Upon our arrival on the day of the ride, he inquired about my nephew's and niece's weights. My nephew stated he weighed 310 pounds and my niece said she weighed 235 pounds. The cutoff is 240 pounds, so he insisted on charging an additional person's fee. It should have been $120.00 plus, but I was charged $165.00. He then told my nephew, "You're paying," to which I replied, "No, I am paying for him." Carlos then remarked, "I wouldn't pay for him; I don't even let my son ride for free. Why would you pay for him?" This was very rude and made my nephew feel terrible about his weight. I would never return or recommend this place to anyone.

That was until I met Carlos, the owner, who was rude the minute I introduced myself. I thought it was fun at first but, after weeks of going, the rude comments really started to pick at my recovering brain. I was told by other leasees not to let him get to me (they were all great btw) but, as a former drug addict who learned to love and appreciate myself again, I found myself almost in tears from his rude comments rather than enjoying my time by connecting with the horses. Out on the trail was wonderful, but being belittled by Carlos almost every visit made me feel stupid and unworthy of someday becoming an experienced rider. I am not the greatest but I do know how to ride. What ended my ties with Running Horse Ranch is the day he called me a liar. Anyone in recovery knows how much we, as addicts, work so hard to earn trust again and have that liar label ripped off of our chests. I know Carlos doesn't care but I really hope he takes his rudeness into consideration before he says anything. We don't know what people have been through or what are going through and negative comments can really run someone into the ground. If he wants to be a grumpy old man then fine, be that way, but as a businessman, don't treat your paying customers like s***. I really wanted to take my family out and enjoy the trails with me when I leased, but I also did not want to expose a 6 year old to potential rudeness out of the fear of what Carlos might say. In conclusion, I would not recommend coming here unless you are used to being verbally abused on the regular. Find a place that will treat you kindly, that is the best decision I made and I am finally reconnecting with my passion of horses and riding again.

During the Great Bathroom Tissue Famine, we'd pulled our hair out trying to find something, anything, for our kiddo to DO on the weekend, what with the masking and the distancing and the rest. Following just one visit, I'm very confident we've found our southwestern huckleberry. First, ya gotta sit down with the owner of this place, Margo(t?). She's a card. Running this ranch out of a comfortable double-wide on the high plains of Corrales, she's been there, done that and watched the area morph, over the years, from rags to riches. All the while, she's taken in rich and poor kids -- girls, mainly -- and turned them into equine stewards. As opposed to other ranches around the 505 (we've explored), High C Acres begins by teaching kids to groom, saddle and care for the horses. Our daughter's first lesson ran more than two and a half hours, and I won't quote the incredible price. Margo says she generally has between 30-40 students, of all ages and walks of life, at any given time. These people arrange regular, hour-long visits, to ride and care for the beautiful beasts. She's quick to explain the actual costs of horse ownership, particularly following a mild winter when feed costs are bound to escalate. My kid enjoyed a distanced, masked introduction to this way of life, alongside one of her good friends. It's likely the best money we've spent on Famine entertainment since we all began hoarding. Don't be surprised if there's simply no room at the stable when you call.

I absolutely love this spot. It has it all. A well manicured Park, paved bike trails, turtles,…read moreducks, big climbing trees, a rose garden, other gorgeous flowers, bridges, sandbar beaches and a river. There are even bathrooms when there is no Covid pandemic crap happening but during this they put out "Porta potty's" (don't understand really how they are any better or safer or anything really) but they are there. Most of the river is knee to waist deep but there are currents. There is a place to launch your kayak if you want also. And right down the road you can rent horses and go horseback riding. It's great. Weekdays are less people but even the weekend isn't bad. I love to cleanse my crystals and meditate and get nice and grounded. You'll want to thank me if you go! Go!!! It's free too.

The trail had a dotted center line and a reminder of the courtesies to use while on the trail. The path I took was not shaded. I would say about a 1/4 of the path had rough bumps, and many of them were painted to highlight them. It was a decent path, but I didn't feel like there was much in the way of sight seeing.

We went in late November, when the cottonwoods are still glowing gold, and the whole riverside felt like it was an autumn paradise. The trail is flat and easy, with long stretches that let you really settle into the scenery-Rio Grande on one side, trees and little side ponds on the other. Our dog loved it. There's plenty of room to keep a dog on leash without feeling crowded, and enough side paths and textures (sand, dirt, leaves) to keep him interested. We saw ducks and geese cruising on the water, along with a woodpecker working a cottonwood trunk. It also turned into a really sweet date. There are quiet spots to stop, sit by the water, and just watch the birds and the current go by. It never felt unsafe or overly busy, just a steady trickle of walkers, cyclists, and other people out enjoying the trail. If you're visiting Albuquerque-or you just moved here and want to fall in love with the area a little bit-Paseo del Bosque is an easy yes.

I emailed them to schedule a ride time in early May and they were completely booked up for 2 WHOLE MONTHS with no weekend rides. I asked at least 3 or 4 times if they could let me know if there were any cancellations but never heard anything (in fact, when i asked about weekend ride times they never even responded to my question). We finally scheduled a time for over two months out during the week. I confirmed the appointment a few days before (because after I sent them my LivingSocial voucher number I never heard anything back). We planned our day around it, took off work, etc. Low and behold, they cancelled a few hours before the ride when we were getting ready to walk out the door saying that there was a death in the family. I understand that situations happen but based on the other reviews it seems there's a lot of last minute emergencies, illnesses, and deaths. I wasn't impressed with their email etiquette (NO IT'S NOT OK TO SEND AN EMAIL TO A CUSTOMER IN ALL CAPS) or responsiveness- it took 2-3 days to ever get a response. All in all, even if the ride had happened and been great, I still would not be impressed with their customer service. I was really looking forward to this and hoping for the best but when scheduling is a 2 month (minimum) ordeal then they cancel, that is not good business. I'm normally willing to give small businesses the benefit of the doubt but based on the experience leading up to this and the prior reviews that indicate this is a common occurrence, I"m more than a bit skeptical. I responded to their cancellation email nearly a week ago and inquired when the ride could be rescheduled and have yet to hear back. *crickets* If they wow me in the follow up that they promised, then I'm completely willing to edit my review but I'm not holding my breath. _______________________ Update: 15 DAYS and I finally got a reply to my email. They don't have anyone available to answer the phone and "require a minimum of 3 days to respond". Its a terrible business practice, if a company is so busy they can't answer the phone, ever, and take 48 hours to respond to email, then they can afford to hire someone. I finally heard back from the company by email after my 3rd attempt, but availability was so limited, I was unable to use my voucher, only a few weekdays available for over 3 months.
