We shopped around and found Rusty's to be fair-priced, at the end they even came in below quote. We had the Chase topper, chimney, fireplace and wall replaced. The before and after pics are amazing. We had an external air supply connected so it doesn't draw air from the house, and Rusty & Ray worked with us to install ducting from the basement to better circulate the hot air around the house! We chose the stone from a local supply and ordered a mantle from Lowe's, and Rusty and Ray did the rest. The craftsman ship is top-notch, they left the house very clean. It is difficult to overstate the friendliness and great customer service of all the employees Every year we order pellets from Rusty's. They carry a great brand which cleans cleanly and completely. We choose delivery, and they schedule the delivery by their staff. The truck always arrives on time. They even will stack the bags for you. How's that for service? Every spring we schedule time for Rusty and his sweeps to inspect and clean our chimney. They have always been punctual, do a thorough job, and take pains to keep our home clean from any dust or debris. Real pros. Prompt efficient and polite - Maria (and John (?) of Rusty's were the best! - first competent Chimney repair place we have found in 8 years here in Harper's Ferry WV - after lots of no-shows, poor cleanings, bad installs etc. from other places. We put in this custom high-heat chimney 8 years ago and had tons of problems. The builder took 6 months to address the repairs required by the WV inspector, and we have had problems ever since. I've bought a new wood pellet stove from Rusty's and they have maintained both of my stoves for the past three years. This afternoon, Rusty's team (Maria and Joe) came to my house to do a detailed cleaning of the stove which has heated the house for the past two winters. Maria and Joe could not have been courteous, diligent, efficient, and thorough. They brought all the right equipment and were very experienced. Not only did they do a great job and left the place spotless--they even replaced my wife's knick-knacks in the same places when they finished. Absolutely phenomenal experience. Thank you! read more

Worst customer service ever. Seriously, felt like I was talking to a snotty teenager on the phone. I would never use them again.

I've been trying to get my pellet stove running reliably since December of 2019. They couldnt make a visit until mid January. Parts did not arrive until March. in March, i believe they replaced the blower. By that time, the burning season was through. In the fall of 2020, they replaced all of interior chimney lining because they said the airflow was not sufficient. i used it all season beginning in December of 2020 thru March of 2021. in may of 21, they chipped off the old top wash and repaired that. which brings me to fall of 2021. ive used the stove maybe 5 times at the most this fall and now the stove once again is not working. By the way, they have cleaned it at least twice, too, in 2 years. All told, Ive invested about 2,4000.00 to get it running and yet its STILL not running! When i called today, i was told by May that Rusty could see me tomorrow between 12 and 3 but that time wont work great for me. she then told me that Rusty is so booked that his next appt opening is not before January 27. This is completely unacceptable! These people are rude, greedy, and all they do is take your money and then make you wait MONTHS to get service. They dont seem to know how to trouble shoot or fix a problem! And Rusty's office clerk, May, is very rude! I asked to speak directly with Rusty since he has been servicing the unit for several years, and she refused to text him a message. read more

So I am writing this review based on interactions with the sales people. We haven't bought or had anything installed yet. Our first encounter with them was later in the day on a Monday. They were supposed to have closed and hour before but stayed open to talk to us. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. I am happy that we took the time to speak with them as other contractors gave us different information- and possibly wrong info. If we get a wood stove- it will be from these guys. read more

