Carlos and Jessica were great!! Sounds like Carlos's humor is not for everyone based on some of the reviews, but I loved his sarcastic sense of humor and jokes. My mom, sister, and I all had a guided trail ride on their gaited horses. They tailored the ride to our experience level and what we wanted to do. All of the horses looked very happy and well cared for. We had an awesome ride and I recommend this facility. Thanks for providing such a wonderful experience for us!! :)

Had a wonderful ride at Running Horse Ranch. Carlos was funny and easy to arrange my ride with. His ranch hands were wonderful as well!

My new girl who made it safely to me thanks to Carlos!

There aren't enough stars on all of Yelp to say how amazing the folks at Running Horse Ranch are! I had a horse being transported across the US when everything went wrong. My horse was stranded in one place after another and it was getting less and less likely she would make it to me safely and in good health. I found Carlos from a horse stopover website and without doing my normal review-hunting, went ahead and booked a night for my horse to stay at his "motel." Turns out, this must have been divine intervention because my horse could not have ended up with better people than Carlos and Judi at Running Horse Ranch. They took the best care of her and kept me updated. They were even able to bring her to me so I didn't have to take off work and drive to Albuquerque (12 hours round trip). It's so rare to meet genuinely kind and honest people. I hope that I'll get to go down and ride at the ranch sometime, maybe even with my own horses! But if you are looking for a place to trail ride or board, please put Running Horse Ranch at the top of your list!

    On the Rio Grand!

Carlos and his team gives a great riding experience and tailors the ride to the experience and confidence level of the rider. Morgan and her assistant (forget her name) were very helpful making sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the beautiful nature. The horses were very healthy, loved and well trained. Don't forget your water and sunblock!! Great way to spend 2 hours in ABQ!

Awesome horses and friendly folks = nothing but a good time! Beautiful trail rides along the Rio Grande for small or large groups. All ages and riding abilities welcome! If you're looking for lessons, leasing, or boarding, Carlos has you covered there too! What are you waiting for?

Things to do in Albuquerque...loved the staff and horses! Had a great ride through the trees and near the river. Tip--try to bring more than 2 people in your group for more fun!

Had a wonderful private ride here. I forget the girls name who took me out but it was a much needed ride - good horse time which is always needed. They guys at the ranch were awesome and whoever I spoke to on the phone to set up the ride had a special character all his own. Hilarious! I'd stop here again and recommend them to anyone. I was just traveling thru town but other Yelp comments drew me into choosing this location and it was well worth it. I was there the 9th or 10th of Jan. 2019, I believe. Thanks for a great ride

Great place to be and enjoy connecting with nature right in the middle of the city! Affordable prices and a great time.

Five stars Never ridden a horse in my life and neither had my 8-year-old daughter. The guides were really patient/helpful and made riding easy and approachable. They were great with kids. Ignore the poor reviews; we had a great time on our trail ride -- we'd both do it again in a heartbeat.

This is definitely one of those reviews that I hesitate to write. This little gem of a horseback…read moreriding business has been in Albuquerque's backyard since 1989, and until last week, I had no idea it existed. During the Great Bathroom Tissue Famine, we'd pulled our hair out trying to find something, anything, for our kiddo to DO on the weekend, what with the masking and the distancing and the rest. Following just one visit, I'm very confident we've found our southwestern huckleberry. First, ya gotta sit down with the owner of this place, Margo(t?). She's a card. Running this ranch out of a comfortable double-wide on the high plains of Corrales, she's been there, done that and watched the area morph, over the years, from rags to riches. All the while, she's taken in rich and poor kids -- girls, mainly -- and turned them into equine stewards. As opposed to other ranches around the 505 (we've explored), High C Acres begins by teaching kids to groom, saddle and care for the horses. Our daughter's first lesson ran more than two and a half hours, and I won't quote the incredible price. Margo says she generally has between 30-40 students, of all ages and walks of life, at any given time. These people arrange regular, hour-long visits, to ride and care for the beautiful beasts. She's quick to explain the actual costs of horse ownership, particularly following a mild winter when feed costs are bound to escalate. My kid enjoyed a distanced, masked introduction to this way of life, alongside one of her good friends. It's likely the best money we've spent on Famine entertainment since we all began hoarding. Don't be surprised if there's simply no room at the stable when you call.

