Four years ago, Pure Water Plumbing & Rooter Inc. replaced a section of my home's sewer pipe and…read moreprovided a 10-year warranty for the work. Approximately two years after the replacement, the sewer line became blocked again. I contacted the company for warranty service, but they claimed the issue was in a different section of the pipe -- not the portion they had replaced -- and therefore refused to take responsibility. This explanation did not make sense to me, since if the entire line was at risk of failure, they should have informed me at the time and addressed the full problem rather than performing only a partial and temporary fix. I then hired another licensed plumbing company to inspect the issue. Their findings were as follows: "The connection between the new ABS pipe installed by Pure Water Plumbing & Rooter and the existing clay pipe failed. The band (a type of coupling) used to connect the two materials deteriorated, allowing roots to grow in and causing a portion of the old pipe to collapse. We will need to cut out about three feet of the damaged area, reconnect the pipes properly, and use appropriate fittings." This indicates that the connection made by Pure Water Plumbing & Rooter failed and directly contributed to additional damage in the sewer line. The issue appears to stem from improper installation or use of inadequate materials during their original repair. As a result, I now have to pay another plumbing company to repair both ends of the section that Pure Water Plumbing & Rooter had replaced -- even though their work was supposed to be covered by a 10-year warranty.

Since diagnosing water hammering often involves a process of elimination, Martine evaluated the situation, confirmed that my water pressure was within an acceptable range, and presented three possible solutions at different price points. Interestingly, each plumber who provided a quote offered a different explanation for what might be causing the issue. Given that water hammering can have multiple potential causes, I ultimately decided to pursue the simplest solution: installing a washing machine arrester valve, which was recommended by another company. Although I chose a different approach, I appreciated Martine's professionalism, punctuality, transparency, and willingness to explain the available options. I had a leak from my upstairs bathroom to the dining room, and part of my plaster fell off. The company I'd used for years (even paying a premium membership) didn't bother opening it up--just referred me to a restoration company that quoted $5,000. Turns out it was just a hairline crack in my toilet tank--slow drips over time. The mold was under 3 inches and the plaster cut was under 2 feet.
