Strawberry gazpacho (vegan)
Matt B.

Amazing vegetarian and vegan food -- everything was memorable. We arrived at 11pm on a Sunday (Google says they're open till 12am), and were told they were closed. We said that Google says they were open and that we really wanted to eat there. So, the woman checked with the kitchen, and told us we could dine there, but they won't have some things on the menu. (We learned that it's surprisingly hard to give businesses money sometimes in Spain.) Everything is vegetarian and most things are either vegan or can be made vegan. We ordered: -Strawberry gazpacho (€7) -- this was their soup of the day. Never had a strawberry gazpacho before, but this was sublime: lightly spicy, tomato-ey, gently berry-like, and spiced beautifully overall. Excellent way to start the meal. 5/5 -Padro peppers with lime, chili, and salt (€4.50). The peppers were roasted really nicely, but they were too salty. The lime and chili part was nice, but they need to tone down the salt. Still, tasty dish -- surprisingly not spicy. 4/5 -Ensalada (€9). Huge portion of fresh mixed leaves, with shaved cucumber and carrot, mixed toasted nuts, and a balsamic glaze. Simple, but fresh, tasty, and healthy. Wonderful salad. 5/5 -Puffed pastry with marinated mushrooms (€12, I think) -- this was a specialty item that they don't always have. This was simply amazing, mostly because of the marinated mushrooms, which were beautifully savoury, tangy and juicy, The pastry was very well-done also. Delicious. 5/5 After the initial greeting, the service was very friendly and quick. Another fantastic vegan meal in Spain. Highly recommended.

Since I was determined to hit the best vegetarian restaurants in Barcelona to satisfy both the long-running foodie and the burgeoning health obsessive in me, I made a reservation for Jamie W. and me before we even got to Barcelona based o the local Yelp reviews. I didn't know what I was expecting, but upon first glance, it was a rather unassuming and dimly lit cafe, quite small inside with a youthful student vibe since the University of Barcelona is nearby. Young couples filled all the tables for two, and an Indian family sat next to us as they enthusiastically discussed the son's academic endeavors. It was definitely a popular spot that evening. It looked like it was just two young men who managed the place and waited on tables as they ran around with a huge chalkboard that listed all the daily specials. We weren't especially famished since we had a late lunch at one of the bustling seafood counters at Mercat de la Boqueria, so a vegetarian menu was the right thing to satisfy us. It started with complimentary glasses of a fresh ginger lemon juice that was quite refreshing as a palate cleanser (photo: http://bit.ly/2yRbOLq), and then we dove into a shared 4€ plate of Padron Peppers with Lime Salt and Chili (photo: http://bit.ly/2ipmlHp). It was quite a large platter of them and the peppers were appropriately blistered, but there was just a little too much lime for my taste. We also tried the 4.5€ Mushroom Croquettes which we didn't care much for since they actually pulverize the mushrooms and shape them into balls when we would have preferred the mushrooms left in their original state (photo: http://bit.ly/2jzuah6). The problem was that the consistency was rather mealy despite the crispy exterior. Jamie kept it light, at least relatively speaking, with the 14€ Chef's Green Mixed Salad, quite an abundant bowl of greens, beets, carrots, zucchini, and rather strangely, boiled potatoes, all of it splooged with a coriander & green chili sauce (photo: http://bit.ly/2AQhLIK). He deemed it "pretty good", and I had a couple of bites and have to agree with the assessment as it wasn't quite outstanding. My entree order was based on a number of appetizing photos I saw of it online, the 13.50€ Baked Cauliflower with Tahini Sauce,Coriander & Green Chili Sauce. Pine Nuts, and Pomegranate Seeds (photo: http://bit.ly/2zLb2Tm). It was quite a presentation as half of a cauliflower head was baked whole with all the other ingredients drizzled and sprinkled on it in the most artful way with a steak knife sticking out of the top like Thor's hammer. No need for Asgardian strength to pull it out as the cauliflower fell apart rather easily. It was indeed the tastiest dish of the evening. Although they appeared to be famous for their desserts, in particular, a large chocolate brownie with nougat ice cream, we took a pass and let the youth imbibe the extra calories. FOOD - 4 stars...hefty portions of veggies, mostly quite good though a tad bland sometimes AMBIANCE - 3 stars...felt more like a spruced-up student hang-out based on the casual, loudish vibe SERVICE - 3.5 stars...the boys were busy but dutiful TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely a cheaper veggie option for the portion sizes if you're in the mood

Great vegetarian food! The Gaspacho is awesome. The Brussel Sprouts are also amazing but the mushroom croquettes were the best (even for someone not keen on mushrooms).

