If you love to cook and been to Gourment Warehouse a few blocks away. Put this on your list also. Russel Hendrix is a restaurant supplier for front of the house and kitchen. I'm an amateur hobby person who assembles food and come in for baking and cooking equipment. They are open to the public. read more

Way overpriced, rude sales staff & slow customer service. I own a restaurant and had Stacey come in to give us a quote on a whole new kitchen line. The quote arrived a month later (after we had already completed the reno) and was double the price of their competitors. Too bad Stacey :( You probably would have made a hell of a commission on that that one. If you want a good deal on restaurant equipment try out restaurant auctions. read more

This place isn't worth any special trip, but it's a neat visit if you're already on Venables for the cool treats at La Casa Gelato. Russell Food Equipment generally caters to restaurants but their show room offers a neat display of the unending varieties of cooking equipment. I found a milk steaming jug here for a friend along with a cooking pot I could literally climb into. Wow, that's giving me freaky cannibal visions...moving on. I'm sure dedicated home chefs would also enjoy this place--just look at the price tags first. read more

In November I was on a search for a special heart shaped waffle maker. All websites showed unavailable except for Russell Hendrix which showed 1 available. When I called, Tony, tracked it down to one of their locations back east. His customer service was exceptional! Thank you Tony (the hopeless romantic) and all the staff involved. I am very pleased! I agree with a bunch of the comments on here. Way over priced compared with competitor pricing just blocks away. Staff indifferent, rude and slow. I got my quotation for my restaurant equipment weeks after the competitors handed theirs to mine. Look elsewhere unless you want to pay more and get bad service. read more

I hope Mr. Russell reads this review and makes some changes to improve his dying business. You know, Russell Food Equipment... you're not so lucky. Being in Vancouver, which is a quick drive's away from the States... no wonder you're the only one around.. it's a hard market. The equipment you sell is expensive and marked up compared to the States grotesquely. Hey everyone, Bargreen Ellison is down the street, it's a US based company with better prices.... go there. Also, Russell doesn't even have a catalogue (or they have one and won't give it) so pretty much you go and ask what they have... and pray to some god that the grouchy old man with glasses sitting at the desk won't bark his way into every interaction with the people there. Mr. Russell... you should look into it... he's ruining your business. The customer service here is insanely bad, hands down the WORST interaction with a business that caters for businesses I've ever had. Everyone is rude rude rude, and not helpful. They want to charge the sh*t out of people. I went in looking for a speed rail for my bar, they had one that was custom made and I asked to see it since it wasn't on the show floor. The grouchy man told the younger guy that I was talking to "charge the restocking fee upfront", what a grouch. He's a real charmer that one. And the definition of troll. I hadn't even seen the product and they didn't even have a picture. So the young guy brought the speed rail out, and it was wrapped in brown paper. Wow that's helpful. I asked if he would open it and he explained what it was... trying to get out of opening it. Dude, if it's the right one, I'll buy it. Think about it, where else does someone go for a speed rail. So I made him open it. And voila. The product wasn't even what he explained. He didn't even know what it was himself. The grouchy old man just had to butt in "See, I told you should've charged the restocking fee", which is 25% by the way and completely ridiculous. Mr. Russell... you should go on undercover boss, I'm pretty sure you would fire 99% of your staffs. Oh and I think they're stealing from your company... apparently you offer 5% off for Cash and Carry, but that doesn't happen in Vancouver, they're probably pocketing the 5% for themselves, just FYI. read more

Ordered two blendtec rapid rinser spray heads which is $250-$300 CAD each on the market, called me back with a quote of 600 some thing. I reassured it's two items every time we talked. When I pick up, I was told I only ordered one unit and they've already charged me $780 in total. it's no deal, I wanted to return the item. And they told me I cannot return unless I pay for a 40% restocking fee. I had no choice but to lose $300 dollars. A 4inch plastic box is just not worth $800. They kept repeating it's company policy which no one ever informed me and it's not even on their website. Such an easy way to earn money. read more

If I was able to give this place zero stars I would. Terrible customer service and really rude staff. This place doesn't care about you after they've received their money. Slow shipments, don't answer calls and e-mails, and half the equipment we ordered was wrong or had a defect when it came in. read more

