Especially because I've got a diesel and I know they require a special touch. Well, not only was I expecting the bill to be much higher but I honestly wasn't expecting to get it back until Thursday or even Friday. Turns out it was a sensor for the accelerator and they had it ready for pickup on Monday by 3pm! Did not want to take it back and cause another month on top of the two months they had it at their shop. Turns out there was crystal clear water inside my electrical connection that my wiring harness was plugged into. I sopped up the water and fixed it myself. Also had the ac replaced but it doesn't work. Never did. They said it was my fault it was leaking because of some prior damage to the front end. Why even replace it if they knew it wouldn't work? Two days ago, our older Honda Civic blew a wheel bearing while driving on the 101. None of the chain retail auto supply stores had it in stock, but told us they could special order it for $15 and that it would take days to get it. Penny Pincher had it IN STOCK for $3. A day later, we were back on the road! Thank you Penny Pincher! Lots of professional and DIY mechanics come here, so the place is always very busy. Customer service can be great or bad, depending on who you get, but out of the many times that I've dealt with PP, only once did I deal with a rude employee (he was disciplined by the manager later) and the other time, they gave me the wrong part and although they fixed their mixup without complaint, it was annoying to have to wait in that long line, so make sure you have the right part before you leave the store!

I brought the vehicle back, expecting a deeper investigation. Instead, the process dragged on with inconsistent communication. Days would pass without meaningful updates, forcing me to repeatedly contact them about my own vehicle. The vehicle was returned to me again. The same problem returned. This cycle repeated multiple times. Eventually, you stop feeling like your vehicle is being diagnosed and start feeling like you're participating in a guessing game. What bothers me most isn't the money. I understand automotive repairs are expensive and complex problems exist. What bothers me is that the original diagnosis did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue that brought me there. That raises a simple question: If the ECU was a possible cause, why wasn't that discussed before replacing major components and repeatedly returning my vehicle as repaired? I understand vehicles can be difficult to diagnose and technicians are human. What I don't understand is how a customer can pay for repairs, experience the exact same failure within an hour, repeat that cycle multiple times, and still have no resolution. The outcome was simple: I brought them a vehicle with overheating issues and a check engine light. I paid for repairs intended to fix those issues. The same problems repeatedly returned, and I ultimately took my vehicle home with the check engine light still on. Everyone can draw their own conclusions. I would not trust Champs Automotive with another vehicle. I strongly encourage anyone considering major repairs to ask detailed questions, demand clear communication, and consider a second opinion before authorizing expensive work. So I called triple A and had them tow it (less than 4 miles) to the new shop. Anyway, unbenounced to me, they told the new shop that I didn't pay for repairs done at their shop that they did on my car. If that was the case why did they give me my car back without payment and then refer me to this new shop? And even if i didn't, why would you tell the new shop? So they can overcharge me and get them a cut? I don't know. It's just weird and unprofessional.
