    Martini that is a must!
    Julie L.

Delicious deviled eggs as an appetizer. Bread service for the night was corn bread muffins which were good but not great. I had a house salad with sherry vinaigrette that I loved. The hamburger was good but no sauce- it needed something. At the table we had the fried chicken, chicken & dumplings, and rainbow trout. There was not a wow with any of these. But the banana cream pie was fabulous. And the best was my martini which had lime , basil and a surprising meringue on top. FANTASTIC! Another great thing about this place was the staff. Very friendly and made the night even more fun for my daughter's birthday.

Once again this was a great experience. Came in to have a solo dinner this time and was greeted by the wonderful bartender. I got the burger and fries to eat which was cooked to perfection. After, I tried the Root Beer Float cocktail and the Flourless Dark Chocolate Cake for dessert. The combination of the two was incredibly delicious. The float is perfect for whiskey lovers like myself and the cake is very rich and complimented perfectly by the coffee ice cream on top. They always seem to have the KC sports on tv at the bar too which is nice. I will definitely be back and highly recommend!

First time at Rye and was impressed! Starting off with the service, I had called a day before Easter to see if there were any available reservations, the person on the phone I believe Alex was his name was extremely helpful and was able to fit 3 of us in. When we arrived on Easter not only was the entire area clean and welcoming but the staff was friendly and polite, we were immediately showed to our seats and asked if we'd like to start off with drinks and appetizers. Our server was friendly, fast and respectful. Our food and drinks were the main theme of our brunch. Fresh and perfect made, each bite was bliss. Highly recommend this place for brunch and I'm excited to return to try their dinner menu. Overall great first time experience at Rye!

Had the most delightful experience at Rye and I have to praise them for their attention and service on such a busy day for them! We decided to try a walk in for brunch on Mothers Day. The were able to seat us right away on their beautiful patio overlooking the fountain. The food was incredible, the friend chicken and chicken fried steak were delicious. The service was impeccable. Amazing drinks. Adri was the best server and accommodative in my request for a candle for my daughter's birthday! I would absolutely eat here again and highly recommend! 10/10!

    Apple pie

I had more than the apple pie but it was the only thing that I actually took a picture of. I loved the pie and had no clue I would like it because pies not my go to dessert. I think I like it because it was layers of apples with a crumble style topping versus a traditional pie crust. The caramel sauce was really good mixed in the a little ice cream. The whipped goat cheese appetizer was sneaky good, the honey and the greens that came with it made a unique flavor that kept me eating it. The fried chicken here was delicious, lightly fried batter, juice and flavorful.

On a Saturday afternoon this place is buzzing with people. Just when you think it's too crowded, you realize when you're seated. That you don't have that crowded because the restaurant is quite spacious. I totally enjoyed the vibe, and the great service from Kate. Cinnamon bun- They are known for their cinnamon bun. This dessert is offered as an appetizer and it's huge. You literally can share this with another person. I like the fact the frosting wasn't overly sweet. The cinnamon bun was warm and chewy but not doughy. Some may like it more drier but I prefer it how Rye makes it. Shrimp and grits- Nice serving size.. Grits were creamy and plenty of shrimp. Only issue for me was the sauce, it tasted more like a watered down bbq sauce. That flavor was off putting to me. Chicken fried steak- This entree can easily feed two people. The steak was fried perfectly and seasoned well. I would suggest though, use mashed potatoes that are not instant potatoes. The instant potatoes blended too much into the gravy and you couldn't tell them apart. Smoked short rib hash- This dish had so much potential but it fell short due to the blandness of the flavor. To me the only flavor that stood out was lemon. But from what I read of the description of the dish. There is no lemon, so why did it have a sour (lemon) undertone flavor? Cocktails- Amazing

Brussels sprout: Good appetizer that balances the meal due to its tangy notes (lemony). Bacon was a good touch too, can't go wrong with that. Friend chicken with gravy: Personally could've gone without it but since I'm from out of town, I had to try. Sweet potato casserole: It's got some fall spices and the marshmallow was a nice touch. Very flavorful! Shrimp and grits: This is the star of the meal - not like a North Carolina style dish but it's hearty and tasty. Pistacho Nutella cinnamon roll: YUM! Fantastic heated up (you might have to take it home because the portion sizes are pretty big).

Such a cute place in a great location on the plaza! We made a reservation and were seated quickly. The decor is so cute and really adds to the ambience. The pancakes and waffles and chicken are delish and staple dishes! It was super busy since we were there for Sunday brunch which added to the fun vibe!

We stopped in for Sunday brunch at 1pm and were able to get a table with only a short wait even without a reservation. Our server was friendly and helped us with some recommendations after he had to break the news to us that the cinnamon rolls were sold out. I ordered the chicken and waffles which had some fun flavor additions like the marshmallow. My friend ordered pancakes which were so fluffy and so good. This was one of the best brunches I've had in a while and will definitely be back next time I'm in KC!

