I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty empty/chill. I got seated after a minute and ordered a crab and spinach benedict for lunch and a classic breakfast sandwich with coffee for breakfast the next day. I was staying at the Polynesian resort so it was super convenient that I was able to just walk here. I ordered breakfast to go since I was planning on heading out before the restaurant opened for breakfast. I appreciate that they accommodated my slightly complex order. The crab and spinach benedict looked good and tasted good. The hash browns were crispy but a bit under seasoned. The eggs were perfect and had runny yolk after I bursted them. This crab/spinach/egg combo works very well. The crab tastes very good and the spinach added a good textural component. The hollandaise sauce looks a bit funny (maybe it split?) but still tastes good. I like the benedict a lot but wish it had more crab. Service wise, the only hiccups that I experienced were that I asked for ketchup but it never arrived and I was too lazy to get up to ask again. They also ran out of to-go coffee cups so they took it off my bill. Overall I had a good experience and really enjoyed the benedict. read more

If I could I would give it zero because it took about ten minutes to get seated. The worker looked at us and said "one minute" and we had to go outside and he was just out there smoking. Also when we ordered our food it took about an hour or so to get here. The food was ok Bf got Cajun Alfredo and I got chicken Parmesan Their photos of the menu on here are way different from in restaurants. The food is not cheap at all. Fish tacos (two), and nachos (not texican), plus one beer. Total bill was just over $28.00. For us, this was dinner. I am eager (now) to try their breakfast. My only criticism is about the music. My hearing disability makes it very difficult to hear table conversation over even moderate volumes. Waitress did turn it down on request. read more

We looked inside and thought we had stepped back in time... a facelift is in order here. It just looks rundown. I get that it is at the coast and has a coast feel, but they can clean in up, freshen the paint, remove Knick knacks and create a more classy environment. just sayin. the food was good, the price is steeper, but your at the beach. my chicken was tender and cooked just right to have some moister left in it. In two visit never a line at dinner, even when others were packed in town, so that was a bit of a questions, but they are larger than most. read more

My family and friends decided to give this place a try as it was just a short walk down the road from our hotel. We thought we'd grab a few drinks and dinner while catching up. For starters, I'll say that our host was excellent. She was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. She was a big factor in making our experience better than it might have been. For the drinks, we ordered pretty standard cocktails and they were done well although the strawberry lemon drop my wife got was a bit too sweet. Nonetheless, they were all pretty good. Unfortunately, the food, on the other hand, was a bit of a let down. I had the BBQ burger and it was very over cooked. So much so that I only had a couple bites before switching to my fries. My daughter ordered the NY strip w/ coconut prawns. The prawns were good but the steak came out very well done when we asked for medium rare. The highlight of our meal was actually the appetizer. We got the beer battered cheese curds and they were excellent. I'd order those again. All in all, it wasn't quite the experience we were hoping for. Maybe we caught them on an off-night. Our group went to this restaurant to try is while visiting in town. As the host walked us to our table it felt like walking into a slightly classier Denny's... take from that what you will. Service was slow. Slow when we arrived slow while we were there. Slow as we were trying to get our checks, and the place was more than half empty, no excuse. Our waitress was nice and appeared to be trying. Every one in our group that has something fried said there was a lot of breading. I had the classic burger, and it was a normal burger that I paid too much for! Ope and two people of our group say a rat as we left scurrying around the building and under a car. Yikes! Delicious dinner in a nice restaurant located by a pretty large hotel. Took about 10 minutes to get in before happy hour ended, unfortunately, they only do happy hour in one section. Drinks were okay, but definitely not the best (they were really weak). Fish and chips we were expecting perfection, but they were bland. I believe the consensus was a YES for the Mac and cheese and salad. An OK for the chicken pasta, and a NO for fish and chips and the worst pea soup I've ever had... (not that it was horrible soup, it just wasn't/shouldn't be qualified as pea soup). We will not return to this restaurant as we see it was a little costly for little return. read more

