Air Europa operates their hub at MAD and as a Sky Team member who partners with Delta, Air France and KLM among others, they help to feed customers to and from those airlines to locations that only Air Europa serves for them. For this trip, which I paid a whopping $505, I flew Air Europa from New York to Madrid and onwards to Palma and then back to Madrid, with Delta picking up the last leg. The trip was A-OK. Nothing remarkable, just boring. Not comfortable, but not so uncomfortable that some Bose noise cancelling headphones and a few Advil wouldn't solve. I don't see myself flying them again on purpose, but I am really loving Spain so who knows?

With its name, Air Europa could be domiciled in any European country. However, its home is Madrid, Spain. From another review, I came to learn that this is Spain's 3rd carrier, after Iberia, the country's flag carrier, and Vueling. Because they cross the ocean to, at the very least, New York and Miami, I assumed they'd be Spain's second airline. However, Vueling has been around for quite a while, is a low cost carrier, has other hubs, such as one at Rome, and goes to a lot of places. Air Europa was surprisingly good. It made for a good discovery and a great way to start that day! I dislike Iberia, the flag carrier, and many Spaniards seem to dislike Iberia as well. Iberia may run on time and their aircraft are clean, but their indifferent in-cabin service is the worst I've experienced on any carrier and their food, when included in the fare, is vapid. I have flown them within Spain/Europe and to/from the U.S. As for Vueling, I've only flown on them once and the behavior of the in-cabin crew, who was young, was surprisingly correspondingly juvenile, even though the flight was unremarkable and operated on time. With Air Europa, everyone encountered at the gate, services at airport desks for tickets and questions, and on the aircraft, displayed a good deal of polish and affability. Air Europa operates out of the Terminal 1/2/3 complex at Madrid-Barajas. That's a demerit but it's not their fault. Iberia and their One World partners operate out of the newer and slicker Terminal 4. The older terminal is a series of interconnected linear buildings that can make for a ridiculously lengthy trek between gates and don't offer a lot of good food options. Air Europa seems to be expanding prudently and has a simple fleet scheme. They are part of Sky Team, the airline alliance headed up by Delta and Air France-KLM. They were, and are, flying long-haul with the Airbus 330, which is fine because of the 2-4-2 seating in economy, meaning you are never more than one seat from an aisle. However, they've bought into the Boeing 787 Dreamliner program. As such, what was to be a national flight within Spain must have had more demand than what the smaller Boeing 737 scheduled for that leg could handle and, instead, a beautiful shiny Boeing 787 was parked at the gate! Kudos to this aircraft for its economy, efficiency, noise baffling, and better ambient temperature and humidity control in the cabin. I also wanted to mention that, unlike Iberia, they offer more favorable one-way pricing schemes to make a singular point to point trip aboard them more feasible. So, with the combination of a great plane to ride on, an attentive staff, and a great fare, I would definitely be willing to fly on Air Europa again.

First time i used Air Europa and was actually happily surprised with the quality of the plane and service from Miami to Madrid. Somehow on the way back (madrid-miami) we are in the oldest plane possible. No tv's! For a 9 hours flight that is unacceptable. The person in front of me in laying on my lap as the seat is declined all the way back and there is no space. Seats uncomfortable! Not using this airline again if they keep on using these old beat up planes.

I have flow with AirEuropa about 5-6 times, all connecting through Madrid. I specifically chose them since they are a SkyTeam partner, and they offer pretty cheap fares. You're able to bring on a personal item and carry on baggage (they also don't seem to weigh carry on bags, unlike budget carriers). Notably, as a SkyTeam elite member you get a free checked bag and seat selection for regular seats on a basic economy ticket. Pretty good benefits, when things go right. Well the drawbacks are that AirEuropa has been late on half of the flights I've been on, specifically the Madrid-Barcelona route on their Boeing 787 (Flight UX7703), which seems to have a bunch of mechanical problems. The times I've been on this route, it's been delayed due to mechanical issues. Other routes I've been on (Malaga, Lisbon, Frankfurt) are on their 737, and I haven't had as many issues with those flights (if any, a very minor 20-30min delay if any). When you factor flight time, going to the airport, security, and then add on top the delay, it's definitely faster taking the train vs flying MAD-BCN in the experiences I've had. Even though AirEuropa is considered a "main line" carrier, its domestic European routes do not include any amenities (eg no free snacks or drinks). But this is to be expected as it is part of the growing trend of lowering costs by the European air carriers, to be competitive with budget rivals like Easyjet, Ryanair, and Wizz. Now this begs the question? Would I fly with them again? Yes, but not on the Madrid-Barcelona 787 route. I don't recommend this route. I have had too many big delays on this route, that in the future I would prefer to avoid it. But other routes? Definitely, if the price is good. read more

