I started seeing Dr Cousineau in 2019 and she delivered my 2nd baby. My first son's birth was so different and i had some anxiety and a little bit of ptsd from a previous doc. Dr Cousineau made sure it was the best experience. She is kind, thoughtful and the best human and doctor. She makes you feel as if she cares about you and your overall health and wellness. so grateful for her! read more

I usually don't write super personal things about myself in yelp reviews, but after dealing with serious health concerns I now think it's important that patients warn other patients about toxic doctor behavior. I was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago and unfortunately dr. Cousineau was the gyno who had to break the news. I'm not even mad about the fact that I had a hard time getting Cousineau to properly put in the order for my first mammogram at Cedars because she thought they were "just being fussy," because I was "too young" to have breast cancer. Nope. What I'm really bothered by is her bedside manner when she told me the news. Understandably I started crying (softly) on the phone, to which Cousineau replied, in an irritated tone, "okay." Really? Sorry that you're annoyed that I'm being emotional about being diagnosed with cancer. As other reviews have mentioned, she's rude and lacks empathy in a really disturbing way. read more

Same complaints as others. Too many patients, not enough care to go around. I've been waiting for an ultra sound result that I had to ask my other doctors to recover it - never got a call back from the doctor. There is one office staff person who is determining what gets through to the doctor. This is unacceptable. read more

This doctor is very dangerous and I would advise against using her is you are pregnant. Here's what happened to me during my pregnancy- My pregnancy was uncomplicated and the baby was healthy the entire time. In the last week of my pregnancy (week 39), my fluid level was close to the levels considered low, but was not within the range defined as a low fluid level. At that point, Dr. Cousineau informed me that she would only continue to provide care if I scheduled a c-section or induction. The doctor that I visited for a second opinion disagreed, but did not do deliveries and so I felt I had no option except to schedule an induction. I went into the hospital to be induced on my due date. They administered pitocin every 30-minutes. I immediately became severely nauseous (pitocin is a strong drug) and I needed an epidural. Dr. Cousineau was not in contact with me during this process. The midwife that was responsible for monitoring my progress called Dr. Cousineau and reported to me that Dr. Cousineau told her, "not to check me and to leave me alone for a while because it would take me a long time to become sufficiently dilated." The nurse and midwife never checked me. After some time passed the baby's heart rate "crashed" (this is literally what the nurse said as she ran into my room) and about 10 people rushed into the room. The baby's heart rate was only slightly above 40 bpm. At that point, the midwife checked me and the baby's head was less than an inch from crowning. They rushed me to the operating room and I had a c-section. I am very grateful that my baby is healthy now. But, I feel that my baby and I could have been seriously injured as a result of Dr. Cousineau's poor judgment and callousness. Not only was she aggressive in letting me know (at 39 weeks) that I no longer had control over how I would deliver my baby, but once I was induced, she was negligent in providing oversight of my labor. The risk to my baby's life and the trauma that caused us as a family was the worst part of this experience, however, Dr. Cousineau did much more. In my 8th month, I brought in a labor and delivery plan to my appointment with her. She refused, literally refused, to take it or discuss it. She said we would discuss it "later" but never allowed that discussion. I brought my labor and delivery plan to the hospital with me when I was induced. It was very simple, and it included my desire not to have students or residents deliver the baby or conduct my surgery if a c-section was required. Fast forward to the emergency c-section- Dr. Cousineau performed the initial operation and delivered the baby and *then* had a resident complete the surgery to close me up. How do I know this? It's not because I was asked or informed of it but because I overheard it. As the emergency team was checking my newly delivered baby I overheard Dr. Cousineau coaching someone in how to close me up. I did not consent to that. Dr. Cousineau does not care about her patients. However, in the first several months of your pregnancy that may not be obvious to you- it wasn't obvious to me. In fact, she was very friendly. The first signs I had of a problem was at month 8 when she refused to receive or discuss my birth plan. I'm writing this 1.5 years after my delivery and I'm still feeling the effects of her poor care. read more

