I adore Rumors! This was the first Richmond thrift store I went to back in 2017. It was cool then and still is today. This spot is amazing for alt fashion, creative looks, and thrifting. They have a huge selection of outfits and accessories. It's a tiny shop, but you're able to find some creative gems. I think the pricing is fair, but know since it's consignment you can be getting things in the $15-30+ range. I love that you don't need an appointment to sell clothes. You give your ID and info and if they want to buy something you can get store credit. If you want cash, you need to make an appointment. As of Feb 2026, if you want to do walk-in it's only store credit that's offered. This is located really close to VCU so you're able to find a lot of trendy and art school inspired pieces. I usually walk here. You're able to take the Pulse too. Street parking can be a bit tricky, but is available. I highly recommend checking out this local thrift store. read more

I have gone to this store a few times throughout 2022-2023; my comments: -Their return policy isn't super clear. I bought a pair of pants on a Friday, returned that Sunday, and was offered five bucks in cash or eleven in store credit. Even with the tag saying 20 dollars was still on it. -they will talk to each other instead of working, leaving you waiting for long periods. -beware jewelry breaks and tarnishes badly. -they make fun of the clothes people bring in, like mean girls. -they talk bad about customers willing to spend 200$ of daddies' money on a fo leather vest to be a cottage core b-word. *sigh* I wanted to be able to rate this place higher. As an artsy 20something living in the Richmond area, i wanted to love it. I've been here around 4 or 5 times both to buy and sell. They're particular about what they buy and frequently run out of cash. Though they do sell vintage (translation: mostly 80s and 90s pieces) lots of their racks are full of fast fashion pieces from places like H&M and F21. Nothing wrong with that, but it affects the quality of their inventory as a whole. It's not uncommon to find a piece that's as-is. That could mean it needs a small repair or is covered in sweat stains. Occasionally, there's something really unique AND quality. But you have to wade through quite a bit to find it. They also carry little trendy things from a supplier like choker and plated jewelry. I prefer Fan Thrift, Ashby's, and Goodwill. Most other places. Music is good, though. read more

I've been working thrift/vintage buy sell trade for 5 years and shopping it for longer. Currently live in Brooklyn and was visiting RVA for the weekend. Rumors was my favorite thrift store I went to while there. Loved the atmosphere, SO well priced, such a great and well-curated selection (not too "thrifty", current and trendy stuff) and a great selection. By this I mean: a plus sized section, great short & long dresses, shorts, skirts, jeans, tees, chokers, sunglasses, earrings, shoes, etc. and menswear. Customer service didn't blow me away but the selection and amount of stuff is more important to me than constantly being attended to. I realize that buy sell trade can be confusing to customers. They buy what they buy and pay what they pay for it because they're a for-profit business who wants to make money and can't buy all the worn, dated stuff from the bottom of your closet. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer questions about it, too. Just ask questions, don't get mad and leave salty reviews on yelp. I went into Rumors on Saturday November 29th to do some holiday shopping. When I walked in one of the girls working was making Christmas decorations she promptly greeted me and made me feel welcomed. The store was a combination of a country thrift store and a designer boutique. I purchased several items and I think I found a new favorite store. read more

I've always thought Rumors was a bit overpriced to begin with so I personally didn't notice any jump in prices. Some items are sold at retail price, some items have damage, but some I actually find to be pretty decent. Tons of trendy accessories are kept on the counter, which are probably from a supplier. Chokers are $6 a piece or 2 for $10 and buttons are $1 each. One very trendy accessory they have at the moment are puffy pom pom keychains, which they're selling for $4. During my most recent visit, I was lucky enough to find some unique vintage pieces for what I think are fair prices. I got a peach colored sweater with pearl detailing for only $6 from the sale rack and a nautical style white and navy button up blouse for $8. I've made some great purchases from Rumors in the past as well, notably my oh-so-coveted "Magic Girl Squad" baseball tee for $10 and my Betsey Johnson Tea Party Dress for $12 (with minor stains and damage to the underlining which isn't noticeable unless you look up close and who cares because it was only $12 anyway). Overall, I'm pleased with all the pieces I've been able to find at Rumors - and that perhaps may be because I'm just really lucky when it comes to thrifting/consignment shopping. Because their clothing stock relies upon whatever is sold to them, it's a hit or miss - as goes for any consignment or thrift store. If you're going to shop here, make sure you have time to really comb through everything and always be sure to keep an open mind (don't go in expecting to find any specific item - even if you saw it on Instagram.) read more