Had the prime rib special and the cut was ginormous! The cook was perfect, the sides of broccoli and mashed potatoes were perfect (with just a hint of garlic) and it was all served on a hot plate. (The special also came with the most delicious chowder or green salad and dessert (options last night were carrot cake, triple chocolate cake, cheesecake or blueberry cheesecake). Our server, Silver, was fantastic. The entire order, by memory, correct. Top notch service (attention to detail like a fine dining restaurant) and the most kind & friendly disposition ever. This place wasn't our first choice, but we were quite satisfied. Though the servers were busy they were quite attentive. The clam chowder was edible, though not over tasty. The fish and chips were served with Cole slaw which was room temperature. The battered fish was thick tasty, and cooked just right. The fries were average. We had a large gathering (maybe 50 people) here last weekend. Although the reservation was for 5 pm, we spent the first hour mingling and then another 2 1/2 hours in our seats. We had a lovely waitress but she did get a couple of our starter orders wrong. I don't fault her too much as it was pretty crazy. The food, while it took forever to get to us (I think we were the last to be served) was pretty good. I had the salmon and it was a large piece, nicely glazed and cooked, over white rice and asparagus. I also had the clam chowder as my starter. I liked it, but beware it's bacon heavy. My husband had the steak and it was just OK. They don't ask how you want it cooked, and a lot of the fat hadn't been rendered off. I ordered a hot tea because it was quite chilly in the restaurant, and our server was so kind to keep offering refills. She told us that the heaters had stopped working for months now and they were relying on space heaters. The inside is pretty dated, and it felt like we were in a church banquet hall. I noticed booths on the opposite side of the restaurant (near the windows) which seemed more cozy. Overall, we had good service and I enjoyed my food. My family and I stopped in here for dinner after visiting the beach for the day. The service was horrendous. I have to say that during Covid, I have been way more patient and understanding due to the ability to find employees and mandates. With that being said, there was really no excuse for the service and poorly made food we received. The service was horribly slow. I get it, you are understaffed. So limit tables or communicate with your customers about what is going on. We were sat and did not get acknowledged or get water for over 15 minutes. Finally our server came and took our orders. Took another 15 minutes to get drinks. So thirty minutes in we have drinks but no appetizer or salad or soups we ordered with our meals. At the 45 minute mark 3/5 entrees were brought out (along with salads and soup and appetizer, so there was no flow to the meal whatsoever). My youngest child and my oldest daughter waited for an additional 15 minutes before their food was brought out so we didnt even get to eat our food together. IT was very disjointed. My son's hamburger bun was burned. Another entree was missing ingredients. Another entree was barely warm. The server did not appear to give any f*cks. I get it, we all have bad days. But I would be disciplined or fired if I acted that way at my job and I deal with difficult people and we run short handed too. All told, it was not a good experience and we would not come back nor would we recommend this place. read more

I love this building, I think that was my favorite part. It's at a hotel so parking and location is easy to access. Our hostess was prompt and friendly. I don't know if it was an off day or it was particular to our server or what, but service at table was lacking. The guy didn't listen well and seemed distracted. He was pleasant enough and answered questions cheerfully, but got some things wrong. To be fair that's not where the docked star comes from because such things happen, but if anyone has the same experience it might be a theme. It's extremely laid back, which is what you want at the ocean, but even so the aesthetic is very nice. The windows are big and glorious and the noise from other tables kind of floats around without ever being intrusive. The prices are coastal prices, no pinching pennies here, but I've seen worse. The portions were dead average. Our table got a variety of food so I can say their menu will satiate most palates, and while it does have some of that pre-packaged feel to certain items, it was consistent and flavorful. A little heavy on the sweet side for food, but it is America and we love our sugar. The drink I ordered was not prompt but it was poured well enough for the price, although next time I'll ask what brands of tequila they have because their house tequila left me with a headache despite only having the one drink. They did have gluten free buns, but little else can accommodate that particular food issue, which for us is always a consideration though I understand it isn't for everyone. All in all we were on a mini vacation with friends, so while I can't say I'd jump at the chance to go again, it served it's purpose without any major hangups. read more

We walked from our hotel and was surprised to see it empty! Appetizer of coconut prawns with chili sauce was the best I've ever had and our meal was good as well. The drinks were super strong and couldn't finish them and the staff acted bored and kept checking us because we were their only table. Awesome wait staff, Chris in the bar is one of the kindest, good natured professional bartenders in Ocean Shores. Service great. Ambiance is like your favorite beach parka, well worn but comfortable. Unfortunately they will be removing the booths in the dining area. They add warmth, help with acustics, add privacy and so comfortable, tables will turn the once nostalgic Polynesian restaurant into a cold clanking cafeteria . It's so sad. I didn't have much expectation going into this place considering the whole place was empty with the exception of one couple. From what I gather the restaurant is under new ownership but the cook remained the same. Locals also commented that the menu was drastically reduced and the items that locals did enjoy were no longer available. The salads that came with the meal were below average. It just felt like a bag of salad thrown in onto a plate with a few tomatoes that were shriveled. I ordered the fish and chips. The Fish wasn't bad but nothing worth bragging about. The French fries were over seasoned and barely warm. The coleslaw wasn't edible and I'm not sure what exact was in there that grossed me out so much. Out of my entire meal I ate just a piece of fish. My daughter had the kids Mac n cheese with cocktail fruit. It's very common for restaurants to serve kraft Mac n cheese which is fine (that's kids for you) and they sprinkled cheese in top of it. My daughter said the entire dish was gross and didn't eat it. My husband Cajun chicken sandwich. He was severely disappointed when he looked at his sandwich and see that this was a preshaped frozen chicken patty. He said it was flavorless and not as expected. Couldn't finish eating it. My mom ordered a steak and requested it well done, no butter/garlic, and mushrooms. The steak was under cooked, garlic butter served on it,and mushrooms were forgotten. The server did take $5 off the bill though. Overall, it was a terrible experience. We spent a good chunk of money and only had a few bites of the meal. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

