El Bueno Taco - Fairfield Commons Mall A 90s Mall Food Court…read moreThrowback... but make it delicious Walking into the Fairfield Commons food court felt like stepping straight back into a 90s mall montage--bright colors, neon vibes, and that classic food‑court energy we all secretly miss. And right there, tucked across from Bath & Body Works, is a small, non‑chain gem that absolutely deserves your attention: El Bueno Taco. Before you roll your eyes at "mall food," hear me out. This place is the real deal. The Food We ordered three Al Pastor tacos and a chorizo & steak sopes, and let me tell you--this is where El Bueno Taco shows off. Al Pastor Tacos Perfectly seasoned, slightly smoky pork with that signature hint of sweetness from the pineapple. The meat is tender, juicy, and packed with flavor in every bite. It's the kind of taco that makes you pause mid‑chew and go, "Oh... okay, they're not playing." Chorizo & Steak Sopes The sopes come out thick, warm, and beautifully crisp on the edges. The steak is tender and well‑seasoned, the chorizo brings that bold, savory kick, and the whole thing is layered with fresh toppings that make it feel hearty without being heavy. It's comfort food with personality. The Vibe Typical mall parking--well‑lit, plenty of space, easy in and out. The food court is on the second floor, and El Bueno Taco is easy to spot thanks to the fun, colorful décor that gives the whole area a cheerful, welcoming feel. Final Thoughts If you're craving tacos that taste like they came from a street‑side taquería rather than a mall, this is your spot. Small business, big flavor, and a nostalgic setting that somehow makes the whole experience even better. El Bueno Taco is officially on my "unexpected mall wins" list.

I went at 8pm on a Saturday and there was no line, plenty of parking. The cashier was polite and friendly, told me 10-15 minutes, but it was ready in about 8 minutes. The horchata and tacos were all delicious! The salsas were also very good, and they gave me two large slices of lime for my food. I will definitely go back. Reasonably priced in my opinion, I paid $16 for four tacos and a large horchata. The food was really well wrapped in heavy duty tin foil and placed in a plastic grocery bag. On my way home my food slid off the seat and crashed onto the floor, but everything stayed intact! This wasn't a problem for me, but just know it is cash only and there's no seating while you're waiting. I sat and waited on a concrete parking block since I didn't park close enough to see the window.

The carne asada was served traditionally, however the beef wasn't seasoned well- we look for evidence of a lime-based marinara which was lacking. Nonetheless, the food was tasty. Service was quick, attentive, and polite. Well done! The main reason for three stars was the poor maintenance of the restrooms. The ladies was "c+" clean, while the men's room was "D". We visited this establishment within 30 minutes of opening with one other customer in the building. However the men's room smelled strongly of urine with tiny gnats hovering around the urinals and toilets. Otherwise, the ambiance of the dining area is colorful and clean.

I've had plantains in the past, but these were certainly the best I've tried. For entrees, we went with arroz con pollo and bandeja paisa which was basically an assortment platter. I was a little disappointed in the arroz con pollo. Rice was over cooked and the flavor was overall muted. For dessert, we tried obleas -- thin waffles filled with jam, caramel and cheese. The waffles weren't true waffles, but more just cracker type. Again, rather disappointing but maybe I just don't have the right taste for it. The service was excellent, and we did enjoy the appetizers. Entrees and dessert were a let down. Overall, 3 stars in my book.