I went for the first time the other day and this store is awesome!!! I almost didnt want to write a review because I wanted to keep this as my secret. They have really cool pre-loved clothes, mostly under $10. Although I did see a t-shirt I bought for $5 new at another store priced at $9 there, but honestly if I didn't already own it, I would have paid $9 for it anyways. I can definitely get down with Rumors Boutique. Not only because the clothes are wicked cheap and there's something for everyone, but moreso in the literal sense, because they're always blasting jams in the shop and on the street (there's a speaker that faces the street that's connected inside) and you can't help but dance. I visited Rumors last weekend and found some pretty awesome stuff. They cover everything from men's clothing, to dresses, jackets to bags. Speaking of bags, their handbag section looks small but almost everything was purchase-worthy: menswear overnighters, large clutches, wallets and thin-strapped shoulder bags. If wearing gently-worn boots freaks you out, you should definitely re-think that, as their vintage boot section is pretty tops. Found a crazy pair of forest green over-the-knee boots but alas they weren't my size. Bonus for music lovers that visit: they have a small music section which includes full-lengths (both pre-owned and new vinyl), 7"s and tapes (yes! tapes!) from local artists. read more

This store has a nice mix of clothes, especially for the college set. Downstairs features gently worn apparel and accessories, along with some new accessories designed by local artists (check out the cool necklaces by Julia Dent), and upstairs is menswear. It's nice to see a cool resale shop that offers stuff for men too. I took some stuff in as a consignor earlier this week. I could exactly figure out a rhyme or reason to what they took and didn't, but I figure the owners and staff are creating their own look and feel. And this is cool, it gives the store more of a trendy/unique feel than your average resale clothing shop. I also felt like I was paid pretty darn fairly for the items I brought in. You've got a choice of taking cash (it's not consignment, they buy the items outright), or taking a store credit. You get more money with a store credit, but I went for cash because who doesn't want mo' money??! I'll definitely take stuff back here again, but I'll make sure to bring the three-bag max so they'll hopefully find a few things they like. read more

An excellent skip over from Harrison St. Cafe when I'm feeling clothes-y. Clothes for cheap, with a great variety. Bought an awesome sweater-dress from them at a cool $9. Loads of shirts, sweaters and tops. They have pants, but not a ton, and they have shoes, but not for large-footed folk like myself. Local kid runs a distro near the door if you're interested. They even have a charming little frequent buyer card I hope to fill out in the future. Definitely a good variety of clothes at a decent price! read more

The music was so loud it hurt. The fact that I thought to myself "Gee, this music is a little on the loud side" meant that I was too old and too uncool to enjoy my browsing experience. During my short visit, I noticed that nobody makes eye contact and you can fart as often as you'd like. As for the clothes - it's stuff that people wore for a while, realized they looked kooky, and sold. Or traded for some other goofy stuff. I wish the record section took up the entire store and there was just a small box in the corner with a few scarves in it and a sign that said "Free". read more

evil people work at rumors people have already talked about how rude they are when it comes to bringing in clothes to sell so i'll leave it at that, but i recently sold items and received store credit. cool awesome whatever. go in a few days later to use my 40 dollars in store credit on some socks, employee i'm checking out with walks away mid transaction to talk to coworker for a few minutes, comes back and tells me I have three dollars in store credit. i say that can't be possible, to which she says oh we actually lost the sale slip for your items so we have no clue how much store credit you have. so i guess they decided to not tell me and give me three dollars and hope i didn't notice??? tell me they'll fix it later then dodge my calls hoping to get it settled. as a richmond native rumors has slipped so far in quality it's honestly really sad and their main selling point now is just reselling shein clothes as """rumors basics"""" ..... basically shop here if ur a vcu freshman who loves to overpay for garbage. read more

