We highly recommend the fried green beans appetizer. We had the pleasure of sitting outside on a Saturday evening, the weather was beautiful and the picnic tables are comfy. We got salad and fried shrimp to share. The shrimp could use a little more seasoning in the batter, they were kind of bland but still delicious. The Buffalo fried chicken salad was fresh but who ever made it poured the last of the croutons contents on top and the salad was mostly crouton crumbs which took away from the fresh veggies. This is a cute spot in the middle of a planned community. Food was reasonably priced, service was good. Husband got shrimp and fries, I got the very large chicken parm sandwich, one daughter got a grilled shrimp salad that she loved, and littles got grilled cheese. The restaurant was clean and family friendly. We weren't sure if we were supposed to bus our own table or not because there were big trash cans around, so we cleaned up ourselves. Rusty Pelican has delicious food however, DO NOT place an order online. About a month ago, I ordered online and picked up our food at the given pickup time. We only live a few miles away and the food was cold when I got it home. Today, I placed an order requesting an 11:45a pickup. I arrived at 11:30a, 15 minutes before my requested pickup time. My order was being placed on the counter as I walked in. What really got me though was that the pickup email from RP stated my order would be ready at 12:15p, 45 minutes after I arrived and saw my order being placed on the counter. You'll find this tucked back in a woodsy area, so don't pass it up because it's not in the center of town! You'll be happy with the looks, the feel and food. I ate agrilled Mahi sandwich with a cold draft beer. Since the open kitchen is directly behind the bar, the chef had the chance to ask me about my food (great!). Blond, varnished woodwork makes this place look light and clean. Fast prep (well above "fast food") is an obvious attraction - I saw many call-in orders prepared. Everything we have ordered from here is delicious!! The fried mushrooms, fried artichoke heart, eggplant spears, cheese sticks(more like logs), fried green tomatoes and the fried pickles are all favorites in our house and we usually fight over the mushrooms everytime!! I haven't tried the burgers but my husband loves them, I usually always get the Jive Bird(Buffalo chicken) sandwich and it's the perfect amount of flavor and heat along with their homemade ranch dressing. If you're looking for a good Resturant where the food is always fresh this is the place. We usually get take out, but live in ponchatoula and the food is always still hot by the time we get back home with it, so I don't know what the complaints are about the food being cold when picked up, these people must have left their orders sitting there for a while before going to get it. read more

overall the food was great but my biggest problem that would stop me from going is the fact that they play with your food right infront of you. i watched my entire meal be made with no gloves, the cooks touching the same dirty rags and clothes then touching the food, cleaning tables then coming back to touch the food. not one time did they use anything besides there hands they picked up cheese, lettuce, everything with there bare hands and it was pretty gross. read more

This is the time of year where seafood is more requested (during lent) and you are able to find many restaurants serving shrimp and seafood selections. My family decided to try the Rusty Pelican tonight and were extremely disappointed. I'm not a person who normally does reviews but this restaurant needed one desperately. I'm enclosing a picture of the shrimp and crab cake dinner, the crab cake appetizer and the fried eggplant. I have lived in Covington since 1994 and have been to MANY seafood restaurants. The food portions were simply pathetic, crab cakes were dry, mostly bread with little crab and the fried eggplant was not even edible. I'm not posting this to discourage customers but to alert management to make a change immediately. My mother attempted to talk a manager about our order but was not concerned and only put the blame on the delivery service instead of listening to our concerns.