Dr. Cousineau was my provider when I was pregnant with mono-di (high-risk, sharing-a-placenta) twins. She made multiple good judgement calls and recommendations throughout my pregnancy. I didn't even need to be hospitalized during my pregnancy asides from being admitted once to a hospital only for the actual birth. In 2015, she delivered my twins the natural way accompanied with an epidural at MY OWN request (not hers) without the need for a c-section procedure. Some providers would coach their patients for unnecessary c-section and/or even push for an epidural to speed things up to go home, but not Dr. Cousineau. She even cancelled her other appointments to make it in time around the moment when I was delivering. Everything happened so fast and I was glad Dr. Cousineau was so dedicated to delivering my twins. My twins were delivered at 37 weeks. My twins and I were healthy and still are under her care. She was so kind, gentle and knowledgeable throughout my pregnancy, delivery and post delivery. Any women would be extremely fortunate to have Dr. Cousineau look after them. She is very honest and she cuts to the chase, which are qualities that I appreciate in a provider. Dr. Cousineau is very respected in the community and she has a reputation for being very knowledgeable and is very good at what she does. I have ran into other women who were under her care and they remained very happy and had nothing but good things to say about Dr. Cousineau. Even now when I told other healthcare providers including nurses, doulas, lactation consultants that Dr. Cousineau never coached me into getting a c-section for my twin delivery, they were all shocked as nowadays c-section is very common for multiple birth and most physicians would just resort to that method to speed things up without a just cause. read more

Dr Cousineau has been the best Gynecologist hands down. I have gone to other Drs and I feel that she really knew what she was doing. Always felt safe and knew I was in great hands. I started seeing her in my early 20's and now I'm in my early 50's and just saw a new gynecologist and just don't get a good feeling with her. I really need to go back and see what I need to do because I'm crazy!!! read more

Wow, wow wow! She is so friendly and smart! I recently had surgery and she was very kind, and told me to ask my hematologist questions that I didn't even think about. She is busy and I had to book my appointment about two months out but she is worth it. We sat in her office and she answered all my questions and concerns. The yearly physical was a breeze and she explained everything she was doing. Happy I found her! read more

She should have 0 zero stars! This woman ruined my life as well as my son's life, whom she delivered. I was 25 at the time, and this was my first pregnancy. All 9 months I NEVER felt she was personable or caring. She scheduled me for the hospital to induce labor, claiming the baby was late. Turns out, even with her drugs I never went into labor. She had to physically break my water, after about 12 hours. Even then I still had no contractions. After pushing for about 20 hours, she claimed I might need a c section! After pushing for 12 hours!? Instead, she used forceps to grab my baby and force him out. Bottom line, this baby was not anywhere near ready to be born. Obviously, her predicted due date was wrong, and I should have waited for a natural progression of labor! She forced my child out too early, fractured his skull with her forceps, and left him damaged for life! He spent 5 days in th NICU, not coming home with me. The nightmare only got worse from there. My son has developmental delays, needed speech and occupational therapies, and was in special ed all his life. During the time of utter devastation, after having just given birth to a baby who then was whisked away, that woman never came by to check on him. She never showed one ounce of care or compassion for what happened and what we were going through. And she certainly showed NO compassion for our infant who she damaged for life. I'm utterly devastated and sorry we did not sue her for malpractice. But my husband and I were so overwhelmed and upset that he didn't want to go that route. She failed me as a Dr. She was in a hurry, I think she wanted to go out of town, and that's why she "scheduled" my labor. I tell every woman who is pregnant, "do not let your dr. induce labor!" I don't wish my nightmare on anyone. She's horrible as far as I'm concerned. We should have sued. My son will never be whole. read more

I have been with Ruth since she took over the practice. I find that the office became more like a factory. I have had appts canceled because of her having to deliver. I could accept that, but when I came for an appt. and was told that I didn't have one, i was furious. on my last appt. I felt that she is changed, cold to the point and looking at her watch. I found this offensive. read more

I am very pleased with Dr. Cousineau. She is very smart, attentive and warm. I am glad to have found her.