Rye is down in the Plaza of KC! Kinda on the outskirts, but still easy to find and enjoy! We went for lunch one day, and it was pretty dead inside, maybe 5 tables and they stuck us in the back corner right next to another table, which seemed kinda funny. Our server was missing a lot of service and drinks were not getting refilled and we were waiting a while to order & then get our check and then have him bring our check back. I could tell the table next to us as well was having the same issue with him. BUT the food was 10/10! Wow! This will now be one of our top restaurants in KC! Everything was delicious, my husband has been on the shrimp & grits train which lead us to this place! I got a brie dip & ceaser salad *girl dinner* hahah!

Great brunch spot. Elevated casual - full bar, tons of cocktail options. Do NOT miss out on the fresh baked lemon meringue- perfection. I also loved my meal of sweet sausage, cornbread, greens and a jammy egg. So much flavor!

A casual spot with good food that's just a little pricey. Service was good. We were sat instantly on a Saturday morning for brunch. Our server came over almost immediately. Food: We got the cinnamon roll for $11. And this was a monster of a cinnamon roll. It was huge and easily shareable among 4 people. We were not warned before hand. The only thing we wished was that is was hot. It came out like warm instead. We also got the French toast and chicken. The chicken was a little dry and the meal was overall a little overcooked but it still had good flavor. We would have gotten a drink but decided $12 for a mimosa was just out of our price range. The ambiance is very casual they had the Saturday college football games on the tvs near the bar so the place is also family friendly. If you've got some extra cash to spend and you're in the area we would recommend but I'm sure there are other spots just as good and not as pricey nearby.

Stopped in for brunch on the plaza. Kate was our waitress. We received menu recommendations and gave them a try. Definitely didn't thoroughly review the menu item's ingredients when it came to my mom ordering shrimp & grits as it has shredded pulled pork atop the grits. It was a lot. She doesn't eat pork so we removed it. We let Kate know upon one of her check-ins with us. The grits and shrimp weren't all the flavorful. It's always interesting to see how restaurants put their own flavor to traditional dishes and this was definitely unique. My French toast slices were good, the syrup & butter gave it flavor. It looked like the chicken was going to be with the lightly crisp skin, which dropped off the chicken occasionally ended up being the flavorful part of the tenders. The chicken itself was not seasoned at all. It had no flavor to it. The appetizer, fried green tomatoes were tender but the cornmeal breading was very gritty. I've had cornmeal breading before but it was not overdone like this. Our dining experience involved periods of waiting when it came to getting our check after we finished eating and receiving the receipt after providing payment. There were more than a few occasions we couldn't find our waitress and asked someone else for things.

So we loaded up and showed up one day around Noon. Ambiance was really cool. It's in the middle of some sort of progressive looking shanty-esque suburb. The kind of place that does drag queen bingo. I was right at home. Inside was college sport bar, but with a nice, huge board on the wall of all their beer selection. It Was quite expansive. Service was top notch, too. Nice server took care of us, made sure our glasses were never empty. The food came out at a good clips, and we got an unexpected bonus of free little beignet-like donuts with some delicious dipping sauces. As for food, we started off with a jumbo order of the Truffle Parmesan Hand-Cut Fries for the table. We got to choose two from their extensive list of aioli dipping sauces. Fries were good. Dusted with the perfect amounts of truffle and parmesan. And the sauces were my oh my. I recommend paying the upcharge to just try them all. I mentioned the time earlier, because we had no idea we were stumbling upon their brunch menu. Even more options to choose from! I got the Crispy Waffle Smash Burger (smashed hertzog beef patties, fried egg, smoked bacon, merkt's cheddar, caramelized onion, maple aioli, crispy buttermilk waffle). This thing was really nice. Perfect waffle, not too small, not too big, and no oily or anything obtrusive. A nice bun option. Eggs and bacon sometime get lost against giant burger patties, but with these smash patties, the extra accoutrements really stand out and make this burger really stand out in my mind. I also for the try the Smokestack Burger (smoked burnt ends, smoked gouda, whiskey bbq glaze, pickle relish, chipotle aioli & crispy jalapeño straws). Uhhh, as you can read, this thing was loaded with goodness. Fatty burger, smokey burnt ends, sweet boozy glaze, acidic pickles, and texture from that jalapeno. This was the perfect burger. I insist you order this. Overall, my research did not reveal Beer Kitchen to me, locals recommendation did. Shows that you gotta use your street smarts instead of your book smarts sometimes. Best meal I had in Kansas City.

