West End Thrift Store is a great little bargain shop with some of the nicest folks I have ever met in a resale establishment. Always worth stopping by! I came here recently looking to see if I could find anything useful to furnish my new apartment. For a relatively small store, they have a decent selection of small-medium furniture. While their other clothing, housewares, and kids sections looked fairly well-appointed, I did not spend much time there aside from getting the general gist of them. I found a great collapsible wood table for a very reasonable price, which has since become my personal bar. Nice addition to my place! The employees here are really what make this place a pleasure to visit, though. Every single one I interacted with was incredibly welcoming and pleasant to talk to. Lately I have felt that most stores are full of employees who really don't want to be there, though that is not the case with West End Thrift Store. Top marks for service, no question. While I wouldn't come here for large furniture or upscale men's clothing, they have a great supply of everything else, so definitely give them a try! Overall: 4.5 stars ----- Pros: - Fantastic, personable service. The people here are just plain nice. - Good prices, with daily discounts based on sticker color. - Selection is good for a thrift store of this size. Store is clean, but not worth shopping around. Unless you are an avid church goer looking for church digs I wouldn't recommend clothes shopping here as nothing suits any other occasion. Same with books, as 80-90% of them are specifically christian or republican. No one greeted me and my partner in the 15 mins we spent walking around, and there were at least 3-4 employees walking around, who did converse with other patrons. If you like to thrift around RVA like we do, don't add this store to your list, as there's nothing much here, like I said unless you fit very particular criterion. I would not say felt accepting to all, but it's possible they intend to come off that way. read more

Never Again!! I have been to quite a few consignment and thrift stores throughout the city. I consider myself an expert. I can honestly say that this is one of the more over priced one's that I have been to. I get it make your money, but don't be greedy (especially if it's for a good cause). I also have never felt so uneasy and uncomfortable shopping anywhere, but I did in this shop. I usually don't like to be bothered when I'm shopping, unless I come to you for assistance. I was approached by two women (one was an employee), who had nothing better to do than attempt to engage in awkward chatter (and as predicted, they didn't know when to end). I don't think they realized, or cared that they were making me feel uncomfortable. They were condescending and rude. I find that some people don't have the best communication skills, and force unnecessary conversation's onto innocent people. I'm not anti social, but I can tell who's going to hold me up chatting when I'm on a mission (any true thrifter knows this, IJS). The selection of clothes wasn't great, and to add insult to injury they were also overpriced. It appears to cater to a much older demographic. I went right down the street to Goodwill and purchased 2 Michael Kors coats, one was butter soft leather, a wool coat and warm running jacket for $40 ( I will post in my Goodwill review). Westend Thrift had a hideous leather jacket ( off brand, not that it matters to me) for $350, their tag, not new! I'm sure my items would have cost me a lot more in this shop. Was so excited to come here, and was very let down. No one greeted me as I walked in, or at any point while I was in store. I actually got some weird side eye looks instead. While it's clean, the clothing is pretty dated and really does look like it's from a church thrift store. Buyer beware- that's the vibe of everything in there, so if you're not looking for that go elsewhere. The very loud Christian music playing overhead was a little much for me as well. read more

Reading how nice these ladies are, i expected it. I walked in the store today and after reading how nice these ladies where I was let down. I walked in the store when it just opened, along with another lady and her child. There were three ladies who seem to work there and not one of them Acknowledged me. It's the little things that matter to me, a friendly welcome would have made a difference. Could it be my big curly hair? These ladies look like they are in their 70's or maybe even older. I am a 61-year-old. They were playing Christian music and so as a true Christain I respect that. But really shouldn't one great everyone like Jesus would. Not based on Appearance, looks or gender but based on the love of Christ. Treat everyone the way you would want to be treated. I saw one item that I would have like to have purchased, however when I buy things from a store like a thrift store part of it is the people you want to support. I wasn't feeling it. As far as what they were selling. A little bit from most categories but not a great deal. Worth a check out only if you're into seeking out bargains. Some prices High and others great. read more

I fell in love with this thrift store. I was in the market for quality furniture that wasn't a project and ready to use. I set out for a search. Before I came to West End Thrift Store I had already gone to 3 thrift stores and 2 consignment stores looking for furniture. Other places have gross quality with extreme wear in an environment that feels dirty, or extremely overpriced. When I arrived I could tell they put TLC into their inventory. When I touched a rip on a couch, the manager was standing near me and said "Yes ma'am, we noticed it had a tear and will be fixing it soon!" So they make sure all their inventory is quality, minimally worn, with no major damage. The prices are extremely hard to beat for the quality, it's a great bargain. I live for bargains! Also, the staff was mostly older adults who all work with a church. They are all so sweet and a lovely older woman gave me a hug after our work together to find me the right dresser. Another plus, all proceeds go to missionary work. They had a contractor who I called to help with delivery, which was $25 - so affordable! Will definitely be back! read more

My bestie and I went to waste a rainy afternoon since we had to be in the area for a car repair. We were not in the market for anything, really, but we love to find unique things. Some of the furniture here... let me just say, I am glad I don't live closer, because these people would own my soul and most of my internal organs. There was a truly fabulous antique bed that my husband would certainly have hated having to haul in and up. This place was very well organized and it was a delightful way to spend a little time waiting for my car to be ready. I will probably be back the next time I am in the area to visit family. read more

we were going to the storage unit and we noticed a thrift store next to it, we were already planning on thrifting and we went in, it was SOOO organized, it was organized by color AND size. this outfit was 14$ only because the skirt was more than it normally would of been due to been really fancy (it had a underskirt and it was pleated, and no stains) everything there was really nice, and the top also had detachable straps, we are definitely going to go there again! read more

West End Thrift is the best. Well organized, interesting selection and well-priced. I've purchased many items there and the staff couldn't be nicer. Not a very large shop, but it comes off more like a retail store because of the care put into the way items are displayed. Plenty of clothes, children's toys, puzzles and kitchen items. I judt purchased a working electric cupcake maker (for an early family Xmas gift) for all of $4. They've been so nice, and even if I don't purchase anything on some visits, we donated a beautiful dining table and chairs that sold within 30 days. After all, it's a charity thrift store and we were so glad we could help. Certainly worth a visit. read more