Traveling Vegan here. I love trying new vegan places all over the world. When I searched a vegan place near me, this was the closest one that evening, so I thought I would give it a try. First off, the area was a little run down. I'm a solo female traveler, and while I continued walking, if it wasn't for my end goal being so close, I would not have kept walking down the few streets I had to take to get there. Over all the atmosphere was cute. There was a back eating area that had reservations, so even though it was not full, I could not sit there. I ended up at the bar, which was cozy and cute enough. The food was pretty good. It was a bit overpriced in my opinion. For €14 the cauliflower I got was pretty small, with decent flavors, but got that price I wold like it to be the best cauliflower I've ever tasted, or at least a little more food. Same with the strawberry soup. It was good, but a very small portion, and not mind blowing. The champagne was nice, the service was great. I liked This place, but will probably try somewhere different next time I'm in Barcelona.

Before leaving for Barcelona, I had done a few little researches on Yelp for some vegan restaurants. I had found Sésamo and added it to my bookmarks. The night we arrived, we went there right away and we are so happy we did. The staff was super friendly, the place was cute. We ordered a few items from their daily special menu and everything was good and flavourful. Will definitely go back the next time that I'm in Barcelona.

Small unassuming space on a rather quiet corner, but the inside was warm and inviting, with a small but well decorated seating area. Bathrooms were fiery hot however and not well ventilated! Staff seemed a bit hurried, but warmed up a bit throughout our visit. We were a group of 7, so decided on the tasting menu, which includes two glasses of wine or beer per person and water. In total I think we had about 10 different dishes. Melon, ginger and basil cold soup was a refreshing start to the meal, with just enough kick from the ginger and pepper to really wake up the taste buds. Beautiful colour! Mushroom croquettes, creamy dreamy and perfectly fried. Hearty texture, robust earthy flavour, my only complaint was I wanted more! Roasted Potatoes served with chutneys: a garlicky aubergine purée, Spinach and roasted squash. Dips were tasty but the potatoes were a bit boring! Roasted red cabbage with a mint sundried tomato pesto with pie nuts and sesame. One of the best dishes of the night- unexpected combination but salty and rich, with sweetness of the mint, the sauce is boss!!! Filo parcel filled with spinach and feta served with a diced carrot/ginger salsa which offered a nice balance of sweetness to the dish. Roasted cheese with green tomatoes served with pan con tomat. Melted, crispy, salty cheese with bits of sweet roasted tomatoes...piled on top of a crusty piece of bread smeared with fresh tomato and garlic...what's not to love!! Gnocchi was served with a beetroot sauce and Parmesan, another unusual combination but the gnocchi were pillowy soft and delicate, with a beautiful coloured and sweet beet purée. Chickpea spinach peanut curry with rice, a lovely flavour though felt a bit out of place, and towards the end of all there courses was a bit heavy! Mango coconut mousse with chia seeds topped with a cherry was much lighter than expected and had a texture similar to tapioca (had mixed reviews!) but I found it refreshing and just the right level of sweetness Dulce de leche truffles- what a finish!! They managed to just toe the line of these being too sweet, served on a luscious caramel sauce and sprinkled with cocoa powder. Wow! A must visit in Barcelona, promise you won't miss the meat!!

Wonderful time at Sesamo We arrived a bit early & got to indulge in their specialty gin & Tonic drinks - the Mr had the Bombay daily special that came with fresh kafir leaves & I opted for the San Francisco which had cardamon seeds. Both were out of this world! Tasting menu was such a hard decision to make but we wanted to try a little of everything & this seemed like the best opportunity to do just that! It's chef's choice so you have no idea what the menu will be - but you can be assured it will be tasty! Strawberry gazpacho- lots of black pepper.....so good! Potatoes with carrot purée lots of white pepper & eggplant w tahini Mushroom croquette - lovely mousse & loved the thick breaded coating Padron pepper with lime & chili - very mild & flavorful Red cabbage w sundried tomato & mint in Egyptian spices Bread olive oil & fresh smashed tomato Roasted pumpkin stuffed provolone cheese - awesomeness Grilled gnocchi in beetroot sauce & hazelnuts Chickpea curry with spinach & cashew. Hardly any spinach flavor & this is a great thing ( for me ). The cashew took center stage & it was a lovely dish Mango mousse w coconut milk pomegranate & chia

Roasted cauliflower - phenomenal!

