A supreme waste of time and money. Tacos were barely filled, margarita was flavorless (except the aftertaste of cheap tequila). The Philly taco was top notch! I also got the Baja taco and chicken fajita taco. Both were pretty good and great value. Overall, tacos are as good or better than Torchy's or Velvet. However, the interior dining experience was not as fancy as Torchy's or Velvet. This may be in part that this restaurant appears to be a gas station that was converted into a restaurant. I want to make this clear that in no way Im I comparing this place to an authentic taqueria. I also want to say that the reviews here are all over the place. It seems theres no consistency to how this place is operated, but this review is solely on my experience for a few Fridays ago. If I come back and have a bad experience, I will definitely mention it. This place seems more solid compared to all the other gringo taco establishment. Granted, the tacos are a little more expensive, but it seems fair when they put time and effort into their ingredients. Their habanero sauce is not as hot sa one would expect, but it brings plenty of heat that stays on the tongue. Their green and red sauce are forgettable and do little other than add acidity and moisture to the meal. I got the rusty, which was a pastor vibe, but not quite. I also got a fried chicken taco with queso and bacon. The rusty taco had a wonderfully bold and consistent smokey flavor. The meat was also at the right level of moisture, where it had structure and wasn't soggy wet. The pineapples and cilantros interweaved from the back and forefront. The fried chicken one could have had more queso, but overall, each ingredient stood out. The bacon especially had this wonderful crispy char. This was probably my least favorite, and one taco that torchys does better overall with. The baja shrimp had finely battered shrimp that tastes like shrimp should. The shrimp itself was the right texture, along with a great coat of breading on top. The purple cabbage could have either been shredded thinner, or used less. The habanero works really well with this taco. The sweet bbq brisket isnt exactly what I expected, but in a good way. Instead of a sweet bbq sauce drenched meat, I received a sauceless brisket, seasoned with just salt and pepper (just like in good ol' Texas style). It wasn't the most tender or fatty cut of brisket, but it proivded a solid beef taste that never got chewy or dry. Granted, this one will piss out some juice from either side, so don't try to eat this while in the car. The migas taco was way creamier than I thought it was gonna be. Otherwise, the egg and queso were the main acts, with the tortilla strips and jalapeno weaving in and out in cameo appearances. There could have been more of both, but I guess this is a taco and not a burrito! The potato was there, but more as a filling agent. You cant taste it among the other ingredients. As much as I hate a salsa drenched meal, I feel there was something missing as a salsa flavor. Perhaps some fresh cilantro and finely diced tomatoes would have helped. Otherwise, a solid taco, even if it doesn't exactly hit home as a migas taste. The rajas is what I would probably make at home, which isnt a bad thing, but ultimately, there's some lacking ingredient that ties everything together. Perhaps this needs a sauce or marinade, but it has to be done right. Otherwise, all the veggies stood out fresh, with a decent grilled flavor charred to all of its edges. Vegetarians and vegans will be delighted with this one. Overall, I was happy with my experience, even though there's room for improvement. Their corn tortillas are nothing special, but they hold up. I wish they either used a different brand, used more oil when grilling them, or made them in house. The tortillas here are truly forgettable and bring no flavor to the overall experience. read more

So instead I ordered guacamole and chips, elote (Mexican corn in a cup), 1 street taco (brisket) and 1 taco of the month (surf n turf-brisket and fried shrimp with bbq sauce). Guacamole was a complete fail. It was so bland it tasted like plain avocado with no seasoning no onions or tomato's...just nothing. I also did not care for the surf n turf taco it was just too much going on but I would definitely say try it if you're not into street tacos anyways. Otherwise, the other tacos are ok. Not bad, not great. The tortillas will fall apart if you take your order to go. They just don't hold up. The brisket could use more flavor. I've tried the brisket on 2 separate occasions and usually only take 1 -2 bites before moving on to the next taco. I love the convenient location and the patio! This place has gone to the dumps. I ordered a brisket taco a few weeks ago and it was dried out and crunchy. Today I went for some breakfast tacos and they were all messed up (past three times I've been) - no avocado which I paid a dollar extra for, chorizo egg and cheese tacos all had queso on them (yuck!) and the ones I ordered with corn came in flour. The worst part about it is there's no contact information on their site. They direct you to call the store and talk with a cashier who a) doesn't care and b) can't do anything. I wish this place would get back to what they were 5-6 years ago. Going to be skipping it for awhile and a judging by the reviews, seems like everyone should be. read more

It's conveniently located in the district of the SMU area off of Greenville and University Blvd. Rusty Tacos has an intimate feel to the restaurant. They have a nice patio and eating area with plenty of seating inside and outside. It isn't a real fancy joint but its pretty squeaky clean, which I can appreciate! They have a lot of great flavors and different types of tacos to choose from. You can get breakfast tacos, to chicken fajita, fried chicken, fried fish, grilled fish, brisket and many more. The tacos are cheap and they come out really fast! I normally get 3 tacos because they are pretty small.
