Had the worst experience of my life. Ordered prime rib and they cooked it on a grill so I asked to return it and the owner who was belligerent told us that he refused to give us credit for it and he wasn't giving us anything else and told us that we were banned from the restaurant that he really wasn't himself and it was a bar so I don't know he was sitting at the bar, then he had the nerve to wish me a merry Christmas on the way out. We have been coming to this very local restaurant for years. The food is always consistent and delicious the raw clams were so fresh. I was there on Sunday meeting another couple that picked the place. The Mozzarella and Tomatoes were nice. The fried calamari was not hot at all. 2 of the 3 entrees that should have been hot were not even close. The cake was old and dried up 2 days before they served it to us. This place is the shiniest diamond in the rough...here's why!!! We went to Runyon's by chance on New Years Eve. I wasn't expecting much, like maybe a good burger? I was so pleasantly surprised!! We walked in through the front door and made our way to the dining room area. It was so nice! Big booths with privacy walls and no noise overflow from the bar. Our server was Ryan, who was so knowledgeable and friendly. He was wearing a tie! Not just a burger spot after all! We started with a perfectly made dirty martini. (Which is always telling if a place is good or not.) Next, we split a garden salad with the housemade Thousand Island...to die for!! For dinner I got the sizzling steak and incredible horseradish sauce. I loved the combo, so sweet with a perfect tangy bite. And I topped it off with a perfect baked potato with lucious sour cream! It was a memorable dinner to end 2018! We finished the night in the bar area with Matty and Rob. Such fun guys! The bar was beautifully decorated for the holidays and their DJ was incredible!! So we used to go to Runyons when we lived in Massapequa many years ago. We alway liked it. We decided to try again on a random Sunday. First issue was there is no accessible seating areas. There is a step to get into back room and then there are steps to get to the booths in the bar area. So we made do at the bar. As far as Food. We had the Irish egg roll appetizer. It was a special and quite good. The cheeseburger I had was good as well. French dip not so good. Roast beef was so dry you could barely swallow. Would I go back? Probably not. American Tavern. Runyon's has been around forever and for good reason - excellent food and service. The menu is extensive (although the chef must own a Gorgonzola factory as it seems that every other dish has Gorgonzola in it) enough to keep you from making a quick decision. The appetizers are just as heavy with seafood as the other dishes are with Gorgonzola- they need to balance out the menu a bit. The coolest thing is that in addition to the standard basket of bread, they drop a crudite' assortment to pick on while awaiting your food - a nice touch. Dine or Ditch? Dine... Although I wouldn't Run-yonself over there (I'm sorry about that one) I went for the first time today for lunch with my sister. We didn't try much, but this place seemed to offer pub classics. Burgers, wings, Irish nachos, and of course beer. I had the pull pork sandwich. It was very nice sized and came with fries, cole slaw, and a pickle. The sandwich itself was alright. It didn't wow me and I'm not dying to go back, but I wouldn't be against it either. The fries were actually very, very tasty. They were the right amount of potato for me and they were crisp and tasted fresh. It was definitely my favorite part of the meal. They slaw was also pretty good. They seemed to have both the mayo and vinegar type of slaw. I preferred the mayo, but the vinegar one had some interesting spice to it which was also pretty nice. I also took a bite of my sister's burger. It was prepared well and was just a basic burger (the way she wanted it). I would like to give the burger another shot and maybe check out their BATS burger with avocado and bacon. When I eventually get back to Runyons I'll be sure to update as that will most likely be my next meal there. Our waiter seemed fun and was very helpful. He went through the sides and the details of each with my sister since she couldn't decide if her life depended on it. Being busy busy busy, as per usual I have not been here in quite some time. Nonetheless I'm transported to "cheers" where not everyone knows my my name but the awesome bartender sure remembers it. He also remembers that I was about to leave for Peru the last time I was there .....over 8 months ago. This is the service you can expect when you go to runyons. The rest is all gravy.... As is the delicious steak I ordered. Makes me think of all the times I should've left a review. Like the many times I arrive here to meet a friend & the bar is crowded. First thought is "I'll never get a drink". But I don't have time to finish that thought as one of the awesome bartenders has managed to sense I need a beverage & is already asking what my pleasure is. Obviously I'm a fan.