Absolute worst airline of my entire life !!! I would never recommend booking with them and i fully regret my experience. I would rather pay twice as much for the tickets than go through this experience again. terrible customer service and communication, over an extra $300 for baggage, the SMALLEST seats imaginable for international flights, food that was worse than a gas station, and on top of that all 4 flights were extremely HOT/no AC. I regret this booking so much. Completely ruined my engagement experience. DO NOT BOOK with air AirEuropa read more

Air Europa: Unacceptable Delay, Poor Conditions, and Empty Promises I recently endured one of the worst travel experiences with Air Europa on what should have been a simple 30-minute flight from Mallorca to Barcelona. Instead, we were subjected to a six-hour delay marked by mismanagement, inhumane conditions, and ultimately, false promises from the airline's customer service team. First, we boarded late--already at least one hour behind schedule--only to sit on the runway for over an hour in stifling heat, with no air conditioning. Passengers were visibly distressed, sweating profusely, and some began to feel physically ill. Only after this ordeal did the flight attendants finally begin offering water. Eventually, we were told to deplane and return to the terminal, where we waited for another two hours. We were reassured repeatedly by gate agents and customer service that a new plane was being prepared. When we boarded again, the exact same thing happened: more delays, more runway waiting, and yet another deplaning. Many passengers, myself included, missed critical connections, hotel bookings, and other reservations in Barcelona. Some travelers had to scramble to rebook flights entirely and had significant trouble retrieving their checked baggage. Throughout all of this, Air Europa staff promised that we would be financially compensated for the delay because it exceeded 5-6 hours. We were directed to file a claim on their website. I followed all instructions exactly--but received a dismissive rejection with no explanation and no compensation. It's clear now that these reassurances were intentional lies meant to pacify us in the moment. In the end, Air Europa took our money and left us with nothing but stress, wasted time, and unmet promises. Their replies were always excuses and empty platitudes. Multiple passengers report the same experience. Say what you will about low-cost carriers like Vueling or Ryanair--they may have a reputation for bare-bones service, but at least they're transparent about what you're getting. Air Europa hides behind polished branding and a premium image while delivering worse service and absolutely no accountability. Avoid this airline. Your time, health, and peace of mind are worth more. read more

From the beginning I figured I wasn't going to have a good experience. I wasn't able to pick my seats so I called them. Their customer service is horrible. They are rude & left me on hold forever so I had to hang up. I was supposed to pay $31 to pick my seat. Next thing u know I was booked on a seat that I didn't choose. However, it was a window seat so I went with it. When it came time to check in they charged me for the seat & the connecting flight's seat. I didn't check in & decided to check in at the airport. They asked for payment I said no I didn't pick those seats they let it go & that was the plus. And the person I had didn't charge for oversized luggage which was also a major plus. The 1st plain to Madrid from NY was disappointing. We were on the runway for an hour with NO AC. The bathrooms had no toilet tissue the food was not good. They came around a 2nd time to give coffee tea but if u wanted a soda you had to pay. I wasn't uncomfortable until about 4 hours into the flight as far as leg room so that was ƙ. The 2nd plane was horrible. No TV's, very old plane. Granted we were only on that flight for about an hour and a half but in that hour and a half they didn't even come around with free water. You had to pay for any snacks or drinks. I wouldn't recommend since I can't be sure what the experience will be. Mine wasn't a great one. read more
Aireuropa is the third largest airline in Spain after Iberia and Vueling. I recently flew from Alicante to Madrid with them. The ATR-72 aircraft is the smallest plane they have (4 of them in service according to Wikipedia), felt more like a bus. I don't remember when I was in such a small aircraft last time. It brought me from Alicante to Madrid smoothly. Very attentive and polite personnel. Some services are advertised on board but not actually offered on short distance flights (internet access and food). Forgot the price but it was really inexpensive. Current 2* rating seems unfair, will definitely fly with them again. read more
Contratar y to what I've been reading on these reviews, I had a very pleasant experience flying Air Europa. Check in was pretty straight forward and a breeze and my flight was pleasant, affordable price for a quick hop to Barcelona with one bag included and cheap drinks onboard read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would! Worst airline to fly ever, they don't even offer you water to drink on a 2 hour flight. The planes are all old, the staff are rude and all liars. They require you to wear masks in the plane but not in the airport and they don't even clean the planes between flights. They had us lined up down the passenger loading bridge waiting to board as the passengers on the flight before us were exiting the plane. When we asked the flight attendant if they had sanitized and cleaned the plane she looked us right in the eyes and lied and said yes even though clearly they didn't. There was crumbs on almost every seat, water rings, food and garbage on the fold up tray tables. Absolutely ridiculous, I wouldn't submit my worst enemies to the flight conditions of this airline. read more

Air Europa are criminals, the worst airline. We booked a flight to Switzerland through Madrid from Miami. We had to cancel due to some issues outside our choices and they told us that we can still reuse the tickets within one year, we would lose 20% of the tickets. Well after 9 months we were ready to book again and they are telling not any more. Will never use these people again. read more

First and last time trying out this airline , the AC was not working so it was way too hot to even sleep. This is one of the only airlines that doesn't let you check in 1 bag besides one carry on, I was traveling Europe for a month so this was an inconvenience had to pay 150$ for one extra bag and had to pay again to come back so that's an extra 300$ just to make a round trip. The service was not very pleasant and the staff was not helpful even looked annoyed when we asked for water the plane seemed old and had low quality tv's for a 9hour international flight. This company charges you for everything even an extra pair of headphones. I have tried United , American Airlines , Latam, Spirit and I can honestly say this airline doesn't compare to any of them air Europa is cheap for a good reason ! read more

Horrible service Huge lines the one of the worse companies ever with the worse customer services!!!!!