This was my most favorite meal in Spain. I somehow convinced my in-laws to join me for a vegetarian dinner, and I'm so happy we came here. It was just around the corner from our Airbnb, and we nearly walked right by it, as it looks like a quiet bar from the outside. But once we entered, we were quickly brought to a small dining room in the back with an open kitchen. It was so quaint, it warmed my heart. We skipped the tasting menu to just order nearly everything on the menu. The two standouts for me were the grilled red cabbage and the head of roasted cauliflower. Oh my!!! The cabbage was so meaty and savory, and flavored so well. When the cauliflower came out, I clapped with excitement. It had a steak knife sticking straight out of it, and I insisted on doing the honors. "This is the only opportunity I've ever had to carve and serve the main course." It was so fun to share a true vegan centerpiece with my family, and the flavors really delivered. It was smothered in a silky tahini sauce and studded with pomegranate seeds. For dessert, I had the chocolate fondue, which came with a gorgeous assortment of fruit, including figs and strawberries. When the waiter set the dish down and explained that it was also accompanied by two roasted vegan marshmallows, I yelled, "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. SERIOUSLY, VEGAN MARSHMALLOWS?!" Maybe not yelled, but it was loud enough for the chef in the back to laugh in response. I felt absolutely spoiled. Sésamo is joining the ranks of Vedge and Crossroads as one of my most favorite restaurants, because of the way in which it treats vegetables like the main event. It's not completely vegan, but there is more than enough for vegans to feast on, and the staff is well versed on what is and is not vegan, so you can eat without worry.

I'm over the moon about this place---and I'm a food professional!!!! Tasting my way through Spain at the moment and definitely found a gem here! We were waited on by the best team ever including the chef. Their recommendations were perfect- everything was fresh, creative, tasty and beautifully presented. The 3 ladies at the table next to us ordered foods different from us and liked every dish. Cozy place. Look past the street and exterior for a great food experience!!!

Amazing lead up dishes.

A must try vegan/vegetarian spot. Two days later, we're still reminiscing about it. We arrived at 7:45pm and were lucky enough to snag a table. Make a reservation is you're a table of 2 or more. We were super impressed by the selection! We ordered house pickles, steamed potatoes with an eggplant dip, lime shishito peppers, tomato bread, fried artichokes, dukka spiced red cabbage, and tahini roasted cauliflower steak. Our favorite (hands down) was the cauliflower steak. It was phenomenal, great presentation and super tasty and moist. Comfort food at its healthiest and best. Each dish had its very own specific balanced flavor. Definitely check out their daily specials to see what's new! Sadly, we were too full for dessert...this time.

Brilliant food, good for causal dining , drinks and tapas. Very cosy restaurant. Prefer to go if it's less crowded or it can get extremely warm and sweaty inside. Not recommended for young families

Part of the seven dish tasting menu. Super delicious red cabbage!

As a vegetarian I can say that good vegetarian restaurants are hard to find. This is definitely one of them! Sésamo is a restaurant where vegetarian cuisine is taken seriously and not just an extra thing on the menu. We ordered the tasting menu, and it was super delicious and good value for money. €25 for seven small dishes (which felt like much more), two glasses of wine and a dessert to share. We were perfectly full and satisfied when we were done. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone - also non-vegetarians. Service was helpful and attentive and the look to the kitchen revealed very good kitchen hygiene. All in all a very satisfying experience!

This place marked the spot. There's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. I preferred an indoor seat this evening because of the heat. First, the paella comes in a hearty serving. Definitely will fill you up. I arrived around 7ish for perspective and they made this to order. The paella was made wonderfully. Me personally, it seems a bit too rice heavy and not enough seasoning for my preference, but that is more an indictment on paella and not this place. They did have plenty of other options so I'm sure people are satisfied regardless.

Very filling, and such good vegetables. The fish/meat substitute was super good. Really well done. Reasonably priced for LA standards. Not sure what standard BCN pricing is but my entree was ~15 euro. Had a small amount of leftovers. Ambiance was great, too. And staff able to speak English if you have any questions. Great allergen labeling. All around stellar spot. PS my walking tour guide said Born is much cooler and less touristy than the Gothic District- if that helps you choose which location. And the church across the plaza is free after 6 pm so pop in and look for the FC Barcelona window.

The large bowl of salad had a mix of kale (duh), tomatoes, sprouts, avocado, nori sheets, mango, and radishes. It was fresh, delicious, and much needed after a week of eating nonstop paella. I love how everything is labeled with allergens. My sister and I split four veggie dishes - roasted broccoli with zhug sauce and pomegranates (a unique orange sauce that was so good; the broccoli had amazing char and the pomegranates was a perfect juicy crunch) - roasted cabbage pie (not actually a pie lol, I think the translation is more like cabbage steak. This was a light orange sauce that said chipotle as well but I didn't taste any heat. The cheese was divine and the crunch of the pecans was perfect. I loved all dishes but this was my "least" favorite - roasted boniatos aka sweet potatoes (this came out steaming hot and was soo good. The yogurt tahini sauce was creamy and nutty and once again good crunch with the pomegranates; yes there's a theme. The sweet potatoes were not crunch themselves so the Poms were a great addition - the star of the show for me was the berejena jackfruit, which had eggplant glazed in miso with the jackfruit, a chili jam, peanuts (see the crunch theme), and more. It was hearty and the flavor was deeply developed and packed a wonderful flavor explosion Food came out very fast! It also wasn't busy at 7pm, early for Spain!
