I hired S & T Coombe to install a Class A chimney system on my brand-new home after speaking with Jeremy. I trusted them as professionals and specialists in this type of work, and I could not be more disappointed with the result. I paid $6,000 total, including $1,200 in labor, only to end up with an installation that damaged my home and required my builder to step in and correct it. They subcontracted the install out, and the work performed was sloppy, damaging, and clearly not up to code or manufacturer standards. Instead of following manufacturer guidelines, which call for brackets to be mounted directly to the structure using steel stand-off hardware with properly flashed and sealed penetrations, they took a shortcut. They screwed pressure-treated wood strips through the vinyl siding and used those as the mounting surface for the support brackets. This method is not code-compliant, not weatherproof, and not durable. The pressure-treated wood is exposed to the elements, which means it will swell, shrink, and eventually degrade and fail. More critically, the brackets were installed with enough force to visibly compress and distort the vinyl siding, destroying the Dutchlap profile and compromising the siding's ability to expand and contract. This isn't just a cosmetic issue, it's a long-term moisture intrusion risk that will lead to rot, mold, and hidden structural damage. Every building professional and code expert I consulted confirmed this was improper and amateurish. Worse yet, when I raised these concerns, Jeremy of S & T Coombe didn't acknowledge the mistake, and instead doubled down that this is standard practice and something that they "do all the time". When I continued to push back on the install, he proposed a half-baked fix: they'd remove the pressure-treated wood strips, then cut slits into the vinyl siding, slide the same strips behind it, and reinstall the brackets through those slits, then caulk over the cuts and call it done. To top it off, they said I'd need to sign a liability waiver releasing them from responsibility for any future water damage this method might cause. This wasn't a real solution, it was a cosmetic patch job that still ignored manufacturer guidelines and basic building standards. No flashing, no proper mounting blocks, and no real waterproofing, just a way to cover their tracks and shift the risk to me. This was done to a brand new house, and I now have to pay out of pocket to repair the damage and redo the installation the right way. I've already disputed the labor charge through my bank, but the wasted time, stress, and physical damage to my brand-new home are on them, and they've done nothing to make it right. If you're considering S & T Coombe please take my advice and run the other way. They subcontract incompetently, cut corners with zero hesitation, and when confronted, they try to cover their liability instead of fixing the issue. If they're willing to do work this visibly wrong, imagine what they're doing in areas you can't see. That's not just unprofessional, it's predatory. And let's not forget: this isn't drywall or paint. This is a chimney system, a fire-handling structure that demands precision and strict adherence to safety codes. Shoddy workmanship here doesn't just void warranties or cause leaks, it can lead to fires, carbon monoxide exposure, and catastrophic damage. That they treat such a job so casually is not only irresponsible, it's dangerous. S & T Coombe cannot be trusted. I wouldn't let them near my house again if they offered to work for free. read more

S & T Coombe did some work to my fireplace because we were getting a bad draft. Mike recommended I get the wall insulated. He came as promised and removed the siding from the wall that the fireplace was on and insulated the entire wall. He then replaced all the siding so well that no one would know any work was done to that wall. Mike completed the job and left everything nice and clean. He was very reasonable with the amount he charged. They are very responsive and reliable. read more

Last week I needed a thermopile and thermocouple for an Empire propane stove. I wanted to avoid the big box stores and support local small business so I went to S&T Coombe. I was charged 129.32 for parts that I could have purchased on Amazon or hardware stores for less than 30.00. After a few email exchanges their explanation was "We use the manufacture's suggested retail price." Their explanation does not make sense. The entire pilot assembly, inclusing the thermopile and thermocouple could be purchased for less than 100.00 from Empire. Shop around before you purchase from S&T Coombe. read more

Incredibly poor service after the sale... When I bought stove in 2019, it took them 4 callouts to get the stove working properly. Each callout was like pulling teeth. Update 11/6/2023: Had a problem, remote control would not turn unit on..No heat in house. They told me they would be out in a MONTH. After badgering them and hearing how they were too busy to come out, they lowered it to a week ( I assume that was to get me out of the showroom, they had done that to me in the past. PRO TIP: If you are going to mislead a customer on service date, at least pretend to look at a calendar or computer screen). My advice. STAY AWAY. They smile when they are selling..and when you card clears the reader, it's the last smile you will see. CONCLUSION: Local contractor came out the following day, got it working in 15 minutes, charged 50 bucks. Heat is a necessity in Northeast Pa. If you can't provide service after the sale close up and open an ice cream stand. read more

Mike came out today and fixed a nagging problem with our gas fireplace remote, and it only took 5 minutes! He knew exactly what he was doing, and now it works perfectly! I would have given only 4 stars, because we had a bit of a back and forth for a week trying to set up an appointment after our first one was cancelled due to bad weather. Rude and very unprofessional Mike came on Friday to give a price on a gas fireplace insert promised he would call that night never did I called on Saturday several times to have the secretary call me back to say I wont get an estimate until either Monday night or Wednesday I told her don't bother and then received a phone call back from MIke accusing my elderly parents and home aid of lying that he never promised an estimate that night and rudely hung up the phone on me Simple fireplace insert estimate should not take that long if your in the business I'm a business owner and I have either same day or 24 hour turnaround for estimates read more

I will never do business with this place ever again. Several times I called with a question and every time I couldn't get a straight answer and was told someone would call me back. Never received any call backs and every time I called back no on knew what I was even talking about. Last incident was about delivering pellets and the person on the phone actually cursed at me and hung up on me and wouldn't answer the phone when I called back. How do you run a business like this? They are so unorganized and unprofessional and the old woman that answers the phone and works there is completely clueless and just makes the situation worse. Buyers beware, don't use these people unless you want a huge headache!! Purchased a wood stove a little over a year ago, and in November the hinge broke causing the door to fall off. The parts for the stove are under warrantee, so I called to get the piece fixed. I was told that I was hanging on the door which caused it to break (this is not true). After many unanswered calls I was told I would have the door fixed before Christmas. Again, my calls were avoided. It is close to the end of January, and I just received the part. I commented how it was supposed to be fixed before Christmas, and I was told "you are being impossible" he stormed out and I was told never to call them again. We purchased a stove insert about a year ago and had it installed before Christmas of 2017. We attempted to use it in January and noticed changing the burn rate lever had no effect on the amount of oxygen being supplied. Called S&T out to show them it had no effect and they showed me how to light a fire. Not really the issue but thanks. Suggested they hang out, I can start a fire and show them, the response was insurance wouldn't allow them to be there and they assured me that when you turn down the burn rate it's not instant. I accepted their suggestion and tried it again that night. I gave it 30 minutes after turning down the lever and still no change in the fire. I called them back again and the solution was to place a brick on the baffles in the path of the smoke exiting. Sort of like a damper on old stoves. They cut the brick, told me where to place it and I did. We tried the fire and within an hour the house had filled with smoke. Not being able to shut off the air flow because the original problem wasn't resolved we fled the house around 10:00 PM leaving the fire going. I contacted the manufacturer, they put me in touch with another vendor and it was determined that the seal around the door was compressed. When a dollar bill was placed between the seal and the door, and the door locked the dollar bill almost slid out by itself, the seal was replaced and the issue resolved. read more