Well I have to say officially that this is the worst airline i have ever used in my entire life. For starters the fact that the palne was on the tarmac in madrid behind schedule for 40 minutes was not pleasant given the fact that it was 100 degrees outside and the AC was not working!!!!!! Now they got it going and we take off so one looks for releif and then again no legroom literally 6 inches of space so u have to recline to breathe well. Now my screen in front of me shut off and stopped working when it was time for the meal they had run out of chicken. To make everything even better a peice of luggage never made it to New York and the company never responded. I have taken chicken buses through North Africa and had better service. read more

Air Europa has service from Miami to Madrid with a connecting flight to Gatwick and also operates tour services between northern and western Europe and holiday resorts in the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands. It also operates domestic scheduled services and long-haul scheduled services to North America and South America. I needed to do a little business in Madrid and then wanted to unwind in the Cotswolds so this airline provided a connection that was perfect for me. The flight was really reasonable (I think $700 or so) so I upgraded to Premier Economy for only $150 more. It all went well and the staff was wonderful and spoke in Spanish in proper Spanish so I could understand what they were saying. The seating arrangements are great. They are much more like Business class on Britair with all the OX cognac I could consume, wine, soft drinks, pillows, blankets, wide seats (2X2), personal movie screen in the seat, a welcome package with toothbrush, paste, towels, eyeshades (which I am still wearing because they are so comfortable) shoe bad, socks etc. The seat reclined way back and I slept most of the way after a perfectly OK dinner. This experience was far better than anything I was expecting. I will examine their destinations and fly with them again if they are going my way. read more

Daytime robbery. Air Europa's customer service is a money-stealing scheme. To change the dates of 2 flight tickets, I had to spend no less than £39 (45ish euros) on what turned out to be the most expensive phone service I have ever used in my entire life. For that same amount of money, I could have bought for example one of their London - Madrid flights. They keep transferring you unnecessarily from person to person and they put you on hold for approximately 3/4 of your call time, if not more. Utterly revolting. Air Europa doesn't offer you any other possibility of changing the dates on an existing booking (website, app, etc). In addition to the penalty I had to pay for changing those dates, the prices of my new flights (over the phone) were also up to £90 (105€ more or less) more expensive than the prices shown on their website. I made an online complaint about being overcharged in such an unacceptable way, but I haven't heard anything back from them: no apologies, no explanations, no consideration whatsoever, just nothing. They couldn't care less about providing a positive customer experience. All they've proved to care about is to shamelessly rip travellers off no matter what. read more

We booked a flight from Malaga to Madrid through American Express Platinum, and our experience with Air Europa was extremely disappointing. Their website would not allow us to check in online, and when we arrived at the airport, the clerk at the counter told us that because we hadn't checked in online, we were now considered standby passengers. This directly contradicted their own policy, which clearly states that checking in online is not required to secure seats. To make matters worse, the clerk's attitude was rude and unprofessional toward both me and my family. The treatment we received was dismissive and snarky, setting an utterly negative tone for our travel experience. Despite booking our tickets two months in advance, we were left uncertain whether we would even be allowed on our flight. They negligently overbooked this flight 5036. On top of this, we were charged a shocking $180 for three bags, adding even more frustration to an already terrible experience. I have never experienced such poor customer service with an airline. Based on this ordeal, I will NEVER fly with Air Europa again and strongly caution other travelers to think twice before booking with them. read more

Nov 14, 2018 11:51am Worst of the Worst! Be careful when booking air-travel with them and Expedia. You might think you are getting a good deal, until you get to the airport and are surprised with a $150 US dollar baggage fee from the airline for your first bag. Expedia does not disclose baggage fees prior to purchasing your airfare. Air Europa has a baggage fee of $100-$150 US dollars for first bag, and you do not know until you get to the airport. The only choice you have when you get to the airport if you do not have the money for the fee, is either leave your baggage, or lose your flight! My mom had to call me from the airport to go online and pay for the baggage fee. Online it is$100, at the airport they charge $150 US dollars! My mother had another passenger next to her, who had to loose the fligh because the poor lady did not have the $$ to cover the $150 fee. Horrible service from both! They clean their hands saying, "it is stated in your confirmation email" what good is it on the confirmation email, after you purchase the fare! -- with Georgia Parra. read more
