Valley Brook Cottages and Cabins

Valley Brook Cottages and Cabins

My girlfriend and I were celebrating our 1-year anniversary this weekend and it was such a great…read moreplace to enjoy our stay. The kitchen area and living room space were great, we cooked our dinner together and even watched a movie with the DVD player provided. The only downside to the cabin was that it was really cold in the living room area. We could feel the chilly air coming through the windows and ice was forming on the windows within the cabin. We bundled up and made the best of the cabin at night. But the freezing weather didn't damper our experience, we're definitely recommending the cabins to our friends and will be back in the summer! Thank you for letting us stay at the cabins and experience the perfect wintery getaway in New Hampshire!!

Whether you are looking to leaf peep the beautiful New England foliage, kayak the rivers, or play in the snow-- this place is the perfect place to stay at. One tip, an amazing spot to take photos is right up the road called The Basin, not mention quick access to Franconia Notch, and multiple waterfalls. Owners Dan & Bill are the sweetest people, they are kind, attentive, and passionate about making their cottages feel like home (but wayyy better)! The entire property has a very magical feel to it. Each little cottage has its own character, and each is cleaned impeccably. You'll have all the things you need to have a wonderful time, don't worry because they've remembered every detail! It's quiet, and charming here, in the summer there is even a pool to take dip in. They provide firewood to have a warm, cozy fireplace. I promise if you stay here, you will be very happy you did. What are you waiting for-- book it already! Five stars all the way!!!

Loch Lyme Lodge - Wedding Ceremony at Loch Lyme Lodge

We visited for a wedding and man was this property beautiful. The ceremony was across the street…read moreoverlooking the water. There are cabins scattered across the property and the main reception was held under a tent in the large field. This is a great property for events, family reunions, a weekend get-a-way, friend or business retreat etc... You are surrounded with nature, in a quiet setting and it just couldn't get much more New England than this. I can only imagine this place in the fall when all the leaves are changing color and the views from the water must be spectacular.

If you didn't have family in NH before, you do now…read more Loch Lyme Lodge - or LLL, as it is known - is a gorgeous property that makes its home beside Post Pond. It features cabins of all shapes and sizes, some lakeside, some mountainside, all tucked into the trees with views of rolling hills and countryside. The proprietors, Jay and Amy, are warm, amenable and kind. The cabins are cozy and well-appointed for couples and families, with fireplaces, day beds and fridges for leftovers. Don't expect luxury; this is rustic living! Part B&B, LLL offers cabins with inclusive breakfasts, ranging from standard continental to omelettes and pancakes (don't miss these... I think they're the best pancakes I've ever had). Activity options abound: soccer (there's an entire field), badminton, tetherball, basketball, two tennis courts, and a lovely grass volleyball court. In case that isn't enough, there's also an "activity cabin" with board games, toys, books, foozball, and TV for kids' movies (see photos). Post Pond, the lodge's central feature, is a glorious place to swim - the water is warm and lovely, as ponds are meant to be. There are rowboats, kayaks, canoes and paddleboards for guests who want to paddle, as well as a fleet of bicycles. If you're into cycling or running, take a meander down N Thetford Rd half a mile from the lodge to River Rd, which takes you all the way to the winding Connecticut River. Birds, butterflies, and peacefulness abound. (Pro tip: take your first right from N Thetford onto Breck Hill Rd for the most idyllic country scene you've ever seen.) LLL's head chef, Janet, cooks up amazing, healthy fare like kale Caesar salad, pesto linguini, grilled chicken, burgers, corn on the cob, steak, jambalaya, zucchini fries, and other fresh cuisine. There's always a kids menu with hot dogs and mac n' cheese, and you can order lunch - and ice cream cones! - through the side kitchen window to dine lakeside. Twice a week there are delicious summer buffets - on Wednesdays and Sundays, LLL is hopping with BBQ, music, juggling, swing sets, see-saws and watermelon. They are also open for dinner on weeknights in their dining room, which is classy without pretention (think tablecloths and napkins, but in a cozy, homey setting). If you ask nicely, they'll set up the most glorious outdoor table under the spreading oak trees with a view of the lake, and you'll think you're in heaven. (Warm rolls and salted butter come gratis.) Amazingly, everyone who stays here manages to become friends, and it starts to feel like home. If you come during summer, prepare for the occasional thunderstorm with raincoat and umbrella... or, better yet, just live in your swimsuit! Sunblock essential, water bottle and flashlight helpful. Cell service is spotty and no WiFi in the cabins, but that feels like a blessing. If you need to plug in, grab a couch in the main lodge or barn. Whether solo or traveling with family, LLL is an amazing place to vacation, have dinner with the kids, or relax for a weekend. This place is a godsend. Thank you LLL!! *Important note: If you smell sewage, don't panic - this just means that your cabin's septic tank needs to be pumped. Tell Jay and it'll be solved lickety split!

I am almost afraid to do this review because then the word will get out about this amazing place…read more We cannot say enough about how wonderful the experience was. Igor, the owner, checks in on you without being intrusive. He is always around if you need anything and is very accommodating. We stayed in Cabin#9. There were 5 of us. We stayed for 6 nights. You walk through a covered porch into an open concept living room/eat in kitchen. There are 2 full bathrooms side by side with walk in showers. Then you walk through each bathroom to get to a bedroom. Each bedroom had a queen bed. Each bathroom and bedroom were nearly identical. Each bedroom had an in-wall air conditioner. There were no air conditioners in the main living space, but we kept the bedroom and bathroom doors open and it kept the place cool. The kitchen is well-equipped with a full sized refrigerator and freezer, stove with oven, toaster, microwave, dishwasher and drip coffee maker. There was an extra leaf for the kitchen table, if needed, and additional folding chairs, if needed. There was a tv in both bedrooms and the living room. One of our kids slept on the couch, which opens to a bed, but she opted to not open it up. There were bath towels for 6 people. Igor offered to provide more if needed. There is no daily cleaning. The cottage came with 3 small bars of soap in each bathroom and some extra toilet paper. There was also dish soap and sponge in kitchen. Some things to consider bringing: toiletries, charcoal and lighter, hair dryer, iron and ironing board (if you are into ironing), pool towels, and board games and playing cards. These were not provided. Also, note there are no on-site guest laundry facilities. There is a laundromat in town, if needed. The outside pool was wonderful. It was between 85 and 87 degrees every day. There were also horseshoes and corn hole. There were tubes to float on by the pool. In the back of each cabin was a small Weber charcoal grill . Bring your own charcoal. There is also a fire pit with cooking grate. The Pemi river runs behind all of the cabins except Cabin#1. The river is too rocky to swim in behind the cabins, but there are other places you can swim in the Pemi, including Cascade Park in the center of North Woodstock, Otter Rocks and Lower Falls. The cabins are very close in walking distance to downtown North Woodstock and there are sidewalks to make it safe. There are wonderful restaurants and quaint shops there. The cabins are very close to the Kangamagus Scenic Byway, which has great pull offs for hiking and scenery, Franconia Notch State Park (less than 10 minutes drive), Lincoln and the Riverwalk by Loon (3 minute drive), White Mountains National Forest (less than 20 minutes). Loon Mountain (5 minutes drive) Cannon Mountain (10 minute drive) Bretton Woods (35-40 minute drive). Firewood was available for sale on site for $6, bags of ice were available for $3.