Dr. Ruth Cousineau delivered my first pregnancy which unfortunately was a still birth. She is very knowledgeable and did a great job during my delivery as I didn't tear and physically healed pretty quickly. I am giving her a not so great review because she lacks patience and her bedside manner isn't the best. This was my first pregnancy and naturally I had a lot of questions. Plus I had a very difficult pregnancy. She was super impatient and would get very irritated with any questions. Furthermore, throughout my pregnancy I expressed that I was having a difficult time physically, I wasn't well and could not work a full 80hr week especially with my Job which required me to sit for long periods of time and a tremendous amount of driving. She was very difficult in granting me time off when it was clear I wasn't well and neither was my baby. Fast forward after delivery, I sent her an email telling her that my husband and I wanted a meeting with her to go over the autopsy results of the baby. We both had questions, naturally!! She never responded to my email. 6 weeks after delivery I told her I need more time to heal. I'm not ready to go back to work yet. She said "I can't grant you time off because physically you are well, there's nothing wrong with you" are you kidding me? I lost my baby and went through nine months of pregnancy, how could there be nothing wrong with me? This was almost 2 years ago. I decided to write this review now because it still bothers me how she handled my situation. Although I moved on and I'm well, I want other expecting moms to know my experience so that they can make a better choice for themselves. read more

Great bedside manner, takes ALL the time you need and more; explains everything calmly, completely, and with sensitivity. I have been a patient of Dr. Cousineau's for a very long time and she is consistently excellent in all respects. She delivered my younger child 12 years ago and I continue to see her now for my peri-menopausal concerns. Contrary to some other reviewers here, I see no decline in the way this office is run. I feel I get personal and kind attention in a warm and professional atmosphere. And I tend to hate everybody! read more

I absolutely adore Dr. Cousineau. She has been my OB/GYN for about 15 years now. She delivered both my children and my delivery was wonderful both times around. She is caring, attentive and has a great bedside manner. Even now that I'm only coming in for annual checkups, she takes all the time I need with her. Yes, her office is too busy, but once you get in the room, you don't feel rushed. The fact is that their office is only so busy because the practice is so good. It's worth the wait time to get an appointment. She will be my doctor until she retires, which I hope isn't for a very long time! read more

I went to Dr. Cousineau after being referred to her by a friend after being treated horribly by my first OB Dr. Wilson (that I had been seeing since for over 15 years!) Dr. Cousineau is simply AMAZING! She delivered both of my children and did an amazing job. I had 1 tear with my daughter and no tears with my son (who was much larger and took much more time to deliver). She is calm, collected and extremely skilled, even gifted in what she does. A lot of the complaints are regarding wait-times for her office and that she spreads herself too thin. I bet if she took on less patients (and thereby cut down wait times), the whiners would be complaining that she doesn't take new patients or only caters to celebrities. In the three years that I have known her I have waited anywhere between 10-60 mins to be seen. The 1 hour waits were far and few between. People do realize that she is an OB right? That she might be delivering a baby during at the exact same time your precious pap was scheduled? Or dealing with someone who is having pre-term labor or other serious issues? In fact, the office has been great about calling me in advance to let me know that Dr. C will be in an emergency or delivering during my appointment and allow me to reschedule before I waste my time going to the office. If she's late, she always apologizes. During appointments, I have never felt rushed and felt that I could ask her all my anxiety-ridden first-time mom questions. Isn't that what people want in an OB who will eventually deliver their baby? I don't want to be rushed through my appointment just so she could keep on schedule. From my own experience with two non-complicated pregnancies and deliveries, she is very knowledgeable and professional. I cannot speak to her knowledge on more difficult cases, but I would venture to guess that since she has had 30 plus years of experience, she knows what she is doing. As for the actual delivery, she is amazing. During my first labor which lasted over 30 hours, she came in multiple times during the 2.5 days I was in the hospital to check on me. And even though my water had been broken for over 24 hours (a hallmark standard for declaring an emergency C-section) she NEVER EVER once mentioned the C-word. She really guided me on how to correctly push and was firm yet calm in her technique. She was the same way with my second delivery. I could also truly feel the pride and joy she takes in her work and how happy she truly felt for me when I had both of my babies. She also made me feel very empowered in my capability to deliver each baby whenever I expressed self-doubt. Although I am not planning to have any more children, if I ever did, I would 100% go back to Dr. C. read more

