Upon our arrival on the day of the ride, he inquired about my nephew's and niece's weights. My nephew stated he weighed 310 pounds and my niece said she weighed 235 pounds. The cutoff is 240 pounds, so he insisted on charging an additional person's fee. It should have been $120.00 plus, but I was charged $165.00. He then told my nephew, "You're paying," to which I replied, "No, I am paying for him." Carlos then remarked, "I wouldn't pay for him; I don't even let my son ride for free. Why would you pay for him?" This was very rude and made my nephew feel terrible about his weight. I would never return or recommend this place to anyone.

We had both a great ride and a great chat throughout. The kids were first time riders and paired with great horses - Cory & Addie. We also had a lot of fun feeding the horses and goats and donkeys once we were back-i've never seen the kids laugh as hard as when the goats stood on their backs! Give Lorenzo a raise!…read more My wife and I were vacationing with friends in Santa Fe who have family in NM and had been on these rides a few times before. My wife is a former show rider, so we all made the drive down for an evening ride. I was put on Hollywood, who is a good boy, despite his headstrong nature. With us were a family visiting from London: Mum, Dad, and two sons aged 10 and 7. Our guide was leading us, and Lorenzo the wrangler was bringing up the rear. The ride itself was beautiful, and relatively calm, if a little boring- there wasn't much commentary, and we didn't get to go up and see any petroglyphs, which I was told would happen, although I wasn't the one who booked it or looked into things beforehand. Part of this may have been due to the fact that the older child's horse, Johnny Cash, was going very slowly, so only myself and my friend were up with the guide while the rest of the party was a ways behind with Lorenzo. We were about 2/3 of the way through and on the loop back when Johnny Cash started actively ailing, and twice tried to lie down with the older kid still riding. The kid was fine, as everyone was paying good attention, and he jumped off like they told him to with no problem. The first time he got back up on the horse, but the second time we stopped and decided that Johnny Cash was in no shape to continue. Our guide was understandably distressed, and was trying to coordinate pickup from the ranch while keeping the rest of us steady and safe. The stopping and Johnny Cash's distress also started getting to our horses; Hollywood was especially ornery, and our guide wisely instructed me to dismount, and my wife later had to get off hers as well due to its attitude. Eventually reinforcements arrived and were able to cart us back to the ranch, and they didn't charge us, although we all made donations. Cash's distress was the most upsetting part, which wasn't anybody's fault, but he did start trying to drop and roll, which could have quickly caused fatal intestinal torque. It was at this point that Lorenzo leapt into action with a calm professionalism that a U.S. Marine under fire could only dream of. He rigorously kept Cash walking for most of the time to clear his intestinal blockage, and when the horse tried to roll, Lorenzo kept him in check. Lorenzo's own horse, Malibu, cantered off a short distance during the ruckus, but he kept his calm and eventually retrieved her when he was done. All the while night was falling, coyotes started howling in the distance, and he fielded constant questions and comments from the kids with an easygoing charm that never dropped. At one point he was calmly leading two or three of the ornery horses. I hope Johnny Cash is okay, but at least I know that he walked back to the stable on his own four hooves, and we have Lorenzo to thank for that.

A well manicured Park, paved bike trails, turtles,…read moreducks, big climbing trees, a rose garden, other gorgeous flowers, bridges, sandbar beaches and a river. There are even bathrooms when there is no Covid pandemic crap happening but during this they put out "Porta potty's" (don't understand really how they are any better or safer or anything really) but they are there. Most of the river is knee to waist deep but there are currents. There is a place to launch your kayak if you want also. And right down the road you can rent horses and go horseback riding. It's great. Weekdays are less people but even the weekend isn't bad. I love to cleanse my crystals and meditate and get nice and grounded. You'll want to thank me if you go! Go!!! It's free too.

My daughter is 7 and began working with Liz July 2024. She started with her summer camp & then…read morebegan weekly lessons. We have been extremely loyal clients - never missed a lesson & Liz even had my daughter help new students from time to time. Everything went well for the past 7ish months but things changed on our session (Feb 8th), & we unfortunately experienced the side of Liz that other negative reviews have mentioned. We arrived to our appointment about 10min early as usual. Liz was not there yet but like normal my daughter went to the tack room and got all the supplies ready for the horse she has been riding for the past few months (Brick.) Once Liz got there, I said bye to my daughter & went to my car (Liz does not allow parents to watch their kids.) About 5min passed and my daughter ran up to my car sobbing, I thought she was injured (she has NEVER cried the way she did that day, and certainly never acted this way during a lesson.) She explained to me that Liz was demanding that she ride a different horse than her usual horse. Liz wanted my daughter to ride a horse named Sonata & my daughter has ridden this horse in the past but has expressed very clearly that this horse makes her uncomfortable/ scared because it gets spooked easily. I got out of my car & went to talk to Liz (who was clearly annoyed and upset with my daughter.) I told Liz that my daughter (7YO) is nervous with that horse, can we try a different horse. Liz proceeded to belittle my daughter in front of another student and told her "a real horse girl can ride any horse" and "you are making me very cranky today." I was shocked!!! I didn't know what to say or do, so I insisted that she let my daughter ride a horse she was comfortable with. It states on the website that riders are matched with horses for a comfortable and enjoyable riding experience, why would my 7YO be forced to ride a horse she was afraid of when their were so many other options!? So finally Liz agree's to let her ride Bonnie, and my daughter feels much better about this horse. After this situation, I decided I'd sit on the benches near the tack room, rather than go back to my car incase my daughter needed me. Liz gives me a nasty look and tells me "you need to leave my property, bye now!" - keep in mind, I've sat at those benches countless times with other parents. I went to sit in my car, & during that time I saw Liz leave my daughter/ the other student & go talk to her staff multiple times! It is now 40min into the lesson and they are barely getting to the arena to ride. The lesson ran almost 30min overtime & caused the next group of kids to be late for their lesson. Liz blamed my daughter & told her that they were running behind because of her "bad behavior." My daughter left this lesson in tears & it took so much reassurance for her to understand that this was not her fault. If a child is uncomfortable they should feel safe to express their feelings & a good teacher/ instructor would have the patience and compassion to help the child feel safe. Liz did the exact opposite, blamed my child, and made her feel horrible. Let's get this straight - my daughter was not crying/ upset because she wasn't able to ride the horse she has been with for months (Brick). She was crying and upset because Liz was demanding and angry that my daughter was fearful of riding Sonata, (but she was happy & willing to ride Bonnie!) I knew after this experience I would never return & risk my daughter being bullied/ treated unfairly especially when I am not around to defend her - she is a little girl! To top it all off, Liz (without my consent) charged me an extra $10 for that lesson because of "my daughters bad behavior and for putting her behind schedule for the rest of the day." Be very cautious taking your child here, as Liz has a tendency to switch her emotions quickly. This leads to fear, anxiety, & major damage to a child's confidence within this amazing sport. Luckily there are many other stables who focus on child safety, comfort, and even allow the parents to watch their kids ride!

My 12 kids love it here and they come every Tuesday. Highly recommend 10 out of 10, would go again.read more