My daughter is 7 and began working with Liz July 2024. She started with her summer camp & then…read morebegan weekly lessons. We have been extremely loyal clients - never missed a lesson & Liz even had my daughter help new students from time to time. Everything went well for the past 7ish months but things changed on our session (Feb 8th), & we unfortunately experienced the side of Liz that other negative reviews have mentioned. We arrived to our appointment about 10min early as usual. Liz was not there yet but like normal my daughter went to the tack room and got all the supplies ready for the horse she has been riding for the past few months (Brick.) Once Liz got there, I said bye to my daughter & went to my car (Liz does not allow parents to watch their kids.) About 5min passed and my daughter ran up to my car sobbing, I thought she was injured (she has NEVER cried the way she did that day, and certainly never acted this way during a lesson.) She explained to me that Liz was demanding that she ride a different horse than her usual horse. Liz wanted my daughter to ride a horse named Sonata & my daughter has ridden this horse in the past but has expressed very clearly that this horse makes her uncomfortable/ scared because it gets spooked easily. I got out of my car & went to talk to Liz (who was clearly annoyed and upset with my daughter.) I told Liz that my daughter (7YO) is nervous with that horse, can we try a different horse. Liz proceeded to belittle my daughter in front of another student and told her "a real horse girl can ride any horse" and "you are making me very cranky today." I was shocked!!! I didn't know what to say or do, so I insisted that she let my daughter ride a horse she was comfortable with. It states on the website that riders are matched with horses for a comfortable and enjoyable riding experience, why would my 7YO be forced to ride a horse she was afraid of when their were so many other options!? So finally Liz agree's to let her ride Bonnie, and my daughter feels much better about this horse. After this situation, I decided I'd sit on the benches near the tack room, rather than go back to my car incase my daughter needed me. Liz gives me a nasty look and tells me "you need to leave my property, bye now!" - keep in mind, I've sat at those benches countless times with other parents. I went to sit in my car, & during that time I saw Liz leave my daughter/ the other student & go talk to her staff multiple times! It is now 40min into the lesson and they are barely getting to the arena to ride. The lesson ran almost 30min overtime & caused the next group of kids to be late for their lesson. Liz blamed my daughter & told her that they were running behind because of her "bad behavior." My daughter left this lesson in tears & it took so much reassurance for her to understand that this was not her fault. If a child is uncomfortable they should feel safe to express their feelings & a good teacher/ instructor would have the patience and compassion to help the child feel safe. Liz did the exact opposite, blamed my child, and made her feel horrible. Let's get this straight - my daughter was not crying/ upset because she wasn't able to ride the horse she has been with for months (Brick). She was crying and upset because Liz was demanding and angry that my daughter was fearful of riding Sonata, (but she was happy & willing to ride Bonnie!) I knew after this experience I would never return & risk my daughter being bullied/ treated unfairly especially when I am not around to defend her - she is a little girl! To top it all off, Liz (without my consent) charged me an extra $10 for that lesson because of "my daughters bad behavior and for putting her behind schedule for the rest of the day." Be very cautious taking your child here, as Liz has a tendency to switch her emotions quickly. This leads to fear, anxiety, & major damage to a child's confidence within this amazing sport. Luckily there are many other stables who focus on child safety, comfort, and even allow the parents to watch their kids ride!

I'm really disappointed in this company. After reading the reviews on here (the most useful ones,…read moreironically, being filtered), I was keeping my fingers crossed that Romero's Thunder would honor the LivingSocial package I purchased. I emailed them to schedule a ride time in early May and they were completely booked up for 2 WHOLE MONTHS with no weekend rides. I asked at least 3 or 4 times if they could let me know if there were any cancellations but never heard anything (in fact, when i asked about weekend ride times they never even responded to my question). We finally scheduled a time for over two months out during the week. I confirmed the appointment a few days before (because after I sent them my LivingSocial voucher number I never heard anything back). We planned our day around it, took off work, etc. Low and behold, they cancelled a few hours before the ride when we were getting ready to walk out the door saying that there was a death in the family. I understand that situations happen but based on the other reviews it seems there's a lot of last minute emergencies, illnesses, and deaths. I wasn't impressed with their email etiquette (NO IT'S NOT OK TO SEND AN EMAIL TO A CUSTOMER IN ALL CAPS) or responsiveness- it took 2-3 days to ever get a response. All in all, even if the ride had happened and been great, I still would not be impressed with their customer service. I was really looking forward to this and hoping for the best but when scheduling is a 2 month (minimum) ordeal then they cancel, that is not good business. I'm normally willing to give small businesses the benefit of the doubt but based on the experience leading up to this and the prior reviews that indicate this is a common occurrence, I"m more than a bit skeptical. I responded to their cancellation email nearly a week ago and inquired when the ride could be rescheduled and have yet to hear back. *crickets* If they wow me in the follow up that they promised, then I'm completely willing to edit my review but I'm not holding my breath. _______________________ Update: 15 DAYS and I finally got a reply to my email. Bad business and not one that I am willing to support. Not even an apology for the delay or for the cancellation. Talk about making your customers feeling like you don't give a crap about them.

They don't have anyone available to answer the phone and "require a minimum of 3 days to respond". Its a terrible business practice, if a company is so busy they can't answer the phone, ever, and take 48 hours to respond to email, then they can afford to hire someone. I finally heard back from the company by email after my 3rd attempt, but availability was so limited, I was unable to use my voucher, only a few weekdays available for over 3 months.