The service manager saw us eyeballing the menu on the board and answered out questions, then invited us in. My family of four was sat in a booth in the middle of the restaurant with good visibility around the entire establishment. Ambiance was good, considering that its not inherently a family place. Old tap pulls adorn the ceiling and the light is just bright enough to not strain your eyes, but not so bright that there is glare off every surface. I ordered a cowboy coffee (espresso with tequila, very interesting) and a waffle smash burger sandwich. The table got fries as an appetizer and some kind of fried donut thing that I could have sworn was a Zeppole. As always, let's start with what was good... The appetizers were very good. The dips on the fries were both amazingly good. So much so that I used them on my side of fries after the kids ate all the ones in the basket. The waffle smash burger had a good flavor considering I had never paired a waffle with beef. Prices were agreeable for Westport, but its Westport so there is a slight premium. Servers were pretty much everywhere, so it was never too long for any request we had to be taken care of. On the flip side of that, there was a server doing side work dead center of the restaurant which was kind of awkward. I am used to seeing side work done in somewhere inconspicuous so it was just a little odd, but not off putting. Now let's look at the things that could be better... The dipping sauces for the Zeppole were not thick enough to actually stick to the delicious treat. The berry sauce really needed to be reduced further because it was too thin by far. Delicious, but thin. My waffle for the smashburger sandwich was too oily by far. I think this may have been an intentional choice considering that the waffle serves as the "bun" for the sandwich and maybe the oil was an attempt to keep the juice from the burger and the sauces from turning the waffle into mush. It worked... but it did take away from the flavor by obscuring the taste of the waffle itself. My egg was cooked to specification, so that's a win, but my partner's egg was overcooked. Consistency! Very important and yet not guaranteed, I think. The biggest problem I have with the brunch at Beer Kitchen though isn't the food, but the menu itself. There is not any way to construct a decently priced "simple breakfast." If you're not that hungry, or adventurous, you may find the menu difficult to contend with. I would consider adding something like "the Oldtimer" and have it be two eggs, a meat, toast, and fruit. Price it at 13.99 and leave it alone. Overall, the Beer Kitchen is a nice little brunch spot. So much so that we intend on making it a semi-frequent stop for us on days when the kids want to venture down towards the Plaza. 4 stars. Has room for improvement but is a solid experience for what you pay.

NA options are still considered an afterthought at a lot of bars, but that is absolutely not the case here. I tried several mocktails and every single one was thoughtfully made and full of flavor. I also loved the Turmeric Tonic, which had such a great balance of earthy turmeric, citrus, and a subtle kick from cayenne. It tasted elevated and adult, not overly sweet or juice-forward. The Piña Nolada was creamy, tropical, and refreshing, and worked really nicely as a contrast after a couple citrus-forward drinks. Overall, the menu felt intentional and well curated rather than a token NA offering. Gram & Dun was one of those restaurants. We show up for our reservations and get seated for a wonderful meal. Ambiance was surreal. The vibes inside were that of a modern Italian kitchen inside of a Southern parlor room. I know that doesn't make any sense, but it's true. And the restaurant looks out upon the quaint downtown street of this Kansas City suburb through giant, floor-to-ceiling windows. So beautiful. Service was great, as well. The server knew the menu very well, and was able to answer a few questions, guiding me to the correct thing to order. The apps, entrees, and dessert were all paced well, too. Service lead to a lovely evening. As for the food, we started off with the Not-So-Standard Potato Chips (parmesan, sauce flight: gold sauce, comeback sauce, black pepper bourbon ketchup). These were very good. House cooked chips that were just thick enough, had a good bite to them, and were absolutely covered in luscious parm. The sauce flight was fun, too. Keep the leftovers around to pair with the rest of your meal. Onto the Low Country Pimento Cheese (fried saltine crackers, candied black pepper bacon, bread & butter pickles, tomato jalapeño jam). Hillbilly charcuterie. Lots of fun to mix and match some bacon, some pickles, a little jam, all on those very unctuous Saltines. Very fun app. My main was the Brick Pressed Chicken (lemon & thyme brine, prosciutto & sausage bread pudding, caramelized cabbage, lemon & shallot cream sauce). Chicken was cooked to a charred perfection, that savory bread pudding was just an amazing as it sounds, and the cream sauce really brightened everything up. I don't usually get chicken, but I'm telling you, this was the chicken to get. I also got to try one of the nightly specials, some sort of cheesy parmesan pasta covered in black truffle shavings. It was as extravagant as it sounds. Fresh-made pastas, giant chunks of lobster, cheesy ooey gooey, and those truffle shavings add just a touch of class and umami that really made this a good pasta dish. We finished up with the Gram & Dun Bar (chocolate peanut and pretzel nougat, marshmallow cream cheese, chocolate mousse, peanut butter ice cream). Again, another thing I don't usually go for, the dessert bar, but this place did it in a way I haven't seen before. Each layer added to the dessert. Nougat, cream cheese, and mousse, all tied together with that cold, creamy peanut butter ice cream. So so good. Overall, as good as this place was on paper, Gram & Dun really blew me away. Really elegant food, found right in the heart of the country. It was a pleasant surprise, and I would come back in a heartbeat.

Very good. Nice atmosphere and good service. I ordered chicken and waffles and the wife ordered…read moretheir salmon. The chicken was perfect, hard to mess up chicken and waffles, I know, but it was still on point. The salmon dish was excellent and flavorful. It is a complex dish with ingredients that are complimentary and a creamy but light sauce that is perfection. It has a heaviness that makes it feel complete. Would return.
