One of my favorite thrift stores in Richmond! They have weekly deals & sales, which you can get updates on through their Facebook page. It is a bit messy because they have so much inventory and the space is small, so you have to take your time looking. Two things I wish they'd change- the first is the baby clothes all being in bins on the ground in front of a busy shelf. It's very difficult to grab, sit on the floor and try not to get hit in the head. Also those bins always smell bad. Same issue with the shorts & swimsuit bins on the ground, those don't smell though. The second thing is seeing the same ripped and stained clothing, I'm talking huge holes in the crotch in jeans and stains you know are never coming out, being sold for $8 or more. Some items should just be tossed! Checkout staff is always very friendly and offer a free book or toy for kids. read more

One of the things that I have been investigating, Richmond is various different thrift stores over last few years. This one is interesting because it has an eclectic selection in a really small space. They also have excellent sales and discounts. Additionally, everyone that works there was really willing to help. Messy but worth digging! I literally found a cool summer dress for a quarter!! That's right, it was crazy! I also bought some kitchen utensils and flatware. My total bill was $1.75!! I got a bag full of items at below yard sale prices. The jewelry case had some nice pieces... but most was costume baubles. They had puzzles for $.10 and this guy in front of me bought a stack full for $1.00! These prices will have you shaking in your boots with glee! Now although the prices are great, this thrift store is a wreck! Junk everywhere and you literally have to search through bins to find a deal. The clothing is semi-organized but there's so much crammed on the racks, it's hard to see everything. The cashier was friendly and she said they donate to local charities so it's nice your purchases are going to worthy causes. Thrifty Quaker is junky but warrants a look see! read more

Everything about this place is AMAZINGGG. I come here at least once a month and have been for the past few years. The staff is amazing and so kind. They are always working hard to put new items out on the floor for customers. Make sure you have time when you go because you have to search to find items that fit your style. I can come out of there with three full bags of nice clothes that only cost under $50. There are constant deals going on so make sure to check this place out! P.S. Extremely unpleasant and unfortunate encounter here. Came in a rainy day, and there was a younger girl working there who offered masks in case you forgot one which is nice of her. However, there was an older lady working there already making remarks like "got the wrong shoes on today." Okay, I don't have any other shoes which is why I'm here. Not everyone has rain boots or can afford nicer shoes. I put the comment off as if it was a joke. However, the next remark that was made--inexcusable. My mother is Korean and we speak in Korean because it's her native language. Somehow, this makes people in that store uncomfortable. When my mother was speaking in her language to herself, saying the clothes were nice, on the other side of the store while I was looking at shoes, the older lady walked right past her while shaking her head no, and yelled angrily, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU JUST SAID." I immediately put back my clothes I had in my hand that I was going to purchase. My stomach dropped and I felt sick at how rude and nasty that comment was. I seriously had to raise my head to digest what that older lady just said because I couldn't believe at first. My mother just shyly laughed and apologized and said smiling in her broken English, "Sorry, yeah I know." For those reading, you NEVER have to apologize for speaking in your own language. Don't ever do it, be proud of where you come from. She could have stated, "I'm sorry I didn't quite understand, did you need help?" or "I'm sorry?" or ""I'm not quite sure I caught that?" Literally anything other than that rude, nasty remark. When we went to the front desk to buy a rain coat, I had a card out and she yelled, "NOT ENOUGH FOR CARD, CASH ONLY." I asked her how much is the minimum for the card? She just slapped her hand on the paper sign underneath the jacket that read "$5 minimum." I almost walked out right then and there but I know my mom was really happy about that coat and I didn't want to ruin it for her because she wasn't aware of what was going on that I clearly understood. Gave her cash and left. Will never come back. Absolutely unacceptable that people like that exist still. And for anyone reading who is a foreigner reading this, take what you want from this review. I 100% know that my mother and I are not welcome as Koreans. Really hate to think how they treat other people who don't speak English. Absolutely disgusting that we had to experience that. read more

