If you're in the market for Records - new or used - this is a must stop place in Richmond. Heck, if…read moreyou're in the area, you should stop by and just browse a bit. There really is nothing more soothing than listening to classic rock on an record - and believe me, the owner plays vinyl. It's not a massive store, but rather a wonderfully curated collection. The new selection is impressive and the used collection, a bit picked over from the holidays, featured some really good prices (as low as 3 bucks). The stock looked to be in great shape. I had a great conversation with the owner - who looked pained when he realized it was my first time there, right after his stock had been decimated by Christmas shoppers. Still I left impressed.

The selection here had me delusional for a minute and I forgot that I live on a budget. I…read moredefinitely went overboard with my initial vinyl choices, but the guy working there was very understanding (which makes sense since he's a cog in the machine that casted the voodoo spell on me in the first place). He had such a positive vibe and was incredibly friendly and was just like, "You can put anything you don't want to buy in this pile and I'll put everything back." He also asked if I wanted him to tally up my selections before he actually rang them up, but I declined and decided to trust my erratic arithmetic skills and go all in (either I'm a mathematical genius or I do math at a 1st grade level, no in between). He even so kindly offered to get the door for me as I was leaving. All in all, I took a quick photo of my reject pile, so I will return to rescue those wishlist items ASAP. Don't know how I never noticed this shop before now; my loss!

Vinyl Conflict (I'm assuming named after the Slayer boxset of same name) is a great store I came…read moreacross online. They had a bunch of cheap cheap $3-$10 records and I bought some. All were used (and all were in great shape upon arriving). Pretty freaking cool for $85 (includes shipping), for 13 records, that I genuinely enjoy and look forward to listening to again. I was really pleasantly surprised at how many records they had on the cheap that were in my wheelhouse. The descriptions on the website were very helpful, letting me (the buyer) know the condition of the record, if it came with an insert/poster/whatever, and if it was colored. Sometimes even more info than that. These guys and gals know how to vinyl. The guy I communicated with at Vinyl Conflict through email (Bobby) was really cool and didn't care about last-minute additions to my order. Packaging was great too upon receiving it. They're no dummies. Check out Vinyl Conflict, you might find some great music for a great price. Jesus I sound like a commercial. But do it anyway!

It's downtown, so parking sucks but it's worth it…read more They not only sell new and used vinyl, but they also have a few CDs, cassettes, and merch. Helpful and friendly service, awesome and interesting finds, and just something fun to do if you're bored. In fact, I think it was boredom that turned me into a hipster to begin with. And ironically enough, I'm currently in the process of knitting a beanie, no joke. :-D

Wax Moon is a small shop stuffed with niche records, CDs, tapes, t-shirts, posters, pins, patches,…read moreyou name it, for bands you like and bands you don't know you like yet. How niche? Their metal is arranged by genre, both in CDs and LPs. While sure to get fans nitpicking (Manson doesn't qualify as industrial, if you ask me) it also represents the little shop's big dedication to a quality customer experience. Also inside you can find VHS tapes, old school video games, locally roasted coffee beans, and a shop cat. He coordinates well with the overall theme of the store and will give you little love nips when you pet him. Don't overlook the plain black shop exterior or be put off if the shop is full of people in various shades of black clothing and band merch - metalheads are some of the nicest people I know, and Wax Moon lives up to that!

I like the selection and location but the prices are about $10 more than any of the other records…read moreshops in town. Not sure why but I understood why there weren't many shoppers...I was the only shopper there, along with one guy playing the pinball machines in back. That's too bad as I saw many of the records I was looking for but $36-$39 dollars for a record that is priced at $20-$24 elsewhere is a big difference.