I was originally recommended to Ruth upon first moving to LA in '97 but I couldn't get in because she was in such high demand...so I ended up with her associate, Dr. Clara Vogel (now practicing in Santa Monica on SM Blvd. somewhere and very GOOD as well!) Anyway...Dr. Vogel switched locations and after five or so years of going to HER, I decided to stay with my office and I finally got in with Ruth! lol What comes around I guess. She's a rockstar...very nice, gentle, concerned, always calls you with followups. I even had a lump scare (turned out to be too much caffeine...watch your coffe intake girls and don't back your pill up to avoid a period in addition...weird things happen lol)...she assured me it was prob. nuthin' but sent me in for a mammogram and an ultrasound as a precaution based on family history...which, I think is friggin' awesome! Most doc's will do nuthin' unless they believe it's dire. She's also called me back while i've been on vacation AND has squeezed me in last minute. FANTASTIC OBGYN!! read more

I began going to Dr. Ruth Cousineau in 1973-4, just after she replaced Dr. Ben Tuch, the surgeon who performed my hysterectomy. She's a lovely woman, and a wonderful doctor, who really knows her stuff. The missing star is primarily due to communication with office staff. I had a recommended needle biopsy on a Thursday. I called Friday for results. I was told she returned calls at 5 p.m. I started calling again at 4:30 in order to catch her in time. Same story. I called at 5 o'clock. Office closed. I had to wait until 5 p.m. MONDAY to find out that I had breast cancer. For that reason only (and I think it's a pretty big reason) I can give only 4 stars. read more

OK, wait times do run long at times; however, Dr. Cousineau is one of the kindest, calmest and thorough doctors out there. Her office staff is also outstanding, very friendly both over the phone and in person. I can be very picky, and will tell you that if you can deal with a long wait at times (it's only once a year, right?) (if you're not pregnant!) - - I'd highly recommend Dr. Cousineau. (I've heard excellent things about the other doctors there as well.) read more

I absolutely love her! I went in for my first time yesterday and could not have asked for a better experience. She is professional and knowledgable, but also nurturing and loving. In the past, I've had trouble finding an obgyn that I found to be able to balance the two, but she is exactly that. She even came in the room with me during my ultrasound because I was there alone and she knew I had concerns. Absolutely loved her and already scheduled my next apt. Definitely recommend. read more

Dr. Cousineau is the best, period. She is kind, knowledgable, calming, thorough, and patient. She gives it to you straight and is firm and cautious, but never alarming. She always makes time for me, whether it is calling back after hours to follow up, or spending an extra ten minutes with me to answer my questions. I trust her completely because not only is she experienced, she has taken the time to get to know me, so I trust that her recommendations are based on what she genuinely thinks is best for me as an individual. Yes, you will have to wait sometimes. And if you are not an OB patient, I assume its hard to get an appointment. But that is the price to pay for a doctor who doesn't rush, and who can fit in patients who unexpectedly need to come 3x a week. read more

First visit today with Dr Cousineau. She was very kind and attentive. Looking forward to continuing to follow with her.

While I understand people have different opinions, there is no way Dr. Cousineau should be averaging 3 1/2 stars. I don't think it's fair to rate her based on wait times or appointment availability. The reality is, if someone is very good, then a lot of people will want to see her . . . hence the wait times and far-out appointments. But, I will note that, for my prenatal appointments, I did not have to deal with either of those annoyances at all. Dr. Cousineau delivered my one and only child. I was nowhere near the champ I thought I would be, (I asked them to "up" the epidural at least once). And I sucked at pushing. Despite my shortcomings, Dr. Cousineau was able to avoid an emergency C-section with the use of forceps. I've heard they can be risky because "newer" practitioners are not well-trained in their use; luckily Dr. Cousineau does not fall into that camp. Using the forceps, she popped out the baby within seconds. Bonus: the baby's head was not misshapen at all. read more

