Great customer service and food! We stopped here on a Sunday to have our anniversary dinner and we were very happy we did. The vibe here is intimate which is perfect for couples or groups celebrating a special event. There is a cool bar area where you can order fancy libations. As far as the food...everything tasted delicious and was well cooked. We ordered the calamari appetizer and we thought it was a 4/5. I am only docking a point because it was slightly too salty and some of the octopi were slightly overcooked/chewy. We had the soup of the day which was fantastic paired with bread. I ordered the lobster tail with the 6 oz filet mignon and both the lobster and filet were cooked to perfection!! Our sides were mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts which tasted delicious. Another great happy hour! Our server Tanisa was so friendly, helpful, and fun. We tried the loaded hash browns for the first time, and they were excellent. I got the happy hour steak salad. The meat and mushrooms portions were very fair for the price. The meat was cooked as ordered, but the marinade was very sweet and a few of the pieces were gristly. They seem to have too many people doing specific tasks at your table and there seems to be no point person that carries thru with needs or special requests. I just wanted a good night out with family .... And a good steak. RC did not disappoint. Our server was outstanding. The meals were all just great-tasting. The calamari was amazing! The sides were packed with flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed my peppercorn encrusted filet. My wife's filet was overcooked. They quickly resolved the issue, promptly presenting her with a new filet. The manager also stopped by our table, expressed his concern about the overcooked steak. Overall, it was a wonderful dinner experience. Sitting by the fire on a winter day also added to it. This was our first time at Ruth's Chris and it exceeded all of our expectations. The ambiance was very nice with dim lighting and a very clean and organized dining area. The steak, au gratin potatoes, and asparagus were delicious as well as the cheesecake for dessert. Our server Wilton was kind and took time to check on us frequently and make our visit special. Thin fries are not served with any Happy Hour deal but they do serve handcut fries. All in all, I wish for the days of old. Not many working ever know the deals and offers. The 2 lobster tails + upgrade to ribeye is usually an annual offer and a steal. Not tonight. Only filets. Stuffed chicken breast is something I'll recommend. After receiving a gift card, we decided to check out this steak house. I highly recommend coming during happy hour to save some money. The prices online are a bit different than the costs at the restaurant, but pretty close. Hands down, the drinks are amazing! I tried the blueberry mojito (a must!) and the margarita, which was also excellent. The shrimp appetizer is delicious! We didn't love the goat cheese artichoke dip and the burger was pretty typical. It was my first time going here and I had the bone in filet. It was really good, but for $77, you would think that salads and sides would not be extra. I was there with my friend for her birthday. They did give her a teeny little adorable cheesecake with "happy birthday" written on the plate. In addition to the steak, I had hashbrowns and creamed spinach. The hashbrowns were quite good but the creamed spinach was a little lackluster. I mean, I know we're talking creamed spinach here, but a little salt would've gone a long way. Added another Ruth's Chris location to my list tonight! Always enjoy coming to these restaurants because the food is generally high quality and very consistent. We got filet mignon's which come served on their 500° plates so watch your fingers! Filets we're full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I recommend getting them butterflied if you prefer them on the well/medium well side. For sides we got the chili Mac & Cheese and au gratin potatoes. Let me tell you...the chili Mac & Cheese was OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. I've never had this before but it seriously was delicious. Hint of spice went so well with the dish. Au gratin potatoes were alright as they weren't as creamy as usually. Appetizers were the calamari and veal spinach raviolis. Also new items we tried which were very good also. Calamari had a Asian sweet and sour sauce on top which I've never had with calamari so it was interesting but still good. Service was a little slow but they were still very accommodating. Our server was very friendly and clearly assigned to several tables so not a big deal just an FYI. Overall great experience and such a nicer location than the others I've been too!! read more

We went there yesterday with my wife to celebrate her birthday. We already had a reservation. The guy at the reception made fun of my last name.and then he laughed at my last name and then showed my last name to other customers and tried to get them involved with his attempt to mock my last name . I felt really really insulted by his actions. I don't know if it's his lack of cultural awareness or something else .while I understand my last name is little hard to pronounce, I didn't ask him to pronounce it if he couldn't do it. But he laughed loudly about my last name and showed it to other customers like it was so funny about my last name. The server was very good and she was very nice and helpful. Listen, I'm from Texas so maybe I'm used to superior cuts/cooking methods. I ordered a ribeye ($70 not including sides and such) I know I'm in Wisconsin so I wasn't expecting anything crazy, but It was barely even edible. The steak had zero seasoning and zero sear. To be honest, it looked like it was boiled. They even keep salt and pepper on the tables because it lacks in flavor on every single level. Potato's are good. Bread tastes like it's made in house. But it's a STEAKHOUSE so it's all about the meat. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. Just go to Arby's if your torn. read more