This place is literally so perfect if you're looking to get amazing deals on high-end vintage & designer clothing. From Tommy Hilfiger to Jeffrey Campbell to American Apparel, they literally have it all. My only complaint is that they got rid of the dollar bins!!! I really loved to shop for cute cheap-o shirts & stuff that they threw in these bins but unfortunately they've done away with the whole thing. Other than that, I love the staff & the atmosphere (they almost know me by name now lol). BTW, they not only sell pre-loved stuff, but they also get a limited supply of new items as well. They post a lot of what they get in on their Instagram page so you can be sure to snatch up those amazing finds before someone else can get their paws on it! It's worth a look for sure! read more

This place was mad dope. The prices are reasonable (found a pair of Levi's for $12 with a few stains on them, didn't fit so I didn't get them but they were flawless to me) and the assortment is awesome. The t shirts i expected to be more main stream things but they were still awesome. The staff is sweet. I got two pairs of beautiful earrings from there that I haven't seen anywhere else besides maybe an online boutique for x4 the cost. Def a place to stop in :) read more

My first time going there today, and it was absolutely amazing and trendy. It's like a store that picks all your favorite pieces you find at a thrift store in one place. The prices are not thrift store prices because they are profit-based. But they are also decent, the prices that were expensive were the jackets but I understand why. Everything here is very unique, I would've given five stars but I had a small problem with one guy that works there, I wanted to buy a fur coat it was my birthday and I really wanted to wear it out, he made a big deal about going to the upper level to get the coat, (seemed like he didn't really want to help me) he told me to go online and order it, so I'm assuming you can't just buy one in the store, because they don't keep them on the store level, which would've been helpful to know at the time. If you want a tulle corset, this may be the place for you. Besides the intensely odd articles, there's also weirdly normal clothing, if that makes sense. There was a surprisingly great deal of old navy and target, which I don't usually find in unique thrift stores. All in all, everything I found was either too everyday or too out-there for my taste. To top that, the prices aren't as cheap as Id like in a thrift store. Lastly, while the space is very trendy, with its brick walls and whatnot, it was incredibly crowded when I went and there was a lot of bumping into people- its a small shop with a lot of things. On a final note, I will say, their men's selection looked pretty amazing, just not for me. read more

NON EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Literally they pick the rudest people to work here. I had a return to make and the item was purchased with a store credit. The lady with bad choppy bangs hounded me over a receipt. I even showed her my bank statement on my phone with proof of purchase for the difference. She made a big deal over a $19 shirt with all tags attached and in mint condition. The Asian chubby guy is just as rude too. He talks down to customer like he works at saks. Don't get me started on trying to sell clothes here. They basically want brand new clothes with tags attached. They bought everything I had from SHEIN never worn and refused the rest. The Asian guy said sorry we ran out of cash today. I asked could I come in the next Morning to pick up cash instead of a store credit. He goes no with the snobbiest attitude. If you're looking for some really unique and interesting clothes this is the place to go man. I've found some really crazy stuff here that would be super rare to find at most other thrift stores. The only thing is though that they don't really have thrift store prices. Also I tried to sell a vintage windbreaker here and they wouldn't take it because it had a spot smaller than my fingernail on it, but I've straight up found tee shirts with armpit stains on the rack here lol. Anyway that's not a huge deal. The staff is usually really nice and I've only ever had good experiences with them. It's a really unique and fun place and it's definitely worth dropping by. read more