Russell food is one of the restaurant equipment supplier for a bunch of restaurants across Canada. This place is their showroom which has a bunch (but nowhere close to all) the stuff in their catalog. They have everything from knives, broilers, stoves, $2000 robocoupes, vegetable peelers, dishwashers, etc. Plus Side: - Heavy duty aluminum pans / pots I used to use in my line cook days for under $20. These things are really really heavy, thick bottomed, cheap and durable and you don't have to worry about damaging them. - Cheap knives. The knives they have here are a generic brand and all of them are under $80 if not under $30. I know from experience that these are really durable, easy to sharpen and also cheap. I find that an expensive knife is too bothersome to maintain and sharpen properly and too expensive so these are really ideal and pretty good actually. - Higher quality and cheaper selection of little stuff you pay too much for otherwise, i.e. oil easy pourers, restaurant quality tongs, silicone spatulas, chinacaps, spoons, ladles, etc. - Heavy duty roasting and sheet pans that will never warp for cheap. - Those little clear plastic squeezy bottles to put your batch vinaigrette and sauces in. - Metal bowls you can use for salads and also putting over pots to melt stuff for cheap. The stuff at other stores are too expensive and the dollar store bowls always dent. Downside: - the majority of stuff here is really meant for restaurants. - they don't have everything in the catalog, what I mentioned is pretty much it. I think its worth coming once, especially if you want to save money on pots or knives which is where the real value is. read more

I work for Bandidas Taqueria on the Drive and do most of our ordering through a lovely guy named Mike Dunn. I always appreciate his prompt reply through emails. He gives us all the information we need, even when the item isn't being delivered yet, he will always let us know the approximate time and if it's late, what the reason is for its delay. When I go into the store, I usually talk to one of the floor associates but if Mike is in the room, he always comes by to see if he could help. It could get really busy in the store, and I think sometimes, the rhythm of service is off because some customers require more attention than others. In general, I wish that customers could cut these guys some slack, but obviously, that's not the name of the game. If I had one constructive observation, it would be to create a system where customers who have a couple of items could be checked through quickly (kind of like an express till) while other guests who have more custom and tricky orders can be taken care of without feeling hurried by the line. Mike and the Russell customer service team work really hard. Especially during this merge. So great job guys. Keep up the really lovely work! read more

I have always been a fan of Russell Food Equipment. They have everything that I need for my restaurants.

So I have been doing a lot of pick up orders at Russell for the past few months. I have had continual wonderful service there. The sales team, up at the front have been so great with answering my questions and always grabbing items from the shelves for me. One time, I sprained my ankle and they drove me to the hospital! Haha. The team always makes sure that I'm all set before I head out. THANKS GUYS!! read more

You should really read your reviews and make some changes. I came in to browse around and it seemed like your staff was more interested in each other than providing good customer service. Shall I say stuck up? I felt like I was bothering the staff when I walked in the doors. Maybe you were thinking "who's this new chump who's new to the restaurant biz?".... well guess what?! I am a potential buyer who can make you MONEY! ding ding ding.... YES money to be spent in your store! This place reminds me of an old camera store stuck in the 90s with disgruntled staff who won't let go of film and refuses to go digital. Seems like you guys have a very dated vision of what a business should be.... a good example of that is your website. It kinda sucks. Sorry to break it to you but times have changed. Get out of those bellbottoms and get with the skinny jeans! lol read more

I have been a customer to Russell Food Equipment for 20 years. Last week I sent an email to whomever would listen at RFE along with my phone number stating my complaint and all I got back was an email saying he had talked to his staff and hoped I would return. How pathetic. The service has always been just ok but 2 weeks ago it came to a tipping point. I went in to the countersale office and asked for a Hook Nozzle for a Fischer faucet. Fairly new guy Bill told me they didn't have it and it was a special order. I told him I didn't think it was due to the fact I have bought them there in the past. He argued with me and asked me for the Model number. As if I'm going to know that . I asked for a catalogue so I could show him. After finding it myself , I showed him and he continued to tell me I didn't buy it there or it was a special order. Then his buddy that sits beside him got in on the argument and argued the same point. Giant smurks on their face. Now I was pissed. I'm 54 years old and thick skinned to some degree but this time I just couldn't handle the complete lack of respect. If those were my employees I would have fired them for sure. This wasn't the first time I've had attitude from those two guys. Bill in particular. The Commercial grade faucets and parts are expensive but as contractors we barely get a discount. My other suppliers with offer me a 40% discount. These guys I believe its 5 or 10 % discount. Absolutely ridiculous. I will never step inside those doors again. To take this further I have contacted the Rep for Fischer products and complained telling him if he didn't provide us with a better alternative to purchasing his product, I would ripped out every Fischer product that needs servicing and install a T&S product in its place. read more

The place is like a car show room, all sales people on commission and like to grab you from the other staff. Rude behaviour. Extremely over priced too. Got some quotes for kitchen equipment for my cafe however it was times over the price their competitors quoted for the same thing. Not a pleasant experience at all and will avoid visiting again. read more

Was looking for a solid convection oven for our restaurant, which needed to be ordered. Our sales-rep Tony was extremely knowledgeable about the equipment, power requirements and reliablility. He expedited the order, we got a quick delivery, and our kitchen staff is 'pumped' about the new oven. I whole-heartedly endorse Tony and Russell Food Equipment, especially if you're trying to track down a specialty piece of equipment or something 'more involved' than a spatula or cutlery! read more
