We went here because I heard that it was good. It was not. Service was slow even though there was only us and another couple in the whole restaurant. And she didn't seem to know the menu at all. Even though she wasn't swamped our water glasses weren't filled and she didn't come to check on us after we had our food to see if we were enjoying our dishes. Beer I had was flat. Place was dated and probably haven't been changed since the 90s. It was depressing like an old folks home It was pricey. We didn't realize that when we ordered the burgers that the side of fries was an extra 7 bucks. 7 bucks! We paid 17 bucks for the burger and then an extra stupid amount for a side. This is not Ruth Chris's. The only reason why they are not getting one star is because the burgers were juicy and tasty and the fries were crisp. I have no complaints of the taste of the food. However, it left a bad taste in my mouth on how much we were paying for a simple burger and fries. Skip this place. Find somewhere else. read more

We went there because it's close to work. Parking didn't seem to be an issue. Everything was pretty straight forward. The staff were interrupting constantly while we were eating and were in the middle of conversations! At one point a waitress wanted to take my plate while we still had some food left! Haha The food was ok but in general I didn't enjoy my experience and I probably won't go back there. read more

This lounge is up the stairs or elevator when you walk in the door beside the main hotel doors. I came here for a special event where the whole lounge was booked so not quite the same experience as coming for a meal. It was comfortable with 2 loveseats and the rest were tables and chairs, and also high tables and bar stools. They had the drinks on the bar and it was self serve which made it easy. They had coffee, juices, water, and pop. The food was laid on with the hot food on one side of the tables and the salads on the other side. The salads included pasta with lots of ham, potato, greens with chunks of cucumber and tomato, and fruit. The other side with the hot food had chicken breast in sauce, pasta, breakfast sausage, bacon, French toast, scrambled eggs, and breakfast potatoes. You can't really go wrong with the food selections, although the chicken was a bit dry. The service was very attentive to take away empty plates and glasses. The lounge had numerous TVs if you want to watch the game and have a drink and food. It's also pretty large and with seating on the outer perimeter with large windows to look outside. We had Big boy breakfast and divided in 2 plates. It was huge! Two people could not finish it! Everything was tasty. The food was regular dinner food, nothing fancy. Today was my second ever visit to this establishment and I'm sad to report after two years we pretty much have the same problem: Short staffed and overpriced. My husband and I ordered nachos with no jalapenos and two beer. He had a problem with his bank card at the atm machine and his cell phone died. So he asked if he could borrow their phone, they (the waitress and bartender) would not allow him to make a quick call to the bank to figure it out. We wanted to try a few dollars in the vlts We were able to pay for our order with the debit card and a tip . However; the waitress was now rude and when she brought our nachos I made a small comment that she was right it was a large platter, her response was a mumble. The nacho's were burnt, full of jalapenos and the service was bad. In the past I had arranged for medium size groups to meet here for get together s, I will find another place now. I have been here a few times now, one of the clubs that I belong to seems to just love this place. The service here has always been phenomenal. The wait staff is very friendly and will go that extra mile for your table. That being said, the food is just okay. It is rather pricey for the quality that you are getting. You can see by the menu that they are trying to be innovative, but the delivery is lacking. If it wasn't for the friendly service, I don't know that I would go back. No local craft beer on tap. Very limited selection for beer drinkers. This pub used to have a beautiful view of Runway 29, which is where it got its name. I don't know what the future brings for their view, but for now it's pretty fantastic. The pub is located above the Tim Horton's across from Kingsway Mall. I am sure I will be back again for more meetings, but it will likely be just for drinks. read more

Possibly the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in my life. We came here for breakfast on a weekday morning as we were staying at the Best Western for a business meeting and the front desk suggested it (they are owned by the same owners). We arrived at 7:25. There was one table of three ahead of us reviewing menus. About 10 minutes after we arrive another table of twocame in...otherwise the place was empty. It took about 15 min to get out 2 teas and a coffee and the waiter brought one spoon. He then took our order for food. By 8:15, we still had nothing to eat and had to leave for our meeting. Somewhere around 7:40 we had told him we needed to be out of there by 8. As we waited, we'd ask him what was going on and he'd just shrug. At one point he asked us if we wanted to pay ahead so we could leave earlier. We said not without seeing some food. Good thing because it never came. Finally had to give up and leave without having breakfast. The waiter offered a weak apology. One of our party members (there were 3 of us) went back up a few minutes after we left as she forgot something. The waiter saw her and said "oh there is food now if you are still interested". Had a good experience here with five others. The waitress was quick and didn't even need to right down any of our orders. She remembered everything and it was all correct. Everyone of us ordered something different and it all looked good and we didn't have to wait long either. Place has a good view of the now unused Airport so maybe over the years this place will have to change its name. I only have one gripe about this place. Their wings are a bit pricey though. You get a pound of wings for $13 and it looked like there was only 12-13 on the plate. $1 per wing? Come on man! Maybe there's a wing night for cheap. Not sure. read more

