This is the best Thai restaurant I've personally been to & definitely the biggest! Being situated…read moreon top of a multistorey carpark doesn't sound like the most romantic setting but does give one quite a different take on inviting someone along! If you want an intimate night out with you beloved (or someone else's!) be prepared for a lot of company - this place seats well over a hundred diners & usually does. This place gets busy! If on foot you can approach from the High St by turning down the alley below The Tudor Rose until you get to the Sydenham Rd carpark. The restaurant has its own lift. Being so high up means you get great views across Guildford including the floodlit cathedral in the evenings. Smokers don't have to return to earth because there is a large outside area with plenty of seating & a covered corner. There's also a large seating space opposite the bar. The restaurant was noted for handing out handheld vibrating plastic buzzers to waiting cutomers - I'm not sure if they still do! Seating so many people, you may question the efficiency of the (many) staff. Fear not, this restaurant runs like clockwork with the waiters & waitresses wearing walky talkies aided by a person outside the kitchen who looks to be checking the orders. The staff have always been very friendly & helpful. There are also enough of them to regularly refil your glasses & attend to you culinary requirements. Now to the most important bit - the food! One word describes it - stunning! So much so, I think this is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. One thing that stands out is that the Thai Terrace has remained brilliant time & time again. I've been to many restaurants that have been excellent but have failed to met my high expectations on consequent visits. Although not particularly cheap the prices aren't outrageous either.

As I'm not familiar with Guildford, one of my nursing colleagues recommended Thai Terrace to me as…read morea nice venue to meet a friend Its location just off the High Street on the 7th floor of a multi storey car park may not sound the most salubrious. However, the attractions of being so high up are obvious once you're up there (there's a lift if your legs don't fancy the walk up) - you get a lovely view and on the evening I visited, I saw Guildford Cathedral looking all pretty and lit up They've made a real effort to make the rrestaurant feel an oasis from the harsh reality of the concrete car park and the moment you step in, you're greeted with an authentic 'Namaste' from the staff with the traditional Thai hand together greeting. The decor is great, from the Koi pond to the lovely relaxing bar area with lots of comfy sofas. My friend and I were almost too comfortable to want to move through for our meal! We started with grilled chicken with a sweet chilli sauce. The chicken was nicely moist and enhanced by the sauce. The star of our main courses was the mixed seafood dish, which had lovely large pieces of fish, sweet scallops, prawns and squid. We also had a subtly and sympathetically spiced pork with aubergine. The chicken pad thai arrived with a unique lacey crepe covering the noodles. The pad thai was probably the most ordinary of the dishes. A solid Thai restaurant with a great ambiance and lovely view
