Albuquerque has a great coffee shop scene and rust is gold is just another one of those great options for a good cup. It's a very unique environment and absolutely coffee for dudes, but I like it. In case you didn't realize it is motorcycle themed and they are branding is very unique. They have great options when it comes to dietary restrictions and are very vegetarian friendly. Parking is never a problem and they don't get super busy but in a good way. It's a good place to sit down at work. Bonus points because they now are serving pastries from Fat City which is one of my favorite hidden gems. Their raspberry biscochito bar is absolutely amazing. read more

I've been here several times now and I think I need to re-review. Rust is Gold Coffee is a very popular place. There are always a lot of people here: reasonably varied (just saw a fellow with a shock of pink hair and a retired federal magistrate and his pup sitting at neighboring tables while I had coffee with a Baptist minister). It's sometimes louder than I like. They might have the tunes cranked pretty high and which will make chatting difficult - not a relaxing vibe. Sometimes - today, for instance - the sound level is just fine, though. Lots of nice places to sit (mostly indoors, a few outside), but the ones facing the nuclear sunlight (that's not mitigated by sufficiently tinted glass) may have glare issues when having a conversation with the folks facing inward toward the order counter. Their drip coffee is very good. And their service is friendly. I've not cared for their espresso when I inadvertently got a friend's drink due to server error, but they seem like they put a lot of thought into their froufy drinks - using pumpkin puree for my friend's pumpkin-spice latte today, for instance, following the owners' concerns about such drinks turning too syrupy. Anyhow, I meet people here and consider it a pretty good place to do that. read more

However, I bought 2 "croissants" (they looked exactly like cinnamon rolls, but the counter person told me they were croissants. No biggie.). However the cinnamon roll was tough and stale. I had to pull so hard to break a small piece off that I ripped the paper bag! It was inedible. Please ask how long the pastry has been on the shelf or you will be throwing away your money. I truly love their coffee drinks and go there frequently. I had the lemon shortbread latte today and it is good, but lacking the lemon shortbread flavor. For food, there are little vegan sandwiches. I enjoyed the vegan biscuit sandwich I had. There are also pastries. The space has a cool, unique vibe. I do wish it was cozier rather than so open, with softer chairs, but it's nice for a stop-in for a bit. The coffee I got Lavender Honey Latte was very reasonably priced and tasted just as good. I usually don't drink coffee..and it's definitely strong enough to kick my brain into a tireless working mode..in a good way. The cafe also has an interesting area to just see things about motorcycle, too. Overall, I like it...very good low-key, cool vibe...and not super or too crowded. I just had the best coffee that I have ever had in my life. Hard to believe, you say, you must try it for yourself. This coffee house is a locally owned business and it is unique. I say unique because they have combined coffee and motorcycles, right? It works and it's brilliant! In the back is a motorcycle garage where they work on their racing motorcycles and in the front is a coffeehouse where they roast the coffee. There is a small stage for entertainment and a seating area. There is even a lovely outdoor seating area. The decor is retro and all about the motorcycles. You can purchase t-shirts, mugs, and stickers. One of today's featured beverages was lavender tea with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. I had the house coffee and it was robust and smooth, not bitter with a woody flavor. It reminded me of a fine bourbon. It was to be savored. Did I mention they have a drive through. read more

Rust is Gold has become one of my favorite spots in Albuquerque - for a number of reasons. First, the basics: good coffee, mochas, chai lattes, hot chocolates and specialty drinks. They did a Valentines month coffee special that was great! But as much as the coffee is good, I keep coming back because of the "and motorcycles" "blessed are the wrenchers" vibe. I'm not exactly a biker myself, but the rock and roll and racing thing, the reasonable amount of space and the steady flow of folks who like motorcycles and racing gives it a different feel than any other place around. By the way, it's a not a "biker" place either (not that there's anything wrong with that) but friendly to families and all sorts of people. If you're looking for a different casual place for your coffee and other treats, I hope you'll check it out. read more

In the land of way too many big name chain coffee shops it's refreshing to find a small, local place. The bonus here is they are biker friendly. The interior has motorcycle related goodies on the wall: posters, helmets, signs and a Harley on the route to the restrooms. Ok so their coffee isn't to bad either. Today my drink of choice was a caramel iced latte. We also got the honey lavender iced latte with soy milk. My drink was tasty. The beans were roasted to perfection. They didn't taste burnt or bitter. The coffees weren't watered down either. If you're hungry they have scones & donuts from one of the local shops - Rebel. It was a great experience and worth the drive. I like local, and this place is a great local stop. I only give 5 stars to best in class - this one earned all of them. read more

Their branding is on merch and it's truly a cool place to just hang out sipping coffee. My absolute favorite thing about them is their specials- I've never had a bad one! My favorite so far is the Arnold Palmtree (Arnold Palmer with coconut flavoring) and the Mike's Morning Lemonade (iced latte with lemon cream). DELICIOUS! Where my vintage/classic/racing motorcycle enthusiasts at?!?! Rust is Gold is serving up a mighty fine morning brew in a nostalgic setting inside the very hip ABQ Collective. All of the memorabilia and decor is such a nice touch to compliment the theme of this joint, and the abq collective locale is absolutely perfect! This is the kind of variety that makes our city so awesome, happy Rust is Gold is a part of it! I ordered the house brew, which was strong and satisfying, right up my alley. Some lovely pastries were available, but a few more food options would really make this place soar for me. Breakfast sandwich maybe? Burritos? Even a few simple lunch paninis?