Thrifty Quaker is one of my favorite hidden gems in Midlothian. It's tucked away in a quiet shopping center and is absolutely worth the visit. Like most thrift shops, you have to be in the mood to dig when you shop here. If you put in the work, you will be rewarded with some great clothing at very accessible prices. I try to come here often as they get new inventory daily. You'll never know what you will find! This is a small store with a lot of inventory - every visit is like a treasure hunt as you search the racks for your next bargain. Prices here are very reasonable and reflect the wear and tear on the item. The best part is that they always have a sale going on. Check out the chart as you enter the store. You will see what color tags have what percent discount. I've visited the Thrifty Quaker often because of their friendly staff, amazing mission (their proceeds are donated to a different local charity each month!), and the good finds. I've purchased lots of treasures here - Lilly Pulizer shorts for $2, a cameo pendant from Italy for $1, a brand new beaded Anthropologie top for $5, and a suit set for $1.50! I highly recommend stopping into the Thrifty Quaker often. You never know what you'll find and you can refresh your wardrobe, grab a new book, or furnish your new apartment all while supporting local causes. read more

Went into this store today after my Dr appointment. I am a young (black female) an older Caucasian woman was talking with another did not greet me at all. This lady looked directly at me as if I had did something wrong to her said nothing. I walked around for about 5 min and walked out, on the way out I looked at her again as she was counting her till down no goodbye , can I help with anything, nothing! But proceeded to speak to all the white customers that entered the store!! This is not acceptable!!! We are in 2023 people!! I did nothing to deserve this type of treatment from this lady, nor did feel welcomed in that store!!! I will never go back ever again!!! We need to do better as a people!!!! Have donated $100.00 + of goods biweekly over the last year. Went to deliver another load. Older woman said she couldn't take an antique painting due to a crack in the glass. Said I understood completely. Then asked if I may put the painting (flat, not large) in their dumpster. She said no, as the dumpster costs them money. I reminded her that we have donated over $1,000.00 of goods this year & it would be a great help. She again refused and put out her hands for our donation. I said no and delivered the goods to Habitatfor Humanity Restore as I will in future. I have listened as the staff at Thrifty Quaker bragged about buying things themselves to re-sell, but this rudeness was the last straw. ReStore will get it all. read more

The customer service here is always, always, flawless. The clothes and selections of items are inspirational I never walk out of here empty handed and for the price? I like the mission of Thrifty Quaker, and for now, will continue to donate there. The last 2 years, we have donated numerous quality items, many new in the box or with tags still on. Our recent experience donating left a sour taste in our mouths. My disabled spouse was dropping items off alone because I was not available to accompany her. The woman who came out started opening boxes, some fragile, and rummaging through the boxes in what seemed to be an impatient, suspicious, judgmental fashion. When asked what was going on, she replied "we just don't want a lot of junk we'll have to throw in the dumpster". While I realize that people sometimes donate unusable items, we have never done so. I believe all thrift stores need to be philosophical about this issue, and find a way to deal with it graciously. When this employee/volunteer saw the quality of items we were donating, she did finally quit rummaging and helped unload the boxes, but not until my spouse was thoroughly shaken. Very unfortunate. If we have to, we will go the extra distance to donate to Diversity Thrift instead. One more incident like this, and Thrifty Quaker will no longer be the recipient of our generosity. read more

