So freaking good! Lobster bisque is yummy and lobster was fresh and excellent. Lobster roll is plentiful , fresh and well prepared. Love the casual shack. They work quickly and get to everyone with good manners and service. We will be back! Only downer is the parking lot. Kind of a mess and in need of some paving.I can get past that for the food. read more

Very disappointed after traveling out of my way to revisit Second visit to Rye Harbor Lobster and my last. Consistency is valued and not what I received. $30 for 1 clam chowder and 1 Fluffy chowder. Both were barely warm. Clam chowder had very little flavor and the large fluffy chowder had 4 SMALL bits of lobster meat, 3 of which were attached to the cartilege claw piece of lobster which has a bad texture and taste and is not actually meat. The little bit of lobster juice didn't even change the color of the chowder below it. First visited Rye Harbor Lobster in September 2023. Though the prices were a bit high, this was the best chowder in a 5 stop chowder finding mission. We had a regular chowder and a fluffy chowder. The 2023 fluffy chowder was excellent, though expensive for the spoonful of lobster meat on top. Returned for this visit in July 2024, expecting a great repeat experience and I would have enjoyed a can of Progresso clam chowder almost as much and would have saved $27. read more

We ordered two one and quarter pound lobsters, two pounds of steamers, and a fluffy chowder. The food was fabulous. The lobsters were super fresh, sweet, and cooked just perfectly. The steamers were equally fresh, sweet, and cooked to perfection. The fluffy chowder was delicious in a combination of thick creamy chowder with a delightful addition of lobster meat. The service was outstanding. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was well packed to take it on the road, eat in the car, or find a table or bench nearby. Everything was thoughtful packed for us. The location is a short detour off I-95, in a nondescript but picturesque fisherman's harbor. Forgot to take a picture of the food, because we were enjoying it so much. Highly recommend this place! Five stars! read more

Delicious. My first trip to Maine, the lobster was fantastic! We had a nice dinner by the water.

Best lobster roll ever. Can't wait to go back!! I got a great soup too but can't remember the name - was 3 meals!

Ate here on friend recommendation- was expensive but lots of lobster and quite good- ate it on picnic table at nearby state park

Great little spot, friendly staff but I suspect that the hot lobster roll (lobster in sherry butter) is made with frozen lobster. Lobster meat was shredded and so dry. Roll was perfectly grilled. The Montauk seafood salad was delicious- lemon tarragon (?) dressing. But please, use Maine shrimp! Taste tested the Rye Harbor Lobster Pound hot lobster roll against the little shack at the back of the parking lot closest to the harbor. The little shack's cold lobster roll was excellent- chunks of lobster dressed lightly with mayo. Served with lemon and chips. (Btw- they had a delicious cheeseburger and chowder too) read more

Ridiculously good! We indulged in a lobster roll, and an 8 oz cup of the fluffy chowder. I was so full! Easy to miss this spot if you drive by too fast. I had not had the lobster meat on top of clam chowder it was fantastic, they do a sherry drizzle too. They also offer hot with butter lobster rolls, which are my favorite. You may want to avoid butter for a few hours after this indulgence. Mmmm Mmmm wowzers read more

Best chowder in New England! Super creamy with a perfect consistency (not too thick or watery). Perfectly seasoned (I hate overly salty chowder which happen way too often). And SO MUCH LOBSTER! Huge chunks of lobster in the chowder. Fluffy chowder really is the best. Of course the lobster roll is good too but the chowder! I'm drooling just thinking about it. read more

Simply the best lobster bisque and fluffy chowder around. Big chunks of lobster! Been several times and it's always high on my list when I am in town. read more

The lobster bisque was amazing! Fresh chunks of lobster on top and a nice thick creamy soup. $9 for 8oz. No price break for buying the larger size. I would have liked to see a quart price. They also sell fresh lobsters and will cook them for you for 9% fee. Only one picnic table. Small parking lot so not a great place for a group to meet up but awesome for a family to stop by for some fresh lobster. No non-seafood option, but around the corner is a little place with burgers, grilled cheese and hot dogs. Super friendly staff. Showed my son a lobster up close, which he read more