Only gave 2 stars for the fact that they do sell a lot of great clothing and the employees working at the counter are extremely nice and put up with a lot of bullsh*t from the customers. With that being said, management needs to either provide a larger budget for selling or find a better system for those who place their bags at 10AM and leave until 10:55, just to walk in first at 11AM to sell. Meanwhile, everyone else stands out for 30-60 minutes for absolutely nothing, and end up going to another store where they have the money to buy clothing past the first 1-2 people in line. Rumors is my favorite. I've been coming here since it was over at Harrison Street. The new store isn't as pretty as the old one but it's bigger and provides more space for goodies to buy. They're staff is sassy and doesn't take any shit, but yet always friendly. A lot of people don't understand their buying but never ask questions, which is sad, because they've always been helpful when i ask questions about my buys. Before I get into the actual Rumors review I'd like to note that I work at a similar type of store where we buy from the public and resell, though we aren't as "thrifty" as Rumors (think in-season J. Crew, Old Navy, Ann Taylor, etc), so I understand how the deal works in a general sense. I still hate Rumors. From a seller's perspective, Rumors is terrible. First off, they don't explain the process to you even when you tell them you've never sold, which would be helpful in clearing up a lot of the confusion between the seller and buyer. A good and bad thing about their buying is that they're fast. From experience at my job, there's only 2 reasons you would finish a buy in 5 minutes: if the items are clearly things you don't take OR if you aren't doing the job thoroughly. Another thing is that they're ALWAYS running out of money. They open at 11 AM during the week, on multiple occasions I've gone in around 12-12:30 and they were out... You would think they only keep $200 on them a day (which is ridiculously unacceptable for resale). What I hate the absolute most about selling at Rumors is how disrespectful they are with your items. If I bring a bag of FOLDED items in to sell, there's no reason all of my things should be given back to me balled up everywhere. From a buyer's perspective, Rumors is still terrible. The atmosphere is really gross and cluttered to me but it does fit with the non-local's hipster-rebel-faux-artsy vibe. Everything in the store is either an overpriced basic piece, something that looks like it's been cycled through Goodwills (no offense to Goodwill) for decades, or overpriced wholesale items that are made poorly. It's very rare that I or anyone I know finds something worthwhile in Rumors honestly. The quality of some of the things in there is really questionable too. There's no reason 1/3 of the shirts should have pilling all over. I will say that they've gotten much better with the customer service which is great. Overall, Rumors sucks and I won't be purchasing, selling or recommending them to anyone anymore. read more

In from California and decided to check it out..I found some cool vintage tops today at around $15 and under each. Prices are fair and there are plenty of unique finds. Staff was nice as well. I think the racks of newer clothing should go though and leave it all thrift and vintage. read more

I don't know why I even bother going to other thrift stores in the city, seriously. I love to go Jesus thrift, to salvation army, goodwill, and all those places and I never find half as much quality and straight up righteous gear as I do when I just go to Rumors. This place is the bees knees. I have heard that it is 'pricy' for a thrift store, but that's only because those are the people that are used to going to the places I've already mentioned and only wanting to pay $2 for everything. C'mon you dummies, you are paying for their ability to gather up all this great stuff and deliver it to you in one store. They are doing us a favor so that we don't waste our money and time traversing the city to save a buck and buy a trendy salisbury steak sweater (Riff Raff). The prices are never over $30 and that's sometimes for vintage items. That's a steal! They are asking us to go and steal their stuff, so I'm not arguing, I'm going down to get some stuff asap. They also buy your old clothes, but they're not brand bound like Platos closet. They buy things that are a certain look and fit. They take about half the things I bring and also offer store credit. I found a vintage faux fur coat on Etsy that I desperately needed for Halloween (and let's be honest everyday life), however I needed within two days and the shipping info said it'd ship in 1-3 days. I directly messaged Rumors and Marshé responded so quickly. She priced overnight and two day shipping, updated the order page, and sure enough I got the coat in time. Came to VA to vaca from BK and I FRIGGIN LUV this place!!! Bought THREE dresses and each $7 each!!! As you walk in, being a New Yorker, you are not really surprised by the clothing because it is the same clothes you would find at EVERY store in SOHO but because the prices are so low you cannot help but be excited! To be completely honest the customer services sucks

This store has horrible customer service and horrible taste! Why would I go in there after day after day I see the horribly dressed mannequins out front? What possesed me? Oh yeah I had 3 BCBG dresses and a BCBG awesome motorcylcle style black jacket that I was thinking on parting with..... These rude little" Register People" told me they would only take 2 of them for 18$ total. Insult me! The Jacket alone was approx 280$ when I bought it last year at the Oakbrook IL BCBG store. In total purchased value of the whole lot was well over $500. Now I am not stupid I know they arent brand new, so no I wasn't expecting that amount, but come on.... So I kindly snatched my s%#* and went down the block. For higher end clothing you are ready to part with, there are other places to consign with... you dont get your cash in hand that day, but I kept my jacket..added another odd dress to the lot and just picked up 140$ from a better consignment shop that has wonderful pleasant staff that won't insult your intelligence or make you feel cheap!