I've been a patient of Ruth's since she began her practice. She was a former neighbor when she was in Med school. I've always been impressed by her calm and gentle manner, but lately, I've had so many problems with her practice that I finally just had to leave. First off, she's taken on far too many patients. It's difficult to get an appointment with her (AND, if you have an emergency and need to see A doctor, they will not give you an appointment with one of the other doctors in the practice if your doctor is actually there - when they started spouting this b.s. to me, I just called the office manager, who's a friend, and got scheduled with another doctor that afternoon, and when confronted with this "policy" they denied it!!) So obviously, there's a total lack of communication among front and back office staff. Another problem is that they concentrate the practice solely on obstetrics - hat's off to them, since so few do these days because of malpractice insurance rates, but those of us who are past that stage and are more worried about per-menopause and menopause issues are left out in the cold, as they really don't keep up with developments in that area at all. Recently, her nurse practitioner failed to correctly diagnose a UTI and prescribed some homeopathic remedy to balance my "flora", to which I was allergic. I wound up in Urgent Care on Memorial Day, where they gave me an antibiotic I was also allergic to, and it was 2 days before Ruth would even give her office manager permission to order me a new drug!!!!! The final straw was that I was having some symptoms that I thought should be checked, and I called the office at about 4:45 on a Friday afternoon to make an appointment for the following week. The person answering the phone responded to my statement that I was calling to make an appointment with "It's FRIDAY!!!" in a tone of absolute outrage and disbelief. I said I didn't expect to get an appointment right that very moment, and she put me on hold. No one picked up. Finally at 4:55 I called back and - you guessed it - the switchboard was closed for the weekend. So on Monday, I called -- and made an appointment with an entirely different doctor. Wait times in the waiting room jam-packed with moms and screaming kids are outrageous - matched only by the wait times in the exam rooms. And God help you if a celebrity walks in - late - for her own appointment. She'll be whisked right in ahead of you, and given every attention and royal treatment until you actually put your clothes back on and threaten to leave - THEN they'll send Ruth in to see you. A few years ago, I would have given 5 stars, now I wish they had a "zero star" rating. read more

I was a huge fan of Dr. Cousineau's for at least five years, but in the last two years I've become very frustrated because my calls are not being returned. Believe me, I am not one of those people who calls with every little question that comes up; far from it. If anything I run to the opposite extreme. Which makes me very upset that my two calls in the last ten days to report ongoing, unusual bleeding have gone unreturned still. To this day I have not received a return call. I am so disappointed. My gut feeling that she has taken on too many clients is, I think, dead-on. Well, she will now have room for one more as I am switching to a doctor who has time for me. read more

She was enthusiastically recommended by many friends, but after having her deliver my third child, I can say I was very disappointed in her. I don't want to write a very long detailed description of every moment and every word uttered, but I will say that while she is clearly experienced and knowledgable, she can be cold, clinical and unsympathetic in moments when a woman is very vulnerable emotionally. Since it was my third child, I had some perspective on the experience, but I knew after my daughter was born that I couldn't ever go back to this doctor. Another doctor in the practice is very popular and well liked -- Dr. Suzanne Gilberg Lenz, and I know many people who lover her. I would go to her myself, but it's too awkward to return to that practice at this point. read more

I have only good things to say about Dr Cousineau...the doctor and woman. Kind, good and personable. BUT, try to get an annual exam appointment...or any other appointment that isn't an emergency and GOOD LUCK! She is liked by the entire world too! Takes 6 months to even get an annual check up with her, and I've been with her for a decade. My ten years means nothing there.. Their staff offers her Nurse to do all that " everyday" stuff but she is not a medical doctor. She is nice as well just not my doctor. Also the staff told me she is still taking new patients even though she can't seem to find time for 6 months to see her old ones...that makes NO sense. Everyone who works there is nice, just extremely busy and only getting busier. You are not allowed to even leave a voicemail on their machine during lunch hours unless it's a dire emergency. Sadly I am leaving this doctor...I prefer to be in a place where the wait time isn't 6 months and they care about me as a person not just some random number... read more

I've been with Dr. Cousineau for three years and I wouldn't want to switch for anything in the world. Coming from Brooklyn where we stick with our healthcare providers for most of our lives, it was reassuring to find someone as indispensable as Dr. Cousineau. First of all the office is clean and can be discreet to meet the needs of various clientele who may prefer anonymity or an extra sense of privacy. All of the professionals here are the elite of the elite (and I'm not just sayin that...pls google all of their credentials) and in my experience treat all patients with the upmost professionalism, compassion, and humility. In my own experience, I can contest that having had two miscarriages Dr. Cousineau went above and beyond personally to communicate with me through my pregnancy. She was even out on vacation during my delivery, but Dr. Gilberg-Lenz filled in and was amazing. Any doctor at their practice is excellent and so nice and I'm not kidding they actually 'care'. I've read some of reviews that seem to be a little biased and downright whiny. You want the best then pick woman's care of Beverly Hills--that's my recommendation. read more