Today we had our chimney swept and I am very pleased with the results. Not only did they do a good job, but they caught an error that the previous sweeps didn't catch - and they fixed it properly. Fantastic team. These kids [okay I'm old, these are 'kids' to me LOL] were conscientious, detail oriented, careful, very respectful and thorough. The job included 3 fireplaces in a single chimney. In spite of rain, a power outage, schedule conflicts, biting wind [wind gusts of 50 mph] and below-freezing temperatures, these technicians came through and got the job done. The sweeps arrived as scheduled, with a confirmation call a few days before, and before that, a review visit to ensure all parts would be on-hand and ready for installation. The first day it was raining hard and we had a power outage, making the installation [which includes a lot of time on the roof] impossible. This took out a day from the three-day installation. They climbed up on the roof in freezing gales to affix 3 slinkys, dampers and their chains, repair a crumbling fireplace [parging the smoke chamber], put in two woodstoves [one 550 lbs] trundling over slimy mud [rainiest year ever 2018] and uneven stone steps, remove old cast-iron dampers, place sheeting to damp the draft in two fireplaces with stove pipes, and paint all the shiny metal black. The team, led by Mike, cleaned up after themselves catching paint drips, picking up associated debris, vacuuming soot, gathering tools, and any mess they caused. The team flexed between two and a full-on assault of seven. Because of various delays, these kids all pulled together working into the dark, finishing at 8:30 at night. Rusty first came out about a year ago to assess the chimneys and fireplaces at our 1750s stone house, and for woodstove recommendations. He was quick, respectful, short and to the point. Answered my innumerable questions [that he's probably heard a million times already over the years]. He gave me pictures of the insides of the huge chimneys as part of the free estimate. Eventually we were able to schedule the work and decide on the stoves. I had gotten estimates from two other local chimney companies and was literally insulted by both! They were shockingly rude, bossy, and impatient. They seemed to have no understanding of grandfathered fire codes in a 1750s stone farm house [there aren't any, duh, until you make huge changes] and spoke down to me. I checked their information with the Fire Chief and Loudoun County codes. I wondered if this hatefulness was a common trait to chimney companies! Fortunately Rusty was completely different, very respectful, knowledgeable, acquainted with very old, non-standard houses, and eager to help me. read more

I was very impressed with the level of knowledge and honesty exhibited by Rusty when he came to inspect and clean our chimney. We recently purchased an older home and want to use the existing wood stove as the primary source of heat. He showed us what needed improvement and gracefully didn't sugarcoat what issues needed to be addressed. I am gratefull that he did so as our lives and property are at stake. We were charged $100 less than we were quoted and have scheduled another visit to have a stainless steel liner installed in our aging chimney that wasn't built properly to begin with. They installed an older stove I purchased but did not attach the stove pipe to the stove properly and the pipe backed off from the back of the stove when I noticed it flames and smoke were coming out of the back of the stove and could have been a disaster. I had to bang the pipe back onto the back of the stove. I found out later that it was supposed to be attached with screws to the back of the stove to prevent this problem. But the technician was in a hurry ran in and ran out. He spent less than 10 minutes and the charge was several hundred dollars. Insurance companies require a professional to install your woodstove for safety reasons. I believe anyone would have done a better job than this. read more

I'm thrilled to have found a really knowledgeable and professional company!! I first spoke with their salesperson, Tommy, who was very helpful and knowledgeable. If he didn't know something, he would tell me he didn't know and he would get back to me and then he actually DID get back to me!! His help for both a gas fireplace installation and a pellet stove installation have been incredible. Then Rusty himself came out both for the gas fireplace build and install and also for the pellet stove. He spent the time to go over operation of both and answer any questions. He also did some stone work on my fireplace that I initially was not satisfied with, so he came out and reworked it at NO additional cost until I was satisfied. It seems you almost never find the kind of work ethic and focus on customer satisfaction in these days that you can still find in this company. From store to home, a 5 star experience. We just had a small Jotul F100 wodstove installed. Tommy in the store is an encyclopedia of information about all their products. He made recommendations without being pushy. Rusty did a preliminary inspection of where the stove would be installed, knew all the measurements, fit everything to the installation site. He arrived on time and everything was cleaned up when the job was finished. The stove looks beautiful in place and Rusty gave us an informative and clear tutorial on how to break it in. The weather got warm so we haven't actually burned anything yet but I now understand how secondary burning of the smoke happens, and how moisture content of the wood affects that process and the efficiency of the stove. And as a bonus the fireplace and chimney are much cleaner than they were after another company cleaned them a few months ago when we bought this house. read more