Great food and owners. Thats good news! Also traffic there had Pease trade port limit parking

We stopped by Rye Harbor Lobster Pound after a trip to the nearby Seacoast Science Center. The woman behind the counter noticed my 6-year old daughter had a stuffed toy starfish, told her the Seacoast Science Center was one of her favorite places, and then actually pulled out a live lobster to show her. What a delightful visit! Everyone was so kind down to the parking lot attendants. Also, the food was amazing. We got hot lobster rolls and fluffy chowder. There's a reason they win awards. read more

Great lobster. Very reasonably priced. The lobster bisque is also excellent. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. It's on the waterfront so that is very cool. read more

Silvia Cheever must be happy. For her family who's owned this tiny business makes the penultimate lobster roll, a warm lobster roll. Travelers come here specially for this roll. When I was there Mainers were too because they feel Maine has made lobster trendy and is now overpriced there. And at $20 per roll for this quality of food? It's one-of-a-kind. Oh they make a cold lobster roll too, but this warm roll is definitely top shelf and my favorite lobster roll ever. RHLP is humble shack, the kind you'd think would be vexed to find, relieved after a long walk along Rye Harbor. But whatta find! A hot dog roll is heaped with freshly made lobster cooked in sauce in a huge crock pot low and slow-- my fave kind of cooking. And Silvia gave a short lesson on the flavors of lobster during the year-- molting lobsters in summer makes the lobster meat taste different compared to fall/winter. What is the warm lobster roll sauce that flavors RHLP rolls you might ask? It's a simple recipe...the lobster is harvested every morning; the lobsters are cooked low and slow in butter and sherry. The result? You get the most delicate, sweet, briny, salt, umami lobster deliciousness, so uniquely good, it's "slap yo mamma" good. I still dream of it. Then, the ultimate best dish..... if you could imagine overlaying this dreamy concoction atop their New England clam chowder; that clam chowder with Fluff (they call it) is my absolute favorite here, just unforgettable soulgasms, supreme ahhmayzin' dish. If you're a lobster fan, Rye Harbor Lobster Pound is a place worth a 45 minute drive north of Boston. Thanks to my Yelpie Sarah S. in Marblehead, MA for leading me here. It truly is an unforgettably scrummy lobster roll Sarah and it's quickly become my fave. So Silvia Cheever? I drove out of Boston for 45 minutes like a bat outta hell to try the famous RHLP warm lobster roll. Yelp, validated! Thanks for waking our world up to something wondrously delicious, and memorable. Yeah, I see why others would drive hours to get the famous warm lobster roll at RHLP. But next time, I think I'll get the warm lobster roll and wash that down with Chowder and Fluff .......just like the first time --- and that ain't no fluff. :)) Visits: 1 and many future ones. Tip: Free 30 minute parking across the street, large/paid parking lot beyond that for longer stays. Rye Harbor is a nice area to walk around and explore in the morning and lunch it up at RHLP. Open everyday 10a-7p or until lobsters run out. read more

I wanted fluffy chowder and I got my fluffy chowder. What's fluffy chowder, you may ask? It is what Rye Harbor Lobster Pound calls their clam chowder topped off with a scoop of their butter-sherry lobster meat, which is the same mix that they use to fill their lobster rolls. Rye Harbor was participating in the annual Hampton Beach Seafood Festival as a food vendor located in one of the two food tents. I picked the shortest line for a relatively late lunch, and was soon at the front. Fluffy chowder $8 ($5 without the fluff) Lobster Quesadilla with a dipping sauce of lobster bisque $10 My styrofoam bowl was short and stout, and not particularly well filled, even with the fluff topping, which was sad portionwise, but convenient for holding a bowl when you are standing around eating it without a table. Tasted good though. The Lobster filling in my quesadilla was unevenly placed, so the first half had lots more meat than the second. Also tasted good though. 3.5 stars. read more