The food was gross, the service was beyond slow you may actually die from dehydration waiting for a refill and best part we were the only people there. My son had a chocolate milk which rang up at $2 on the bill and when he got a refill it was an extra $4 I think someone's not too bright ! I went to Runway 29 for brunch one Sunday after reading a review saying that they do breakfast better and cheaper than nearby Smitty's in Kingsway Garden Mall. When we sat down (at around 11:30am) and received lunch menus, my girlfriend and I were a bit disappointed. We'd come here for the promise of a good brunch. We asked the server about brunch and she said, "We normally stop serving breakfast at 11, but I'll ask the cook if he'd be willing to make something for you." After consulting with the cook, she returned with a breakfast menu for each of us. While the prices were more or less the same as those at Smitty's or Denny's (contrary to what I had read), the food was of better quality. Generally, I don't think of pubs as good places for breakfast, but Runway 29 does it well, perhaps because it's situated in a hotel (I believe the pub's kitchen also serves room service orders). I ordered a back bacon omelette and my girlfriend ordered the steak and eggs (which is the most inexpensive steak and eggs I can think of...I almost ordered it for myself, as well). Both of us were very satisfied with our meal. In fact, my girlfriend was unable to finish her food, and had to have it packed up to go. There was a problem with the steak being cooked incorrectly, but it the error was handled quickly and with the grace that a restaurant should have when responding to any problem with the food. While Runway 29 doesn't win any points for it's decor---it looks like a bit like a small town bar, with sports on the TVs and VLTs in the corner---the huge windows provide wonderful natural light for early birds coming in to grab breakfast. If you're in the area and you're looking for a good breakfast, skip the line at Smitty's and head across the street to Runway 29 Pub. read more

This place treated us terribly. We were asking the server about certain items on the menu and she was no help. She was really rude and told us to just order. I have never left a place before but this girl was too much. She was no help and just turned us off completely so we left. The reason I did not give this place 1 star is because I have heard good things about it and don't think its fair to judge the entire place on one person who may or may not have been having a bad day. The portions are large, but the prices measure up. The roasted walnuts in the $17 loaded sweet potato fries were rancid (not going, not slightly, but as if they had been cut and stored quite a while ago - I choose to think it wasn't the oil). Be aware that they charge the large-group gratuity of 18% for groups of more than 8 people. (I saw 15% in another review, I'm not sure if it's somehow tiered or simply went up in the past year. I know it is quasi-standard practice in the industry, but the "just to remind you" after the bill came was technically "informing", not "reminding" me about it - no, I hadn't asked and it wasn't much anyway, but good to keep in mind.) Located near the city airport, this little pub is not a place I'd normally go, but I ended up here once after a crazy stint of Christmas shopping at Kingsway Garden Mall across the street and we were starving when we headed back to the car and Runway was right in front of us. For this reason, I enjoyed the place more than I might have on any other occasion. We climbed the stairs to the second-storey pub, were promptly seated and collapsed onto comfy leather couches, leaving our bags at our feet. There was a fire going, and the place was dimly lit and soothing after the fluorescent mall lighting. We ordered comfort food. Beef dip, Caesar salad, fries, cold beers. The meal was satisfying and filling. After another beer, we felt a bit rejuvenated and decided to stick around and play darts and pool at the opposite end of the bar. It wasn't that busy, and the full 360-degree panoramic view on the second floor had a beautiful view of the skyline as it changed colours and got dark. There were pretty white Christmas lights all around us. It was the perfect evening to unwind and get into the holiday spirit. read more

I have been checking out places in this city for a few years now. I like to get out there and see who is doing what. My friends told me about this place that apparently has been around forever. They said Runway 29!! I never heard of it. They told me it was under new management and had been recently renovated. Whatever, I decide to check it out. I talked to the Assistant Restaurant Manager, Tara I think her name is. She told me the owners had sunk a million dollars into renovating the kitchen and dining room. Wow, it sure looks nice. What a great view of the downtown area and airport. Lots of big bay windows.... definitely a cute and quaint place to entertain a date or hang with my buddies. They had a nice selection of draft that I like so much. Apparently they brought in this Red Seal Chef who worked in Afghanistan with the troops. He sure knows his stuff cause their new menu kicks ass. Lots of favorites that I know and love with some new twists on things. I was told they make everything "in house" or only shop local businesses. I like that!! The food tasted so fresh and came out quick considering how busy the place was. I had a Road Rage burger and it was massive. Crispy onion tanglers, bacon and spicy Jalapeno Havarti cheese on my made in house burger patty. The bun ( a one of kind Sourdough Kaiser) is made only for them by the Italian Bakery. It was awesome and I had no room left for dessert although I wish I did. The Red Velvet chocolate cake looked so good. All in all, I like this place alot and I am coming back again for the awesome service, great view and even better food.
