I've been to a few Kalaveras locations, and honestly, I'm just not a fan. The food and drinks have never really impressed me, so I usually only go if I'm invited for a special event. This time, it was a family get-together for Sunday brunch. There's plenty of parking in a private lot, which is definitely a plus. We went for the Sunday buffet brunch, which is $29.99 per person, and $44.99 if you add bottomless mimosas. And of course... you know I had to go the brunch and bottomless mimosas route. The brunch setup included an omelette station, chilaquiles station, and taco station. The buffet itself had a mix of traditional breakfast items like French toast, pancakes, and bacon, along with Mexican dishes like tamales, ceviche, and enchiladas... plus a few random non-Mexican items like pasta. I'm personally not a big fan of buffets. They can feel a little sketchy with so many people handling the same utensils, serving themselves, etc. Brunch runs until 3pm, and it seems like that's really what people come for. During brunch hours, the place was packed. But right at 3pm, it completely cleared out. It was pretty much just our party of 15 and a few other people left. Service was decent. I came for the $1.99 Taco Tuesday deal, and it was pretty good! The size of the tacos is pretty decent and they had a variety of meat and veggie options. I got the asada and birria tacos, and both were really good. They also set up a condiments bar for you to add your own salsa and toppings if you'd like. The only bad thing is that they don't offer complimentary chips and salsa for this deal, which I guess makes sense. Not only was the food prepared fast, but the presentation was beautiful! I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the potato taquitos. They were perfectly fried and topped with all the fixings. I also had the Guavarita, which was perfectly made and refreshing. I sampled the mole enchiladas that my cousin ordered and loved the taste! The sauce was rich and had a little kick to it. My son enjoyed his seafood enchiladas and the side of rice and beans. The Mexican rice was perfectly cooked and delicious. Customer service here was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I forgot her name, but she was great I got my picky kid to eat birria tacos and he really enjoyed them which is a win in its own. I got a margarita and my husband got a beer. I went to Kalaveras today for my cousin's birthday lunch and we had a private area for the event. I can't speak on any of the planning because I wasn't part of that but I can speak on the food and service! This was my first time at Kalaveras and I was definitely not disappointed. We had a fixed menu for one entree and an appetizer but the entree was more than enough. The birria tacos were delicious. They were so juicy and had a good amount of meat that wasn't dry at all. The consommé was so flavorful and the chili oil took it to the next level. Just insanely good. The red onions are slightly pickled and adds another dimension to the flavor profile which I loved. I initially wasn't going to get a drink but my cousin ordered the Jarrito Loko and it was so refreshing and balanced. The chamoy tajin rim paired with watermelon is a perfect combo, always. And we can't forget about the watermelon slice and tamarind candy!! I wish I caught the name of our server but he was the only one servicing our large party and he did AMAZING. He had help with running the food and drinks out, but in terms of servicing us and handling our orders, he was so kind and patient with us. He had the best attitude and worked so hard which didn't go unnoticed. He made me enjoy my first experience here even more. This location is super spacious and had a nice layout where our section felt private despite not being completely closed off from the rest of the restaurant. It's the perfect space to hold an event! I made the situation known to the manager named Jerry, and they have still haven't refunded me because he says I have to go in person in order to receive the refund. I don't live near Rancho Cucamonga, so this is an unreasonable request. I was told that I would be issued a refund via Zelle since I am not near Rancho, but so far I have received nothing and now Jerry is even avoiding my calls. They seem to get swamped and busy but given what it is, I'd say they do their best to get things out as fast as they can/communicate pretty well. I like how dark this Kalaveras is, some are more light, but it makes the vibes in here pretty cool. I'd say the food is between a 3.5-4.5/5 stars, it kind of just depends what you order. The drinks are always a 5/5 for at every Kalaveras. Their happy our 3-7pm M-F is also a pretty solid deal! My family brought me here today to celebrate mothers day, it was 3 adults 3 kids under 9 years old. I had checked for prices and said it was $35 per adult and $18 per child so we went and as soon as we got there we were told we were only allowed 80 minutes to eat, we said okay but thought it was weird such a short time but went with it. The food was good and we ate and drank. At exactly the 80 minute mark they told us we had to pay and leave. No joke exactly at 11 am they brought the check and told us we had to leave. I had a full plate in front of me and we were rushed out. We paid and left and when we got to the car we carefully reviewed the receipt because it was sooo high. Turns out that they upped the prices of the buffet to $50 per adult and $25 per child and had added a 18% service fee that came out to $40.50. Basically just because its mothers day they upped their prices and added additional fees and no where and at no point did they ever inform us of all the price increase and the added fees. Honestly this is beyond ridiculous and I feel robbed. We were given barely over an hour to eat and charged way more than usual and on top we were charged an additional fee. What should have been a bill of less than 200 dollars came out to nearly 300 dollars. The world is already sooo costly with groceries and gas prices to then be uncharged and not even beign told about it before hand. I will never be going back and if your struggling financially and just trying to treat yourself for the first time, go somewhere else cuz they robbed us here and then rushed us out the door as quickly as possible. The beer tasted so delicious and the meat was very soft, the taco was nice and crunchy with cheese, and it came with the side of really spicy chile. As someone who is Mexican and grew up eating this definitely was a hit! I think these pictures are from two different occasions the second time I got the shrimp tacos Gobernador that were also amazing but I think I will stick to the tacos just because they're so good. My family brought us here for the first time, and we were not disappointed! This place was phenomenal. The staff was courteous, patient, and attentive, not to mention fast! My husband ordered a margarita when we placed our dinner order, and shortly after the waitress walked away, another server approached with his drink. The chips, salsa, and guacamole arrived right after that. The chips were warm and didn't taste like the store-bought bagged chips that many restaurants serve. The guacamole was served in a lovely molcajete and was the best we've ever had at a restaurant. We didn't even finish the chips before our dinner was delivered. My only real critique would be for them to check the restrooms more often because when it's busy they get dirty pretty quick. We will definitely go back again and bring more people with us.