I've never written one of these, but i've been a patient of dr. gilberg lenz's office for maybe 10 years now. LIke everyone else says, the wait time for an appt is beyond ridiculous, and the wait time once you arrive is equally ridiculous. Honestly, these kind of things are not as important as having a doctor you trust. I like dr. gilberg-lenz. Some of the staff is very nice as well. She pays attention, remembers details, etc. 3 times in this 10 years I had to deal with 2 other doctors and a nurse practitioner in the office. There is a male doctor who I dealt with and absolutely loved. He made me comfortable and was non judgemental. He was warm and I definitely enjoyed dealing with him. The other 2, dr. cousineau and dale perry were the complete opposite experience. Dale perry was completely judgemental, brash, cold, and without sounding crazy, made me want to punch her in the mouth. Dr. Cousineau was the same. Condescending, short, I got the very specific feeling that she thought and thinks she's better than almost all her patients. I understand that people of bad days and personal lives that might interfere with their work, but when you're in the business of dealing with patients, it's best to temper your attitude. I would never deal with those 2 and would highly highly recommend no one else did. If you ever visit women's care make sure to deal with the male doctor (I forgot his name) or dr. gilberg-lenz only. I promise you will regret it otherwise. I spend years finding and getting comfortable with my health care professionals and stay with them for years and years. Those 2 are the only one's that have left me with a bad taste in my mouth. You pay a lot of money for health care, you should be 100% comfortable and satisfied. Dr. Cousineau, maybe next time you feel like a patient is wasting your time, you remember how blessed you are and how you are in a position to help people but oddly you are having the opposite effect. Your position puts you in the service business fyi, it doesn't make you better than everyone, I know you may not hear that much, but you should know. Learn some commonplace manners. read more

I went to Dr. Cousineau for 20 years and recently had a horrible experience that I think is important to share. 1) I had been put on hormone replacement therapy. I don't think Dr. Cousineau ever stressed that this could cause breast cancer. I was given numerous prescriptions going on and off them through the years. The last time I went on them in April I was never asked to come in to have my hormones checked. 2) When Dr Cousineau called me to tell me I had breast cancer she was totally unprepared. This is how the conversation went, " This is the call I hate to make. You have breast cancer. Hmmm I don't have any phone numbers of surgeons but you need to find a surgeon. I can throw out some names....Dr. Guiliano but you will never get in so try Christi Funk, people seem to like her (look at her yelp ratings if you want a good dose of this Dr...and I know someone who thinks the reason she had to have a mastectomy is that Dr. Funk did not clear the margins in her first 2 lumpectomies) and Dr. (I am blanking on his name but when I looked him up he is a thyroid cancer specialist)" Yes that is what Dr. Cousineau did...left me in shock with no concrete next step...lazy, disinterested....obviously overworked. Sad but true. read more

Although Dr Cousineau is a very accomplished and kind individual (she even returns her calls, eventually), I think she spreads herself too thin. What do I mean? If I have to routinely wait at least one hour (usually 1.5 hours!) for a scheduled appointment, that's not acceptable. I have uterine polyps that need to be monitored every six months. if I can't efficiently make a follow-up as I'm requested to do, then my care is not delivered in a timely fashion although on my part I have made the effort to schedule an appt. (I didn't get called back by the master 'scheduler' although I called her and left messages for 2.5 months). Perhaps DrC just has too many clients (I use 'client' rather than 'patient' since I'm not ill). The office personnel try to be helpful, but are overloaded just as everyone else in that office. Judy Irvin, patient service mgr, disables efficiency with over-familiarity (addressing clients as 'dearie' and using other overly effusive language), rather than calling back in reasonable time frame, and responding to clients effectively, respectfully, professionally. OK, maybe I can be a tad(!) misanthropic, but my time is valuable, and I'm not a person who appreciates being patronized. Dr C is a fine doctor; but I think that this entire group needs more support staff, including more support for Ms Irvin. And although I have been willing to go outside my insurance plan, the exchange (in terms of quality of care) is just not in my favor any longer. read more
