Took my son here for his first time. We both ordered the grilled shrimp Baja taco and the rusty taco and Pilled pork taco. The shrimp taco was the best one. I remember when they first opened a few years ago and the shrimp was huge and juicy. They are A LOT smaller now. We also got the queso and chips for 4 bucks. Can you believe we barely got around to trying this place now!? I heard mixed reviews recently & needed to try for myself! It's at an average price range. I tried the - Chicken fajita taco - decent but expected more flavor Cauliflower taco - really liked this one because of how well the cauliflower was grilled Baja shrimp taco - one of my favorites because of the the flavoring / spice & the rusty taco - really great flavor but sad they forgot to put pineapple on mine I think it would've made it better I also had a mango jalapeño Margarita. I liked the flavor and it wasn't too spicy BUT I do have a few complaints - I didn't like sucking up chunks of jalapeño the whole time. Also my glass was sticky & soaked from the sugar rim which was not enjoyable. They have an open floor plan & since it is warmer weather they have a little bit of an outdoor seating area to soak in the sun! We sat by the patio area because there wasn't any seating left for us to snag but it was close enough we felt like we had an outdoorish experience! Basic tacos. This place is at the mall and we stopped to get tacos after a coworker recommended this place. I was not impressed. They sell margaritas. I wanted the frozen watermelon, but there machine was broken, so I had to get a regular margarita. I had the fried chicken taco (the chicken was very skinny and small. Seriously the width of a #2 pencil. They poured cheese sauce on it). I also had a roasted pork taco (Smoked green chile pork, cotija cheese, pickled red onions). And lastly, we had a rust taco (supposed to have Achiote pork, grilled pineapple relish, diced onion, cilantro... but mine lacked the pineapple relish) Coming from Tucson Arizona, where I eat a ton of street tacos, these were disappointing and not too flavorful. You order at the counter here. There are no waiters or waitresses. They had a long line going out the door. I saw one dude in line with a Texas Longhorns t-shirt. This is a taco chain from Texas. On their website, it says they were inspired by a fishing trip to Acalpulco, Mexico. Although the tacos look like they are from Mexico, they are more Tex-Mex. The steak in the fajita taco tasted bland and dry. The fried fish in the fish taco wasn't crunchy, but a bit soggy. They have three hot sauces, green/mild, red/medium, and orange/habanero/hot. I tried the hot one, and it was runny and not quite so hot. I like spicey! For a pure taco joint, you'd think the tacos would be much better. I did enjoy the Pepe Loco Mexican lager from Santa Fe brewing. I'd never had it and it tasted better than a Corona. Truth be told, the beer would have been better from the tap AT Santa Fe Brewing. We visited this past Sunday. We looked it up on Yelp (of course) before going and visited their web site where they had a prominent coupon for free chips and queso if we joined their Loyalty Club. Easy decision! So we presented the coupon when entering, and then ordered steak nachos (pour moi) and chicken nachos for the husband. Sure enough, we got charged for chips and queso. Thirty seconds after showing the coupon and clarifying that the coupon was valid. Sigh. They did not refund the order, but said they could give me a coupon for the next time. Ok. Now on to the better part of this review. The nachos were good... a little soupy but we like them that way. The best part was the salsas that were in the fridge at the back of the restaurant. Very tangy with a nice smoked flavor. The meat was a generous portion and was hot and juicy. Pico was great, too. Even the "free" chips and queso were good, although they were served at the same time as the nachos so it was a bit too much of a good thing. Our fault in ordering. It was a serve yourself type of place so no comment needed on service. They kept the tables turned and cleaned fairly well. So overall, thumbs up... as long as you don't have a coupon! read more

Welp it's TACO TUESDAY and I just had the most amazing meal for my first visit to Rusty Taco. Wowsers! So good. It's a casual place where you stand in line and order and pick it up from the food counter. I wanted to try it because they are offering free chips and queso right now to first time customers. I ordered mine from online take out and when I got there right on time my food was being put into bags. I was able to pass the line since I had already paid so that was nice. I just went right up to the food counter. Quick and easy. The free chips and queso were delicious. The chips were warm, crunchy, and salty good. The queso was very good also with Just the right amount of green chile heat. I ordered a Dynamite Shrimp which was fantastic. It is made with some fried shrimp, slaw, avocado, jalapeño ranch, and siracha. It was tasty. Creamy, spicy, crunchy goodness in each bite. I also ordered the Carne Asada taco and it was equally fantastic with red chile and melty cheese. I would definitely recommend checking this place out. Cheers! read more

In town for the weekend and looking for a place to grab a quick, tasty bite - we came across the Yelp page for Rusty Taco around the corner. Dropped by and ordered a bunch of different take-out tacos for the family to try along with chips & queso, kids menu quesadilla and kids menu crispy chicken & potatoes. The #4 Chicken Fajita taco was a hit with the three who tried it. The chicken was large chunks of lean, white meat along with grilled onions and peppers. The #6 Rajas taco was good also. The flavors of the onions, poblano & queso fresco worked well together. The #7 Fish taco was the only big miss and didn't get finished based on the taste. The fish was over cooked and did not taste fresh - will pass on that one next time. The #8 Baja Shrimp taco was "edible but wouldn't be ordered again". The #9 Rusty taco was a hit too. The flavors were much different than the other options with pineapple in the mix. The #11 BBQ Brisket taco also worked out well and is recommended. The #13 Texican taco was the safest bet of them all - ground beef, lettuce, tomato - hard to screw it up and it worked... Thumbs up for the chips & queso Thumbs up for the kids menu options - the chicken & potatoes were really tasty! The three salsa options were very different. Habanero was too hot for our taste! The red option was good but didn't have much of a kick which left the green as the favorite. read more

I had high hopes for this place, but overall it did not live up to my expectations. I hadn't been out really anywhere, to any restaurant, for a really long time and I picked this place to venture out to on a whim. The menu has a wide variety of tacos to pick from, but the tacos I got were kind of dry and not super flavorful! I tried the Picadillo and the Rusty Taco and both were just mediocre. In NM, there are so many restaurants that serve street tacos, and in the future I will stick to one of these other local taco establishments! On the plus side, they do have a kids quesadilla that my daughter really enjoyed...but who can mess up a little quesadilla ! read more

We'd hoped to order a beef fajita bowl too, but they'd run out of rice for the bowls. Impressed by their quick adaptability in suggesting they turn it into a taco salad. Not crowded in the later evening, and the food was ready very quickly. Both meals were extremely tasty, and the birria tacos were picture perfect. Loved the Mexican themed decor! The rusty taco is pretty good. I wasn't necessarily thrilled with the prices but it is what it is. We ordered 7 different tacos, but my favorite was the fish taco (fried). The fried chicken taco was also very good, we also had the shrimp tacos, fajita steak, and tei different pork tacos. All were very tasty. The chips and salsa was decent, but I would have liked a chuncky salsa. The restaurant was clean for the most part. So the reason I had to give this establishment 2 stars is because one of the employees took the trash out of the building which is great however this guy didn't wash his damn hands once he returned to the kitchen. I watched him clean a few counters, then he put a glove on and he started making tortillas for another order. Which was kind of weird to me that he only used one glove. So with that being said I'm on the fence about returning or not. read more