Thanks for the age discrimination and rudely shaming my 11 yr old for not being welcome. He had birthday money, we had been to lunch next door, I'd been in alone before and thought he could find a cool treasure. The staff was rude questioning his age and barked about him being not old enough to enter "because of governors orders"?! I don't recall this particular governor order but I was so sad for him. He had a mask on, the store was not over crowded. He's 11 so has been social distancing better than most adults for 2 years now. You have kids stuff for sale but parents aren't welcome with their children? You made him feel awful, really hurt both our feelings and ruined a wonderful day. I thought this store gave back to the community but this policy is hurting business and ridiculous. You should be the ones ashamed. I will tell everyone I know, a lot of my fellow thrift shopping moms, you're hanging on to this nonsense made up rule (I've not seen anywhere else) apparently just not liking any kids and grasping at reasons why you won't allow them in. My 11 year old is more respectful when shopping than most adults I know. I know your store is small but be kind about it at least when you kick us out! Heads up for parents that they are not letting kids under age 12 in because of " governor's orders ". I thought regulations on dining and retail capacity had largely been lifted, so not sure if this is legit or if they just don't want children in their store, but from the attitude of the front desk lady seems like it might be the latter. I drove over there with my 1.5 year old today (had wanted to check it out for a while) and found out we can't go in. We thrift for basically all our clothes and house stuff so I'd really hoped to try this store, but I will not be back even if they do start letting kids back in - if you would rather exclude parents shopping w little kids than find another way to keep the store at safe capacity (ie let a certain number of people in and form a line outside, like many groceries and other businesses did during the height of covid), then you deserve to lose business. On the other hand, we got to check out the cute bakery in the same shopping center and pleasants hardware, where my kid was welcome, and support them instead! read more

poor poor quality, LOW selection, everything is filthy doesn't matter if it's clothing or media. VERY cramped I can't barely fit in the isles much less crouch. all the dvds and cds are scratched or roughed up. the clothing is rough and worn and OVERPRICED the woman and the front desk was snappy when I bought what I wanted. the staff in the back were loud and it smelled like microwaved food. ignorant staff and very unsatisfactory and filthy place. WILL NOT be returning. do yourself a favor go to the goodwill 3 miles away much better selection and staff. read more

Stopped in here on the way (almost late) for a wedding. Was able to get some appropriate shoes (cheap). My son bought a shirt, shoes, and pants for the wedding, changed into them, and we were on our way, arriving just in time for the wedding. This thrift store is hidden away in a little strip mall in Midlothian, but they have some amazing stuff. Definitely check out their jewelry selection, because it is usually pretty awesome! They pick a different charity each month to support, which I think is super cool. Spreading the love (and $) around to many different organizations in the community is wonderful. Oh, and they're located right next to Cerro Azul restaurant which has great Mexican food. So, go shop and eat! read more

A wonderful store! I've been shopping here for years and many of the employees know me by name. Many of the items have lower prices than most thrifts AKA Goodwill. It's a great spot for resellers to find reasonably priced items. I find vintage and retro items prices under $5 all the time. They use a sliding scale of colored stickers that determine the sale discount of the week. They also do pop up sale frequently. All proceeds after expenses goes to charity. read more

Nice little thrift store in the corner of a strip mall. I found a pair of shoes at half price which ended up costing $5. I also got two curling irons and one was $5 but it was 75% off. The prices are kinda high but like the other Yelper said, you have to check out the % off each item. Some are regular prices but most are discounted. There are signs throughout the store with the % off for each color ticket. The people working were very nice. I would return when I'm back in the area. read more

A great little place; the prices may seem high at first glance (by THRIFT STORE standards, mind you), but bc they discount a different color tag each week at increasing intervals (ex: green tag is 25% off the 2nd week, 50% the 3rd etc.) you can get a real deal here. Items seem to be clean and well organized. I found glittery American Apparel leggings for $2 and my bf found a vintage wool suit jacket in excellent condition for $4. the staff is really nice and they donate to a different charity each month. read more

This is literally the best Thrift Store I have ever been too. It's a little overwhelming when you first walk in, but if you are in the mood to hunt, you will find amazing items. This is my favorite hole-in-the-wall thrift store in the Richmond area, They have books, music, clothes, accessories,furniture,household accessories, kitchen items, etc. I've found some nice things here. But the place is small, so they have less merchandise than other stores. The prices are color-coded that reflect no discount to a 75% discount. The profits go to great causes. TQ supports only small, local charities that often get over looked when people donate their time and money. They have a donation basket in front for "Friendshare" which aids individuals and families in need. The staff is mostly volunteer and always very friendly.
