It's the kind of store where you can easily find something for just about anyone and any occasion. They have a great selection of greeting cards and some of the most unique wrapping paper. Also, we've picked up several Jellycats here for our niece. Prices can run a bit high, but that's part of the charm since many of the items feel thoughtfully curated and aren't the kind of things you'll find everywhere else. The staff is consistently friendly and always greets us when we walk in. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind gift, this is the place.

Tweed is like a home goods boutique selling all of your favorite brands like Scout, Yeti & Lily Pulitzer just to name a few. They also do monogramming (for an additional cost) and custom complimentary gift wrapping. Tweed has easily become my new sanctuary and go-to place for a cute gift, new trinket or handbag. I usually come here when I need last second coffee beans since they carry Recluse coffee. I also have fun visiting this shop with friends when they visit me in Jackson Ward. One of my favorite things to buy here is their birthday card that has a candle imbedded into it along with a match. I think it's so cute and whimsical and the birthday person always loves it. I've been wanting to buy some of their beautifully colored taper candles. Every time I walk in always admire the ladder covered in an array of rainbow candles. If you're looking for a unique gift or a new statement piece, Odd Bird is the place for you.

New Discovery was a medicine for consumption (tuberculosis) a disease which at the time was killing millions of people. Many companies offered cures and remedies for consumption. However, all were frauds, including this, which was actually a concoction made from a morphine and chloroform mixture, calculated to strike terror to the doctors or to any other class or profession, except, perhaps, the undertakers. It is a pretty diabolical concoction to give to anyone, and particularly to a consumptive. The chloroform temporarily allays the cough, thereby checking Nature's effort to throw off the dead matter from the lungs. The opium drugs the patient into a deceived cheerfulness. Add a touch of alcohol (to further dull the sufferer's pain, and hey, it helped (until it didn't) The combination is admirably designed to shorten the life of any consumptive who takes it steadily. I've also seen funky cameras, felt handbags, earrings made from recycled tin and a selection of note cards and stationery that always makes it hard to leave without something. Most recently I'm in love with the little reusable cloth sandwich and snack bags featuring bold patterns; the glass water bottles and wine glasses that are made to resemble their plastic counterparts; and the wooden "Not Plastic Cutlery" that comes in packaged in a cloth napkin.