The place has hip family vibe. Decent menus selection but mostly seafood. Very large portions. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You order at the counter and the food is brought to you on large galvanized tin platters. Portions are big enough to share for 2. Fresh, fast and you can tell made to order. Had cod fish taco, cup of chowder and seafood sampler. The chowder was good but not very flavorful. You can pass on this item. My fish taco was more like a sandwich tortilla wrap. Not a taco but still a good wrap. Coleslaw was crunchy and not over dressed. Fish was a big portion on the wrap. Seafood sampler was cod, clams fries with add on shrimp. All were great. Large cod fillets. Tarter was spot on. Good flavor. Also have malt vinager for wich I love on my fries. They have a nice seasoning for fries but a salty. Also have cute outdoor patio for summer. I originally posted in 2016 when this establishment was Mariah's, and it was a favorite of ours. Ownership changed and it's now the Rusty Anchor--we started with the simple, but tasty, side salad ($6), a bottle of Angry Orchard Apple, and a lemonade. I love this restaurant. It is the best of all the restaurants in Ocean Shores. I love how spacious and unique it is and the food has always been excellent. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. When it gets busy, it takes a little longer to get food, but it is not a fast-food restaurant. It is a sit-down, order, and wait for it to be carefully and accurately prepared style restaurant. We often go to finer restaurants, and this matches the same time-frames as the others we visit in our home town. Kudos to the staff and management. read more

I wish I could give negative Stars here... just paid about $28/person for what I can safely say was the WORST breakfast buffet I have ever seen. The food, (what little there actually WAS) was cold, obviously Sysco-FSA-Shamrock, convenience product cooking. The type you would see in an institutional cafeteria... there were no eggs for about 40 minutes, gelatinous jello-like gravy with cold, rock-hard biscuits, multiple other offerings looked to have been present at some point but were never refilled. No butter, dried-looking old potatoes, no bowls for the room-temp Yogurt sitting out, cold and overcooked sausage patties sitting next to what used to be bacon at some point before, and ketchup packets off to the side to moisten whatever you were lucky enough to have gotten. It took about 30 minutes to get coffee, water or any kind of beverage. The other patrons were also clearly upset, and it actually looked like a riot was about to ensue. Now look; I understand being short-staffed, or missing ingredients... but if you don't have it together, don't open. You could FEEL AND READ the stress from the servers, and they almost seemed embarrassed. But here is the worst part: You have to pay before you can even walk in... so you don't even get to see the measly, inedible dregs that they offer, and make a decision to walk out before spending $30 on this abysmal excuse for a restaurant experience. When confronted, the manager was mysteriously unavailable to greet the (roughly 12) upset patrons that got swindled at around 9:30-10am on a SUNDAY IN JUNE (6/2/2024). After leaving a phone number to be contacted by management... as of this posting: No Response has been given after assurances were offered. I'm telling you... Avoid this; Especially on Sundays, for their "special buffet." Unless, of course, you don't mind wasting your money and leaving hungry. read more

I was struggling all day trying to find an actual Captains Platter in Ocean Shores in the winter.....there isn't one! The lady at the hotel desk we were staying at suggested we try The Rusty Anchor. We've driven by this for years and never stopped in but we didn't really have any chose at this point......we were sure happy we did. Not much going on in town during the winter so the dining area was closed and so we ate in the bar. Nice menu and we ordered a Hummus Platter for an appetizer and then a Seafood Fettuccini and a Cajun Fettuccini and both fettuccini's were great ! No complaints here! I walked in with at least five drinks in me. I walked out sober, because I had to wait 2.5 hours for food and the bill. The service is so slow and with no reason. Yes, I was in a party of 7, but only two of the 15 other tables had people. The food itself was cold and mediocre. The fact that people from the town still go here surprises me. We were there this weekend for breakfast. It was so cold in the restaurant and our food took forever to come out. The server was very nice and was handling the whole floor herself. Very good food and excellent service. Happy hour is very busy but worth the visit. The bartender and servers are very attentive. Well done.