My girlfriend and I went last night for happy hour! Besides the place being a bit dark it was overall pretty good! The drinks are pretty large and well made. My steak sandwich was very good, but my girlfriend's burger tasted a little different and we made mention to the server. The manager came and spoke to us and explained what they do and it helped clear things up and gave us a discount on that. His name is Lee, he was very nice and respectful and we appreciated his understanding. Recommend for a very nice dinner or a busy happy hour. It's a chain restaurant, so what, who cares. The food and service was excellent. One of the few remaining steak places left in Madison with a very nice bar and pleasant surroundings. This is my favorite restaurant in Madison by far. The food is soooo good and the service is impeccable. They will sometimes have live music playing as well and it creates an amazing atmosphere which is so fun to be a part of. The sides were all great and steak was super delicious. Very good medium rare filet mignon. I would NOT recommend the horseradish crust. I came here for a work dinner. The Brussels sprouts were greasy and underwhelming. The chop salad was not good. The seared ahi tuna was excellent and calamari was good. Took hubby here tonight for his birthday. This was our first visit, but it most certainly will not be our last. Now, let me start by saying this place is insanely expensive. It was close to $250 for the two of us, including tip. BUT - it is also insanely delicious! When we sat down, they had sprinkled little happy birthday glitter things on the table. Nice touch, and it made hubby happy! We had the calamari for our appetizer. SO GOOD! Perfectly crunchy on the outside, and tender on the inside. Not overcooked at all. The sweet chili sauce they toss it in is also delicious. I got the petite filet and asparagus, and hubbs got the filet and creamed spinach. Man, those steaks were like butter. Absolutely fabulous! No room for dessert, but our waiter slipped a birthday dessert into our doggy bag for my husband, no charge. Pretty cool! We highly recommend this restaurant, and are already talking about returning in September for our Anniversary dinner! I saw someone leave a review about the splattery plate. This review covers a higher end steakhouse and how it compares to others in the same class. To add some weight to this review a short list of some similar restaurants I've dinned- Oceanaire The Seadfood Room Minneapolis, Salty's on the Columbia in Portland Oregon, Charlies Steakhouse Orlando, Mortons - multiple cities, Manny's Steakhouse Minneapolis, The Capitol Grille - multiples cities and the list goes on... This was my first visit to Ruth Cris... I was greeted at the door with some friendly faces and welcoming conversation. We had a reservation and they seated us quickly in a booth which we requested. We were greeted at the table promptly. I was ordered a Coke along with the rest of the table while looking at the wine list. Three people were given their drinks and I was left with nothing. After driving for several hours I really felt like a drink and the water I was given was already gone. Several minutes later I finally got to request my Coke again. It took a while and finally my coke arrived. I'll cover this now but refills were very slow. We ordered a small seafood tower and asked for a salad to come out at the same time for someone who wasn't eating seafood. The seafood tower came out but no salad for several minute. We asked where the salad was and we were told it was coming. Now for the seafood tower....I have eaten at a lot of higher end restaurants similar in the class of Ruth Cris and this seafood tower was tasteless. I've had at least 1,2,3+ seafood towers at all of the restaurants I listed earlier and this and this seafood tower came in dead last by far! It may have been worth the $59 if it tasted awesome but I wouldn't have paid $10 for it at Costco. The main course I had were lamb chops which were cooked to order. They were a little fatty on some portions. Some of the lamb was just ok and other parts had some great flavour. That being said I have had much better lamb chops (Romanza Restaurant - Pepper Mill Casino Reno) for less, $39. We had some potato wedges/skins of some sort as a side and they did taste nice. We also had asparagus. I can cook it perfectly at home so it tastes amazing. This was well hard on the roots end and spongy and soggy at the tips. It was very stringy in the middle. We could not eat it by just chewing it. Each piece had to be chopped up so you could chew it a little and swallow it. Dessert was very nice but very small. I had the small chocolate molten cake which came with a side of whipped cream on top of some chocolate moose. Honestly, I should have just skipped all of dinner and had dessert as it was by far the nicest thing I had on the menu during my experience. Of all the times I've dinned at higher end steakhouses I had never been to Ruth Cris. I'm not sure I would even come back. It was a less than average experience. If you're looking for the BEST place in Madison to dine at in the way of steak, wine with some seafood Johnny Delmonico's wins hands down. I wouldn't even think about coming to this restaurant. This was without a doubt the most disappointing experience of any Ruth's Chris I've ever been to. My first filet was a sad, scrap cut ordered medium rare and came out medium well to well. They offered to replace it and 25 minutes later I had another sad cut of meat, but grilled correctly. This location used to be on point when it first open, but the last three times I've visited, the steaks have been cut terrible and not what I would expect from a prime quality steakhouse. Service was slow and average. Also, there were mosquitoes indoors at the bar biting us. I'm down be with this location and will only enjoy Ruth's Chris when I travel now. read more

I can understand why it would be popular in areas of the United States where beef is a little hard to come by, but in Wisconsin...it's an overpriced and under-delivering experience. There are at least 25 places in the Madison area where you can get a steak that's better and at about half to 2/3rds of the price AND support your local economy instead of a chain feeding off of the corporate welfare teat. It was my birthday! My folks took me out to celebrate and I was not disappointed. Yes the prices are high, yes it's higher class, but also yes the standards are there! My steak was one of the best I've ever had, the sides were not a disappointment, and the servers were very polite, but mild mannered. The thing about Ruth's is it's consistency wherever you visit. This was off. In the days of being patient it's easy to get a little frustrated so you have to sit back and relax before you charge off with issues. Ordered a salad to split and after a lengthy wait of 25-30 minutes or entrees show. Mentioned it to our waiter and it still didn't arrive. Ok. Fine. He was a bit flustered during the entire dinner so it is what it is. Steak was perfect per the norm. Service was just a little off. Give it a shot though. Just be patient. read more

I first rated Ruth's Chris a couple years ago. I didnt understand one bit why it was well rated, as that particular meal was a sea of salt served on a plate. Since then , I have had a few friends ask me to join them at Ruth's Chris. At first, I begrudgingly agreed to go. After the first revisit, I have visited a few times and realized my original visit was a poor roll of dice. I've had ribeyes and bone-in filets. The meats are advertised prime, and they taste prime: tender and juicy. Perfectly cooked every time. The sides are also very enjoyable. We got the lobster mac and cheese multiple times, impressed by the depths of flavor and the subtle taste of a chopped up green chili. The service is always good as well. This is one of those times where I am glad I gave a restaurant a second shot. I would give them four stars if my first visit wasn't so poor. read more
