    The flight!
    Eugenia Y.

Ryanair, like everyone else has mentioned, is a budget airline. What you pay for is what you get, and I can't really fault them for that. I do hate how when you're going through the website, there are all these add-ons that you can accidentally purchase, so just be wary of that! Overall though, it's pretty much exactly what you think it will be. You have to pay for your carry on, but I just had a backpack for a short trip, so it wasn't an issue for me. I thought Ryanair was pretty decent--my flight left on time and landed safely and promptly. The only thing I would mention is that some of the staff are not the friendliest, but that won't put me off Ryanair flights. For the low price, you're really getting what you pay for.

This is a budget airline, so the reviews where they charge you for extra are accurate. I used this airline when traveling to Paris and to Roma and never had a bad experience. I paid for my carry on, but it was expected. It was a short flight and the flight attendants were very nice and patient. Over all I enjoyed using this airline and have no complaints. Only thing is 1 of the flights were delayed by 2 hours, but that happens with every airline.

Inefficient check in process.... Expect long waits for baggage drop and check in.

Ryanair is The Spirit Airlines of Europe... Where everything costs arm and a leg -- i.e. be it to choose your seat, to have a glass of water, to carry on a bag that exceeds the 10 kg weight and size limits, and to have your boarding card printed at the ticket counter. I read a lot of horror stories about people bringing in bags that fit the carry on size limits at check-in but were forced to check in at the gate when strict gate agents deemed these passengers' bags as too big. With those horror stories, I felt compelled to purchase a bag online, just so I could get some piece of mind. This turned out not necessary as passengers with very large bags, expanded and busted to the max, were let on without any problems or extra surcharges. Huh? What gives? On my flight from Madrid to Tangier, I waited about 30 minutes to check in my bag. Lines moved very slowly as hundreds of people - old and young - queued up to check in bags, etc. I was afraid that I was going to miss my flight with such a long line, but eventually I made it up to the ticket counter, checked my bag, and then I was on my way to the second ticket counter, for a RyanAir ticket verification stamping (which only took like 1 second). From there, security lasted about 15 minutes and passport control another 20-25 minutes (lines can be very long!). All in all, the exit procedures took about 1 hour total... Which left about 10-15 minutes extra to weave through Terminal 1 to get to the gate. It just happened that my flight to Tangier was late, due to late inbound aircraft and possibly the Madrid Airport strike. All in all, the flight was about 45 minutes late... Not too bad I suppose. One of the things I noticed, which I stated before, was that RyanAir customers in Spain rarely check in their bags even if they exceed the max size and weight. Huh? Almost all the passengers on my flight carried on pretty big luggage, but the gate agent didn't do anything about it. Why weren't their bags weight or sized, as I read online? Perhaps the Spanish division of RyanAir is more lax and laissezfaire? Not sure. Maybe it was just on my particular flight, since there would possibly be language barriers with some of the non-English or non-Spanish speaking customers! Not sure. At any rate, what I learned is that you probably will be okay without checking in your bag within Spain/Morocco flights. On my flight, I experienced something pretty scary: A few of the customers were using their cell phones during take off and landing! Granted that cell phone communication probably won't interfere with airplane/airport control tower communications, but there still could possibly be some possible risk of disruption or interference! The in-flight crew didn't do a very good job ensuring that all their passengers mobile phones were turned off, as I had experienced and evidenced! At least on the Madrid to Tangier flight, they should have more announcements, warnings, and precautions messages in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic to ensure all customers get the same message and comply with in flight crew instructions. My overall flight experience made me feel both a bit unsafe and a bit gypped. Yes, I could have saved 30€ for not checking in my bag, but I do tend to follow the old adage "better safe than sorry". Hopefully more communication messages will be executed for future Ryanair flights to ensure security and safety. Until then, I probably will not travel with RyanAir for a while.

When she saw that I had finally found our gate, she promptly turned her back on me and said something my son later said was quite rude.

When we finally were told to board, we were yelled for not having our passports ready, even though it was a local flight and we were not told previously to have them out. We were flying business class, and the seats did not even have extra leg room. It was a short flight, but business class amounted to sitting in front and receiving a snack and drink. Then we arrived in Madrid, where after 90 minutes, we started to ask, and an employee told us they were coming and we just have to wait, but we hadn't even given him our flight number yet! The next person we spoke to confirmed they were lost. They told us that we could buy replacement clothing and essentials and we would be reimbursed. Over the course of 3 days, they never contacted us, forcing me to call them repeatedly for updates, only to be told to go buy more clothes. The only instruction we were given was to avoid "luxury items" which we did. In the end, we sent in all our receipts to be told that they were reimbursing less than half our expenses because "only 2 of 4 bags were delayed for 2 days.." When I corrected them that 2 of 2 (all) bags were delayed for 3 days, they said that did not change their reimbursement calculation. I will avoid Iberia at all costs in the future and recommend everyone do the same.

Upon weighing the 3rd bag, the agent told us we would need to pay for it which I expected. What I didn't expect was that it would be $80! I later found out that bags are priced by weight, so the agent could have charged us for one of our lighter bags. I also found that we also could have openned up the app right there and paid another $15 for a 3rd bag. So I'm pissed that we got a sh!thead agent who knowingly charged us more than she had to. This is certainly cultural for the airline where they do not instill in their employees the need to take care of their customers best interests. Honestly I would probably fly them again if it was really cheap but only because I know better about their baggage scams and crappy customer service.

I had an issue with 2 carry-ons that complied with cabin baggage requirements, and even paid $25 each at the time of booking to check the bags in the hold (carry-ons were $15 each; I didn' care if I paid $10 too much). But they not only refused to let me carry them on, they charged another $130 (not a typo). The gate agent told me I could file a claim and get a refund, which turned out to be false. After weeks of trying to convince Customer Service that I paid for the bags to be in the hold -- and that's exactly where they put them -- they prevented me from talking with a supervisor, denied the claim, and refused to issue any refund or even partial credit for future travel. (You'd think that'd be a win-win, as I'd be spending more money with Vueling and give them a second chance.) Now, no way I'm flying Vueling again, and I'd caution you to avoid flying Vueling unless you're a glutton for punishment, hidden fees, and awful Customer Service.

You're able to bring on a personal item and carry on baggage (they also don't seem to weigh carry on bags, unlike budget carriers). Notably, as a SkyTeam elite member you get a free checked bag and seat selection for regular seats on a basic economy ticket. Pretty good benefits, when things go right. Well the drawbacks are that AirEuropa has been late on half of the flights I've been on, specifically the Madrid-Barcelona route on their Boeing 787 (Flight UX7703), which seems to have a bunch of mechanical problems. The times I've been on this route, it's been delayed due to mechanical issues. Other routes I've been on (Malaga, Lisbon, Frankfurt) are on their 737, and I haven't had as many issues with those flights (if any, a very minor 20-30min delay if any). When you factor flight time, going to the airport, security, and then add on top the delay, it's definitely faster taking the train vs flying MAD-BCN in the experiences I've had. Even though AirEuropa is considered a "main line" carrier, its domestic European routes do not include any amenities (eg no free snacks or drinks). But this is to be expected as it is part of the growing trend of lowering costs by the European air carriers, to be competitive with budget rivals like Easyjet, Ryanair, and Wizz. Now this begs the question? Would I fly with them again? Yes, but not on the Madrid-Barcelona 787 route. I don't recommend this route. I have had too many big delays on this route, that in the future I would prefer to avoid it. But other routes? Definitely, if the price is good.
