My wife and I got six raw oysters from May River along with a cup of crab bisque. Good size fresh oysters with an excellent cocktail and tartar sauce. We decided to split the first mate platter. We had a 7:00 reservation at Ma Daisy's Porch and chose upstairs seating. We arrived early, but…read morethere was some confusion with our table because another party was seated at the table we had reserved. We were initially told there wasn't any room upstairs, but after explaining that we had specifically reserved upstairs, we were eventually seated where we had requested. There was actually plenty of seating upstairs, so that was a little frustrating. Once we were seated, things went pretty well. Our waiter let us know they were out of crab dip and catfish. We started with the Greens & Cream appetizer, and it was DELICIOUS! The homemade tortilla chips were so good. My husband had the fish and grits with mac and cheese, and he enjoyed everything. I had the fried scallops with green beans and grits, and my meal was good as well. I also had a bar drink that was really good. There were a few service issues. We had to ask for silverware, and my side substitutions were rung up incorrectly. I also received fries even though I had substituted them, and I didn't receive the hush puppies that were supposed to come with the meal. I ordered a second bar drink that never came, so I eventually asked for it to be removed from the bill. Our waiter was young and overall did a good job, but I think he could benefit from a little more training and attention to detail when taking orders. Overall, the food was good and we enjoyed our dinner. I would recommend giving Ma Daisy's a try, but definitely check your bill and make sure your substitutions are entered correctly. There's room for improvement with the service, but the food was worth the visit!

The upstairs bartender was friendly and he made me a very good extra dirty vodka martini. Before I knew it, our table was ready! We ended up getting seated after a 10 minute wait. We all sat down and as we looked at the menu, we all realized there were many delicious different options to choose from. We started with some raw oysters, the cajun broiled oysters and a basket or two of hush puppies. All of which were so good, I wasn't able to get a picture before we ate it all. The cajun broiled oysters were my favorite!! Then, our server took our entree orders with a smile and made sure to keep our drinks filled as we waited. I ordered the Redfish Special and it was a very big portion. I barely finished my meal and my friend who ordered the same thing ended up taking half of it home. I was expecting the lemon cream sauce to be on top of the fish but I believe it was mixed into the lump crab. It was so delicious, I could have been satisfied with just the fresh lump crab. My sons ate everything off their plates and my husband loved his Trio of shrimp, cod and scallops. This whole place has a great vibe to it.

Our server was Avery who was great at handling 6 old guys. One of my buddies asked for Swiss cheese on his melt and was told they didn't have any. Then Avery said "I might be lying" suggesting she didn't really know since she works mostly at the other Capt Woody's location on HHI. Mine came with American cheese and was delicious. I would have ordered it with Swiss as well if I knew they had it (which they did). The place was quite busy. For ambiance, we saw 2 delivery trucks which provided some loud background noise and blocked our view of downtown Bluffton. Other than that, it was great!!

I had high hopes for this from what I've been told by others. Total disappointment…read more First, the service was awful. We got there 15 minutes after they opened and the only ones seated at the bar. You would think they would be on top of things that early in the evening. Nope, my wife had to wait 18 minutes to get her wine (which we bought the whole bottle). Second, they haven't changed their fryer oil in FOREVER!!!! Yes, I know what I'm talking about. As it being an open kitchen and you can see everything. We witnessed them take oil they just cooked in a pan and dump it in the fryer with the other oil. Are ya kidding me??? All the fried food came out dark as all get out it's been that long since they changed it or even filtered it. Third, some of the cook wore gloves and others didn't. No big deal normally. I watched one cook reach in the garbage and then proceeded to start preparing food!!!! No fing way!!!! Four, the Egg Roll was bland, the inside ingredients was garbage. Over cooked and tough. My wife's filet was under seasoned (well no seasoning at all), a cheap cut of meat and dry!!! The béarnaise sauce tasted and looked like it came out of a jar. It was the worst I've ever tasted. She asked for no vegetables and the risotto instead. She did get the risotto. I'll admit, that wasn't so bad. The bread that was under the filet was ICE cold. Not even sure why they served it or put it on the plate. Fifth, this is a one and done for us. There are soooooo many better options in the area with a better menu, price and service. To say disappointing is an understatement. Oh ya, almost forgot. We had to get a Togo bag and it reminded me of the bags you use to pick up your dogs poop. I'm not even joking.

I wanted to love it, but I found the food to be decent/serviceable. The apps and dessert were strong but the entrees while appealing fell flat for me. The recommended Pork Chop dish fell flat for me, I found it very tough and did not finish it. Forgive me if there are regional differences in the prepartion (like with BBQ). I was solo and sat at the bar as the restaurant was full and that was the only option for a walk-in. However the seating was nice, service was outstanding and super fast. I asked for recommendations and was happy I listened to my waiter. I had the She Crab soup and honestly, it was the best I have ever tasted. It was more like a bisque and super tasty and rich and had lots of crab. I would put this recipe in the She Crab Hall of Fame it was that good. I then ordered the blackened Carolina Redfish and holy moly this dish was devine. It was a chargrilled blackened redfish over super smooth whipped potatoes, generous portion of lump crab, and just the perfect amount of citrus beurre blanc (note I deleted the spinach on my dish) and it was one of the best fish preparation I have ever had. I simply can't believe how delicate and soft and tasty this dish was. Unreal preparation and flavor that I would gladly order again and again. It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

Except for the fried green tomatoes- those were very good, dipped in blue cheese dressing (ranch was bad, tasted like plain mayonnaise with a parsley sprinkle) The pimento cheese appetizer was so disappointing! Tasted like cream cheese mixed with packaged shredded cheddar and 3 small pieces of raw red pepper; served with stale corn chips and uninspired pita. Was so looking forward to good homemade pimento cheese in the south! The grouper sandwich was sad, my friend only ate the fish and left the bun and tomatoes on the plate. The mac and cheese was even sadder, described as baked mac and cheese it was more like old leftovers, cold, separated noodles that were really dry. The shrimp blt salad- the aforementioned fried green tomatoes were the best part. The bacon was cold and floppy and kind of unchewable. It was served on wilted arugula. I'm so confused by all the rave reviews! Maybe this was a one off.