We were here in September and stumbled on this little gem by mistake. What a wonderful experience! Great wait staff and honestly I think one of the best lobster rolls I have ever had. I've wasted enough of my time coming here so my review will be brief. I came during normal hours posted on yelp and apple maps and the place was closed. 10 plus stars!! Wow, one of the best fresh lobster rolls and chowder we have ever had! Fantasric, fast service. The steamers were yummy too!

The best lobster rolls I've ever had. I had the hot lobster roll, which is closer to Connecticut than Maine, and is doused in a butter/sherry sauce. They have cold options too, which I'm sure are just as good. The fluffy chowder is as good as advertised. It had much butter on top that I couldn't tell it from the bisque. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The food was clearly fresh, and the clam fish and butter synergized perfectly with the chowder. I'll be back next summer. I'm glad I can get my fix year-round now at their sister location. read more

It was getting to be labor day and we realized we hadn't had any lobster so decided to give this a try and also get some Hampton and Salisbury Beach and ocean at the same time. I had the hot lobster roll and my wife had the lobster mac&cheese and they were both good. My lobster roll was way overstuffed and there was plenty of lobster in with the mac&cheese. One slight drawback is that you either need to park in the "dock parking lot" for I think $5 for the day or they have some free 30 minute parking out front but that probably only works if you were picking up, eating there took maybe 45minutes or more. We paid for the lot and then walked around the docks and checked out the bay and then drove down through Hampton and Salisbury beaches, good food, good weather, good time! read more

Hands down the best best lobster roll around. They have amazing clam chowder and lobster mac and cheese also

Stopped here on a Thursday around 1:00. My wife got the hot buttered lobsta roll and I the cold one. Both were probably the best we have had so far this summer. Lobsta meat was very fresh and plentiful. Very good size. Also got the Fluffy Chowda. This was amazing! Loaded with clams and lobsta. What a flavor !! Well worth 50 min drive up from MA. We will return ! read more

Small owned. Exquisite seafood! Chowders, shrimp cocktails, lobster rolls with a warm sherry butter or cold!

Disappointed / really not worth it. Prices didn't match online. Lobster roll was small and overcooked; nothing like a recent Instagram review. Steamed lobster - fee for steaming, fee for butter. No lemon, utensils etc. Was told could try to crack it with a rock. Just not for us. read more

"It was the best of times. It was the worst of times." Charles Dickens must have been to the Rye Lobster Pound. This place is not for everyone so be forewarned. They serve this little cup of what they call "fluff" for $7 or $8. (Not really sure- I waited in the car). I guess they can make up whatever name they want for it, because it's not like anything you've had before, but I will attempt to describe it anyway. So, you know how when you go the AYCE seafood buffet and you wrestle your way to the crab station and grab a heaping plateful, then you take it back to your table and pick out all the meat and jam it into the bowl of melted butter (or whatever that yellow grease actually is) and then just take a fork and sit back suck in all that briny, oily goodness? If you don't, then you've been doing it all wrong and you're welcome. If so, then imagine this: Instead of crab it's lobster chunks, and in the bottom of the bowl is a layer of extra thick and sturdy clam chowder which will serve as a support system over which you pour that unctuous mixture, adding an extra shot of grease just for good measure. Now, if this is causing you to drool and you're already calling in sick so you can can take an emergency road trip to New Hampshire, you and I can be friends. If, on the other hand, you are recoiling at the thought, Rosebud felt the same and gets agitated just thinking about it. Good ammo for when I feel like torturing her. read more

