The bed was very comfortable. We were able to open the large bedroom window and feel the lovely cool Maine air. The adjacent shared bathroom was large and so luxurious with its double sinks. The home is beautifully decorated with a variety of antiques and special touches. The library and sitting room common areas seemed both stately and comfortable at the same time. The entire home was clean and inviting. A scrumptious homemade breakfast was the icing on the cake! Wonderful. The wraparound porch is large and the garden area and is calming and serene. The flowers around the home are magnificent. There is also a raised screened in porch area off the kitchen to relax in. The home is close to Sebago lake and the New Hampshire border and you can easily walk to the center of town to do some antique shopping or eat at Krista's restaurant. We very much enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Perkins House and plan to return. 4.75 stars.

This is a thoroughly updated establishment in which the details have been sweated out. In the two story great room, there is a healthy selection of good movies, lots of reading materials, games, and many good areas to hang out. Sondra, the proprietor, was a very gracious and generous host and a fabulous cook. It sounds like her menu changes, but for breakfast we had a strawberry, dark and white chocolate cobbler, an egg and ricotta omelet with fresh vegetables, home fries, cinnamon rolls, and bacon. The cobbler was even better than it sounds, the home fries were savory, the omelet was made with fresh eggs from the on-premises hens, and the bacon was crispy and not greasy. Finally, I would be remiss if I neglected to mention the setting. The view of the lake combined with the White Mountain range is so tranquil in the winter. The panoramic picture I posted of the sunset there doesn't do it justice. The way the entire building is situated on the lot and the way the decks open out onto the landscape is just wonderful and unique. One last note - if you like to watch TV, there is a huge menu of available cable channels, and if you use the Internet a lot, the Wifi is very high speed and works outdoors as well. However, your time would be wasted - your head should be pointed at the view and/or the food and not the screen!

The inside is beautifully decorated and has books and games galore. I highly recommend this for a weekend getaway and I'll definitely be back. Thanks Sondra!

I'd never stayed in a motel before and I was expecting something dingy and dark, but the room was actually nicer than most chain hotels I've stayed in! Don't get me wrong--Sanford, Maine isn't exactly a booming metropolis with high-end dining, shops,…read moreand luxury hotels. So I didn't expect much from the Oakwood. And I did not get much, either. The staff at the Oakwood were very pleasant, which is something that I DO expect from Sanford, Maine. We checked in on a Tuesday night the week of Christmas and were given the keys to Room 110--supposedly the private honeymoon suite in the second building. It left much to be desired. There was a fridge and microwave, as well as a flat screen TV with cable. After that, it was pretty dismal. The best was nothing special, the furniture was massively dated, and the bathroom was unnecessarily huge. The shower was built for folks 5'3" and under. I felt like Andre the Giant. And those tin ceilings they claim are cheap plastic, and the ones in the bathroom were warped. But the biggest gripe about the room was the cleanliness, or lack thereof. The carpeted floors felt gritty with dirt. And our small beagle (kudos to allowing pets, BTW) spent the first 15 minutes sniffing around the room, licking the floor and finding whatever "ground candy" was left behind--under tables, under the radiators, around the fridge. The staff came and cleaned the room on the second day (we used the DND sign the first day) and made the bed and brought new towels in. If they vacuumed, I sure as hell couldn't tell, as the grittiness lingered in the carpets. Also, they need to replace the caulking in the shower--it was jet black with whatever mold and grime has built up. Heinous. We were there for 4 nights, and the total was ~$290. i feel like that was about $90 too much. I'll search for other options the next time I am in Sanford.

The resort is on both sides of Route 153. There are multiple buildings. The check-in office is in the Mill. The staff are incredibly nice and accommodating. Upon entering the Inn, there's a strong, odd smell, but it was not in the room. The room surprised me. We booked a room that had a king bed and 2 twin beds.
