Afraid of cataract surgery? I couldn't even put eye drops in prior to my first cataract surgery 5…read moreweeks ago. I didn't know what to expect...so here's some info. They call you back pretty much on time. Make sure to follow directions (no food or drink, someone to stay during your procedure and to drive you afterwards, etc.). You go to holding area. No changing clothes or removing shoes even. Dress comfortably. No makeup, etc. You'll lay on a bed and they start putting eye drops in, asking some questions, I got an IV? (like an IV so they could give me meds to do a block in order to do my surgery, I don't think they do that with all surgeries). Since I was medicated for the block, I ended up in the operating room without knowledge of the trip there. They covered my face and I don't know what else in order to do the procedure. I was aware but it seemed sort of distant. I was aware when Dr. Murrell came in and was talking to me. It seemed like I could see shadows while he was doing the procedure but I didn't see anything coming at my eye nor did I feel the need to blink or dodge something like I thought I would do. I was terrified to have the procedure. I was very nervous. I couldn't even stand to have somebody put eye drops in. I thought I would actually fight the equipment that was holding my eye open while they were doing the procedure. But I didn't even have the urge. It was really not nearly as traumatic as I was expecting. Afterwards, you basically immediately get to drink something and leave. They send you to get something to eat and then you go back to your doctor's office for a quick check. I had Dr. Murrell do my eyes. I am telling my experience with him at the Surgery Center. I don't know if it is the same for pretty much all doctors but you could ask. I just thought I'd try to let other people know of my experience in case you might have some of the same thoughts.

Been going to Dr. Dobler-Dixon for over 2 years for Glaucoma problems. Had surgery on both eyes…read more Dr. Dobler-Dixon is an EXCELLENT doctor with an excellent reputation. Shown by the number of patients requesting her services, waiting room is always packed!! I drive 100 miles on way to see Dr. Dobler-Dixon about every 3 months. She's such an excellent doctor that I'd wait longer if need be......

Five minutes later they come back out to the waiting area. Then wait another 30 minutes at least before being called back in. This happens on average of three times from what I've witnessed. This is ridiculous!!!! Just heard from another patient it's always this way and she's the only one in Amarillo that provides this service!!!!! Calling all eye surgeons!!!! Give Amarillo some options! From my experience I'm willing to drive my mother to Dallas each time just so we can get more attentive care!!!! We have lives too doc!!!!!!!!!!! To add to her incredibly unprofessional management with patients time. She prescribed an eye drop that had to be specially ordered ( which caused my mother to have to go 5 days without her "prescribed" eye drops AFTER surgery ) and would have cost her $183. After I looked into it she could have had the generic of the same drug for $17 and could have gotten right away. I had to demand a different prescription because she had specifically written the prescription for that brand. Even then I had a hard time ( took me two days) getting them to resend it with what my mom could afford. She's getting kickbacks I'm sure and if you request to speak with her on the phone about it you'll bee directed to a "technician". Sketchy practice if you ask me.

I've been wearing glasses for 31 years and contacts for 26, and I've never had to pay that much for a fitting before. So, I said no thanks and asked for my prescription back. They even tried to tell me they didn't have it on file, but I had to grab it myself before leaving. And to top it off, they try to make everyone pay for retinal imaging, which feels like a rip-off. Then, earlier today, my husband had his eye exam and was checking out glasses. They wanted to tack on an extra $100 for some special lenses and stuff, but we had to pass because it wasn't payday yet. But when I went to pay for my own stuff, I overheard them talking trash about us not buying their expensive glasses! It's frustrating that they seem more interested in making money than treating customers right. They should be upfront about their prices so people can make informed choices. I'm also planning to let our insurance company know about how they're treating their members. I'm definitely not going back there or dealing with that company again.
