, running errands for my girl. I realized I was alone and could eat whatever I wanted. When I lived in Maui there was a Mexican restaurant near my home that served shrimp ranchero. I loved it so much, but when I moved to Oahu shrimp ranchero was not available anywhere. I've only ever seen it again in San Diego. So I did what any self respecting hungry person would do - I Yelped it. El Ranchero came up, about 10 minutes from where I was, with a ranchero bowl right there on the menu. I booked it over and put my order in lickety split. And boy was it worth it. The shrimp ranchero was delicious, served over some rice and refried beans and topped with pico and guac and a sour cream drizzle. They had a salsa bar and I got some salsa, but honestly the flavors of this bowl are so completely balanced and spot on it doesn't need anything additional. The shrimp was tender and flavorful and the rice fluffy. The bowl itself was sizable and I was quite full when all was said and done. You could have chosen any meat like asada or chicken or whatever else they had, but I was here for the shrimp and they did disappoint. Everything was SO good I was a bit sad I hadn't come earlier in my trip. This restaurant is an order at the counter and sit down type. It's in a kind of mall so there is tons of free parking, some of it right in front. The staff were very nice. I thought I took a pic but I guess I just wolfed that shrimp down instead! I would definitely come back here. I'm not sure I would try anything else because my shrimp ranchero bowl was SO GOOD. But you can! And you should! read more

Randomly stopped into this restaurant for breakfast. The breakfast burrito with chorizo was deliciously filling. The huevos rancheros were filling and flavorful too! Oh the salsa bar very tasty. I've been coming here for years. Beans are always great! But sometimes the fried tacos were not the best due to dry meat. Unfortunately I will not be returning. I went in today to buy a couple of small containers of salsa. I hardly needed much. There was only an option for an 8oz. Ok, no problem. Maybe I could buy a bag of tortilla chips to be able to serve myself a couple of 1oz containers since I don't need an entire 8 oz container. The cashier said no, not possible. It's ridiculous to think you guys couldn't figure out a price for smaller containers, or even worse, understand that maybe losing two oz of salsa would save you from losing a customer who visits often. read more

The prices have gradually increased from 10 to 15 dollars, and the portions have shrunk as well, so we're left with smaller portions for higher prices. I used to come to this place once every week or so, but recently the amount of food is abysmal and the prices continue to grow. A 50% price increase over 3 years is fine, but also reducing portions is not. The food itself is pretty ok but there's plenty of ok mexican places nearby so I will simply abstain and no longer come here. read more

Ontario seems to be chock full of random standalone Mexican joints. El Ranchero just happened to be right next to our hotel, so we stopped by for convenience's sake. Was really hungry on this particular trip and I saw carne asada/al pastor/shrimp fries on the menu, so that was an easy decision! Fries were pretty good. I could've done with some crispier fries, but the meat definitely hit the spot. An inspired choice was made here. Service was fine, no complaints here. My coworkers and I came in for taco Tuesday. Surprisingly, taco Tuesday now seems pretty rare so this was one of the few spots in the area offering it. We came in around lunch hour and it was pretty crowded but service was still pretty fast. The taco Tuesday deal is amazing! It's $1.80 per taco! The tacos are the size of a standard street taco. They come with your choice of meat, onion, cilantro, and their hot sauce. I got two of the carne asada and two of the Al pastor. The Al pastor was juicy and super flavorful. I can't say the same for the carne asada which was pretty dry. Their hot sauce is also pretty good. And actually pretty spicy! Overall, a decent choice. I think I'd have to try more tacos to offer a more fair assessment. For the price point, it is truly unbeatable. read more

I am on a tour of RC's taco shops, in search of the best overall location. Being from San Diego, I know good taco shops, so there's pretty big shoes to fill. I got one of my go-to dishes, chicken sopes with rice & beans. That was a majorly good idea. The plate was huge, and actually was enough for 2 meals, even though I had been moving heavy boxes all morning. It was a little on the pricey side, but you really get what you pay for. I got a horchata for my friend, and they shared with me (not huge into horchata, I like jamaica better). Still, that horchata was GOOD. The atmosphere was pretty standard for taco shops, but maybe a little more relaxed than some. The service was a little gruff, but I don't expect anything more than great food at a taco shop, since that's the SD way. Still, the sope shells were amazing. The rice and beans were good. The salsa bar left a little to be desired, and the chips they served were good but a tad stale. However, this location is my new favorite for sopes. I'll definitely be back. read more

The chicken, asada and al pastor taco were on point. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. They offer three different salsas and they were good as well. The chile verde burrito had good flavor but pork was tough, think that was the only down fall. Ambiance was nice, they have tv's showing games and some good music. read more
