I either eat at or order from Rumwong around once a week and recently started going for dishes that I hadn't had before rather than the tried and tested food that I know I love and I have to say that the beef salad is one of the most incredible dishes I've ever tried. The flavours and depth with the heat, freshness, textures and aromas was utterly amazing. This is going to be my go-to from the menu now while I couple it with something else new to try. Rumwong has been refurbished in the last few years making this one of the uniquely smartest eateries in town. There is a lot of attention to detail in the decor and seating is reasonably spaced. There is also a seperate area with floor cushions and low tables if you want to eat Thai in a more traditional manner. I don't think I'd find that too comfortable so I use a boring old chair instead. The service and food is good and is priced at about £30 for three courses and a drink or two. I'm not overwhelmed by this restaurant but there is certainly nothing wrong with it. If you like Thai you will definately like Rumwong. However just a hundred metres down the High Street is Thai Terrace which is similarly priced and just about pulls ahead with it's 7th floor views. I have visited a few times before and after they have redecorated and enjoyed the meal every time. Next door is a small Chinese Supermarket which is worth visiting afterwards if you feel like trying some of the recipes out at home. I recommend the wasabi peas and spicy seaweed! read more

One of my favourite restaurants in the Guildford area. With great food, well priced, stunning restaurant and traditional service. They also have a very traditional Khan Tok area where you sit on cushions and low tables. Make sure you do your stretches before choosing this option! I actually don't live in Guildford, but my fiance is from here. So while we were in town visiting, I was craving Thai however the only place his family could suggest was Thai Terrace, and we wanted something more affordable. I searched and found Rumwong, so myself, my fiancé and his brother paid a visit. It was bustling for a Thursday evening and the only table readily available was the traditional floor seating table, which was actually very comfortable. Our first waitress barely spoke any English- while she got key words right, anything else I asked (for example, is the soup large enough to share?) was replied with "Bowl! Soup! Bowl!" And the 3 glasses of water requested turned up with only 2. Luckily, another waitress came and took the remainder of our order. I was disappointed that they didn't have one of my favorite dishes on the menu- panang (peanut curry) but we chose the Tom yum kai with coconut milk (I ended up only ordering one serving, but it was just enough to split into 3 small portions), red curry with chicken and bamboo shoots, beef and broccoli and chicken pad Thai, and started with a yummy Thai iced tea. The food came in a timely manner and everything was presented beautifully. Each dish was flavorful, but could have been a bit more spicy (in fact it was very low in spice, and they didn't ask what spice level we wanted). I have visited Thailand on many occasions and would say the quality of the food is similar to hat of authentic Thai (with less spice). We could have easily added a fourth dish, but I had wanted to save room for the mango sticky rice dessert, which sadly was not in season. Overall, it was a very delicious dinner and pleasant experience with only very few shortfalls. It should also be noted that they offer free delivery as well, and may be a good idea to reserve a table for dinners and weekends. I've only ever had takeaway from Rumwong, as we use it as one of our staple ordering restaurants for food at work. The food is consistently good and comes in sensible portions. The gluten free menu is extensive and the dishes do not suffer for the lack of ingredients. I'd love to go there and eat in the restaurant one day, as if the atmosphere is as good as the food, I'll definitely award it the extra star! read more

Hands down the best takeaway you can get in Surrey. If ever we are celebrating with a takeaway for a special occasion Rumwong it has to be. It can be expensive, however the food is worth it. Their ribs are my favourite, they just fall off the bone. Absolutely amazing. read more

RumWong's delicatessen is situated next to the RumWong restaurant. Walking by just the sheer amount of interesting goodies inside the window is sure to draw you inside. I ate here because I thought I would be cheaper than Thai Terrace, but higher quality than Sir & Madam. These are the two other Thai restaurants I know of in Guildford. The decor of Rumwong was certainly lovely, but not so much the food. The Tom Yum soup had cherry tomatoes floating in it. When the prawns arrived, they seemed to be cooked in the same coconut-based liquid the soup was made out of. Four-star ambiance, but two stars for the food; Hence the two-star overall rating (not an average). read more

Lovely restaurant with a great ambience. Had food from the lunch menu and it was great. Service was excellent but had to wait a while for the food as we wanted it all at the same time. Even got a 10% discount as my wife is from Thailand. Would recommend but bear in mind that it's a bit pricey. read more

High quality thai food served by attentive staff in a restaurant with wonderful decor. Although it does not offer the views of its sister restaurant 'the Thai Terrace' (also in Guildford and also recommended) it is extremely popular so booking is a good idea. It does appear to offer a bit more space between the tables compared to the Thai Terrace. Prices also seemed reasonable to me (starter, main + a couple of Singha beers was circa £40) read more

Went here for a family meal before Christmas. The food and service is amazing. I haven't had Thai food before, but the quality and flavours were amazing. Would suggest booking ahead as it was busy when we arrived and if we had not booked it looked like we may have been waiting a while. Went to buy a few things i had run out of. I popped into this shop for the first time as I happened to be at the top of town. The price of the items I wanted to purchase were almost double the price of what I usually pay and what was worse was I bought something in the fridge section. Rum Wong is great food is tasty, authentic but portions are not large. The staff and service is adequate but they do not seem to go out of their way to make you feel at home. Nevertheless, the food is impeccable, albeit higher than average. read more
