I guess I didn't appreciate how good Runzas (and the burgers, and fries) really are, and how friendly the service is when I grew up close to their locations. Nowadays when I'm back in the Midwest I don't miss an opportunity to stop and enjoy some. Runzas are based on pierogies, and the fries are crinkle fries. Runza is a Nebraska staple in food. If you haven't tried it you have to try the Runza sandwich with Frings. I prefer the Runza with cheese. This location can get a little busy, especially during the winter months when they do "Temperature Tuesday". They sell a Runza for the price of the temperature that morning. Often times the sandwich is free or only a few cents. All you do is buy fries, or frings, and a pop. The staff here are very nice are always very nice to my younger kids when they get their free ice cream with their kids meals. Going through the drive-thru has been our go-to recently. And we've had good results. Since our disastrous experience with the actual runza sandwiches, I've been sticking to the burgers. Do not sleep on the Runza burgers! They are some of the absolute best in the fast food universe. Quite delicious! And they brought back the French onion dip! This is a total game-changer. There was a time there where we would drive way out West to just go to a Runza location that had the French onion dip. The French onion dip is exquisite and worth every once of gas money. I'm with a group of people (Stadium Journey) who like traveling around the country visiting different sporting venues and writing about our experiences. We had our annual convention in Des Moines in June, and afterwards a few of us decided to head down to Omaha for a Storm Chasers game. One of the things we like checking out in addition to the venues is local restaurants and food fun, so while in Omaha we of course had to check out a Runza. We stopped at this one, the food was excellent, the service was fast, the fries were nothing special but the sandwich was amazing and it was fun to have such a unique food unique to the area while visiting. First time trying after my daughter heard friends talking about r unza. We are new to the area and haven't heard of this chain. We tried the cheese runza, Southwest runza and frings, which, by the way, are crinkle fries and onion rings if you can't decide which you want! Runzas are Differently good! Beef is cooked in onions and cabbage..but not so much to where it overpowers the meat. Adds flavor..who doesn't like that. I'm not big on beef but I enjoyed my southwest runza. Why isn't this chain national yet? Personally, I'm a big fan of their original Runza sandwiches, which are similar to Russian and Eastern European pirozhki, for those of you familiar with those. (I believe the founders were Czech.) They also have some of the best fast food fries and onion rings ever. It's not the Four Seasons, you know, but for fast food, it's pretty damn good, and a lot more unique than all the McDonald's/Burger King rip-off hamburger chains. My main gripe has always been that they sell Pepsi products and Sprite is about the only pop I like, but that's minor. read more

I am not native to Nebraska but absolutely love Runza. They make really good double cheese burgers (my favorite) and their krinkle cut french fries one of the best in the Omaha area. Especially right out of the fryer. Recently, I ordered 200 of their mini original and cheese Runza's for my son's graduation party. They agreed to have them ready by a certain time and when I arrived they were ready, boxed, hot and ready to go! Needless to say they were a big hit among those whom attended the party. They were wrapped and the guests just loved the idea. Wish I can say it was my idea but no one needs to know. I must say I had one or two and they were absolutely delicious. I appreciate their timeliness and willingness to ensure everything was ready to go. I hear that Runza's are an acquired taste however what's not to love! I feel sorry for the folks that do not get to experience quality fast food that restaurants like Runza provide. We are getting to the day and age where we expect our burgers to contain paper-thin previously frozen patties of beef and filler, and places like this are thankfully sticking to their roots! Honestly, I have never been a fan of the original Runza sandwich, the cabbage doesn't agree with my stomach, but their burgers are amazing. Thick, juicy, fresh toppings, quality bun, everything I look for in a burger. Crinkle-cut fries will always be "Runza fries" in my heart! Onion rings are usually perfect but every once and a while they overcook them. What else can I say? If you've never had a Runza, you must try one. The hamburgers are good as well. The kids' meal comes with an ice cream cone that you can enjoy during your visit or at a later time (the voucher is on the sack, so don't throw it away!) .
