Vinyl Conflict (I'm assuming named after the Slayer boxset of same name) is a great store I came across online. They had a bunch of cheap cheap $3-$10 records and I bought some. All were used (and all were in great shape upon arriving). Pretty freaking cool for $85 (includes shipping), for 13 records, that I genuinely enjoy and look forward to listening to again. I was really pleasantly surprised at how many records they had on the cheap that were in my wheelhouse. The descriptions on the website were very helpful, letting me (the buyer) know the condition of the record, if it came with an insert/poster/whatever, and if it was colored. Sometimes even more info than that. These guys and gals know how to vinyl. The guy I communicated with at Vinyl Conflict through email (Bobby) was really cool and didn't care about last-minute additions to my order. Packaging was great too upon receiving it. It's downtown, so parking sucks but it's worth it. They not only sell new and used vinyl, but they also have a few CDs, cassettes, and merch. Helpful and friendly service, awesome and interesting finds, and just something fun to do if you're bored. In fact, I think it was boredom that turned me into a hipster to begin with. Stumbled upon this place while waiting for a dinner reservation and I'm so happy I did. This shop has an awesome collection of old and new and every genre you can think of. A lot more organized than some of the record stores I've been to and I found some decent books in there as well. I will be back again! read more

I think this is my favorite record shop. They have a large inventory, especially hard rock/metal. I love sifting through the rows of records. There are general sections but no particular order. Parking is street parking and that's fine. read more

Was in Richmond and walked into this Record store. The fella working there was very nice and pointed us in the right direction for good local punk rock music. Recommended and played several local bands. Stand out was 4 Walls Falling and Prisoner lp's. And gave us a heads up on a local punk rock shown later that night which we went and saw 2 killer bands, The Get Off and NoMan. Didn't get his name but what a cool helpful guy. I'm a lifelong vinyl hound and VC VA is my favorite used record mail order. Did a half dozen orders with them in '24 and will be back for more in '25. Bobby sets the tone for the place, everyone I've ever worked with over the years has been super nice. Even the couple of times I had a small issue that needed to be resolved, the staff couldn't have been better. Great stock (if you like Punk records anyway, can't really comment on other genres) -- prices are always reasonable - and unlike some record stores in the U.S. the staff actually know how to grade accurately and post to the right pressing on Discogs. I'm in a nearby state and look forward to visiting this spot someday. read more

I used to shop at Plan 9 in the 80s when I lived on the east coast so headed there during a recent visit w/the in-laws to see what they had. Stopped by here because my sister loves vinyls and I needed Christmas gifts. The shop is small, but packed with so many records! I probably spent about 30mins here going through all the bins. I found a few items for gifts, but had to regirán from buying so many more. The prices were comparable to what I found online -- some of the newer records were a little more but you're supporting local. This was a great record store. They had boxes outside of new arrivals and I already picked up many great albums before stepping into the store. They mostly have punk rock but they have a pretty wide variety. The person at front desk was very nice. To add the albums were slightly pricier than other stores I have been too but nothing too crazy. All in all this is a great stop for record collectors. read more

I asked for Beatles, Queen, Elvis or Frank Sinatra. They came out with a stack of Beatles and queen. I picked two Beatles and one queen, he said he had just got them from the owner and hadn't even put a price on them. He said total would be 8 bucks (for Beatles and queen?!). When I got home, I was super excited to put the new records on. I didn't end up listening to them for like two days. When I pulled one of the Beatles ones (it was a two-part record) I noticed they gave me two copies of side 1 and 2 instead of 1-4. Then I pulled out the queen one and it kept skipping through bohemian rhapsody and somebody to love. Both records has quite a few of scratches. Just the kind of record store I like. Packed with hardcore and metal. There is nothing worse than going to a local place that is famous and finding a small one row section of music you like. Plus they were playing Gorilla Biscuits. I didn't find any records that I wanted to buy but it was fun looking through all their stuff. Cool shop. Small has alot of underground bands $1 records. I love that. They will carry local music that's cool. I just think a indie shop sould be more into bands that are not Agnostic Front, Misfits, S.O.A. I found a killer 7inc for a buck that is one of 25 copies of a Virginia band called Misanthropy Project. I think it's better then my S.O.A 7inc , Minor Threat and Black Flag records. I think underground bands need a bit more love in a shop like this, as they almost turn there nose up to the non trendy music when you bring it to them. Is that D.I.Y , punk mindset? No its corporate mindset. I will shop there again but I'm not bring anything to sell or trade with them. Luckily, all is good in the world because a place like that exists and it's called Vinyl Conflict. Whether you love all things crust, scuzz, or downright hardcore punk, there is surely a record or CD (or cassette!) for you here. Vinyl Conflict does punk that puts most record shops' punk section to shame. The selection allows one to go as topical as that one Minor Threat record that everyone has or as under the radar as that super underground RVA hardcore band from the early 2000s whose name you almost forgot. If even rooting around in the Black Flag section has you confused or unsure of which record to take home with you, the owners Bobby and Melissa are walking punk encyclopedias and can easily find something that tickles your punk fancy. Richmond's "new" storefront attempt to sell punk records. they also stock cds for people too stupid to find/pirate decent digital music. i REALLY want this place to be better. i don't mind it being small or in a residential area - both of these are pluses in my book for any business. the kids who work here seem to believe in the place, which is another step in the right direction. one of the times i went in here they were nice enough to take a check (which i was told was the first check they ever took - extra points on the gal working the counter for trusting me). all the same, i felt like i was around some kids for whom "punk" is a hairstyle. bummer. the thing lacking at this store is a decent STOCK. aside from a few local odds & ends, there is virtually nothing you could not order 2 minutes after you read this review on amazon.com. this includes their used records, or at least on the number of times i have tried to give them my business. maybe there's somebody who knows what 's REALLY up working there nailing all the good stuff that comes in, or maybe there's a few dudes in Oregon Hill who have Vinyl Conflict scoped out. either way, as much as it pains me to say... sorry kids - LOUD HONKING NOISE - "you lose!!!" please, please, please try harder. please. pretty please? read more

This is my kind of record store. Low key, independant, and pure punk rock! This place blows Plan 9 out of the water! Such a hole in the wall but they have so much heart! Pricing could be a little better but it's how they stay in business so I can't really complain. Their used selection is where it's at. So many 7"s to choose from. I could spend all day in here digging and searching for that special LP. I once saw they had a rare Ramones live album for $30. Still kicking myself to this day for not picking that up. This is Plan 9's definitively more hardcore & punk counterpart in Richmond. I've picked up some sweet things here though: a Devo live record and some really good Miles Davis. I've been eying their selection, though, and I've been itching to get back. Really good store, and even though it's small, I could care less because the content is fucking great. Only real qualm is the parking, as it's in a residential neighborhood, but that can't be helped, eh? This is the way in most of RVA. read more

Specializing in mostly punk, hardcore and metal LPs and 45's, I could spend all afternoon digging through the crates of new and used classics. Bobby is the nicest guy around, and if he doesn't have something, he'll be happy to order for you or suggest an alternative. They also do random daily deals, like buy two get one free and offer specials for people who check in on Yelp. So go check it out. The used selection varies and you can find good deals. Don't be afraid to name your own price especially when it comes to things outside scenster screamo, hardcore whatevers (that is the bulk of their new selection). Some what knowledgeable staff though very niche. PAY attention to pressings because these guys are not well versed in that game so you can get a deal for something that is an earlier or og press because it is not as good shape as some later repressing.