The chowder is excellent! The lobster rolls - sorry to say - underwhelming for the price. We went many times this summer to support local business...when you're paying $25 for a lobster roll in an average hot dog bun the pile of lobster should say it all! Sadly when the young summer staff was there it was nothing more than a tiny spoonful of lobster, sometimes with several shells in it. However, when the owner is there you definitely get a real serving. That being said- folks we've brought have remarked at the lack of seating, unappealing swarms of flies, and price of the food for what you get. Maybe something better than a 30cent bag of Lays to go with it? We've lived here forever and will keep searching the Seacoast high and low for a lobster roll that merits the price tag. read more

Sylvia catered our beautiful New Hampshire wedding. The food was AMAZING. Working with her was such a special experience and a delight. She helped us to develop the perfect menu, she knew exactly the right amount of everything to recommend, and she even came personally to help set everything up. We had montauk salad, lobster bisque, and mussels in white wine garlic sauce (YUM). Then we supplemented with some of her non-seafood items: salad, mini turkey stuffing sandwiches, mozzarella basil balsamic mini sandwiches, and mac and cheese. Everything was incredible and all of our guests were so happy.  I'll admit, when we first started planning I almost didn't call her because I was so sure having lobster would be completely out of our price range, but she worked with us to make a menu that was perfect, and not just reasonable, but actually less than what other (honestly, less special) caterers quoted us. It was a dream come true.  Eating Sylvia's food from Rye Harbor Lobster Pound, and now also the Hungry Lobster, is truly a family tradition for us. Being able to share that with the others that we love at our wedding was perfect. There is truly nothing better than the fluffy chowder -- except maybe the bisque. Thank you Sylvia!! read more

My friend Karen and I went for fluffy chowder today! We entered the clam shack into a hustle of activity inside. The girls were friendly and fun and very helpful with our experience. We each ordered a large clam chowder 8 each and a scoop of yummy lobster on top $3 additional. Extra crackers. And an order of the freshest shrimp cocktail with a spicy sauce with the right Amy of heat. We brought our overflowing chowders outside and enjoyed them at the patio area in the fresh sea air. I was even able to bring my dog ToTo to join us outside. We had the best time chatting and chowing down on the best chowder ever. I wanted to cry with delight. We have found the ultimate chowder. I can't wait to try everything else too. There is a limited menu but I will be back to sample everything. Again and again. 5 stars!!! read more

We swung by here a couple of times when we were staying in the Portsmouth area, and I gotta say - I would never have pegged New Hampshire as a place you could get a great lobster roll, but they do a great job here. The spot itself is innocuous; there is free 30-minute parking outside of it, and I would assume in a normal summertime, the parking lot and the other shacks renting out equipment would be open; alas, in these not-so-normal days, they were basically the only place open. Placing an order is fairly easy, as the menu isn't terribly large, but keeping it simple makes it easy to order, and the food does come out pretty quickly. While the cold lobster roll is fairly standard, the warm roll, with the unique butter-sherry sauce that gives it a bit of a tart, buttery flavor is excellent. Both iterations are also extremely generous on the lobster portion, so one roll will definitely fill you up. If that's not enough, you do get a bag of Lay's as well to snack on. We did try the soups; definitely go with the 'fluffy' chowder, which is basically regular-way New England clam chowder, with aforementioned butter-sherry sauce drizzled in along with several chunks of lobster meat - it's the first lobster-clam chowder I had, and it is definitely worth a repeat try. The lobster bisque, unfortunately, was hard to finish; while the flavor is good, and the lobster meat plentiful, there is so much cream in it that it's a bit suffocating; we didn't bother finishing the soup after all the meat was gone. For a small snack that is refreshing, I'd recommend the steamers - it takes a little longer to come out (given the temperature, they steam them as ordered), but after you peel 'em and dunk 'em in clarified butter, it's a nice, chewy bite of briny richness. While this is a little off the beaten path relative to where Portsmouth is (the area we were at basically had no cell reception), if you are looking for a lobster roll to try on New Hampshire's short coastline, I would highly recommend making a detour out here and getting a meal. read more
