This review is mainly for my parents' orders. My father had ordered shrimp salad and my mother ordered the chicken wrap and I ordered the lamb kabob with rice. Father's order: They only gave 5 pieces of bright yellow shrimp with absolutely no flavor. Mothers Order: At first she ordered the chicken wrap but they told her that they didn't have any bread for it so she settled for the salad with chicken koobideh. Her salad dressing was like water with no flavor. Chicken had no flavor either. My order: It wasn't too bad. We are never going here ever again. I'll take that kabob! Make it Juicy! Came here for a dinner and came into to this nice and chic, but small restaurant. Don't be deceived by the outside! I think it's the carpet that makes it look really nice. For dinner the prices are pretty insane. I want to say between $10-20/plate. I had a chicken kabob. Compared to Kabob Hutt, the chicken isn't as juicy. So Kabob Hutt wins with the juicy chicken. BUT the steak kabob wins here at Rumi's! Pretty juicy and just the way I like it. What I also liked about this place was the warm pita bread. I love getting WARM pita bread. The hummus was good too. For dessert we had this Persian sweet dessert with rosemary I believe. I'm not from the area but wanted to take my parents to out to enjoy a real delicious Persian meal!! Rumi's did not disappoint! Food was fresh and authentic (we would know). My mom is an amazing (Persian) cook and it's always a great testament when she takes the name down to visit again! For starters, we had the eggplant dip- they got it RIGHT! Then we each had chicken and lamb kebabs... the portions are generous, food is fresh and tasty- well seasoned! For a traditional post meal, we had hot tea with Sweets. We came in on a Sunday night and there was only one other party of 3 here when we arrived. A few others showed up, but the place was definitely not busy. Service was attentive and prompt. The food...could have been better. I went out on a limb and decided to try their dough drink, uncarbonated. I tried one sip and swore I wouldn't take another. A few minutes later I thought it couldn't have been that bad and decided to try another sip. WHY do I go against my instincts?! It tastes like the yogurt/garlic sauce offered with many Mediterranean dishes, but with a slightly more liquid texture. But as a drink, I prefer not. Used to work here and honestly horrible place. And definitely not sanitary. Especially with the bread. For example if one table just left and had leftover bread that didn't have a bite taken out or any leftover food on it owners and mangers made me put it back at the bottom of the bread bag to be reused. DISGUSTING. And let's mention how horrible Mia is to her staff. Doesn't do half of the work as the servers or whatever what I was(host/server?/busser) and still takes majority of tips and leaves only $7 for us. On a busy night most I got was a 20$. Her own father/owner showed me the pos system just to close someone out to help out more. One day with Mia I tried to close someone out while she was in the back talking on the phone. She aggressively shoved me out of the way and belittled me in front of the costumers. So embarrassing and I started to cry. She didn't care and said all I do is complain and cry to either one of her parents. The owners kids who are unfortunately managers think people who's daddy's didn't give them a restaurant can't learn a computer or do a job better than them. Came here yesterday for my birthday because I saw the wonderful reviews. The ambience, food, and the manager were all great. The one star subtracted is because our waitress did not smile even once. We understood she was the only one working so she was really busy (it took probably 20 minutes to take our order and we honestly didn't mind). I got the filet mignon lunch special the other day. Like another yelper said, 80% rice :C AND I LOVE RICE! But that is waaaaay too much rice for like 3-4 small pieces off meat. I was overcharged when I placed a To-Go order. My total that I signed for was $55 but noticed on my banking app that I was charged $62. They added a tip after I signed for it! Granted it was my fault that I left the tip area of the receipt blank but for them to add their own tip is straight up unethical. My wife and I were craving Persian food but didn't want to drive to OC for our regular spot so we searched for one closer to my parent's house in the IE, and we're so happy we found this place! I called and ordered ahead and it went smoothly with minimal contact. The whole family was hungry so we got Rumi's package #1 and it fed our family of 5 and still had enough for another plate for a midnight snack. Honestly, it was the best beef and chicken koobideh I have had. It was super juicy and had so much flavor. The boneless grilled chicken was my kids' favorite. One thing to mention, I am usually so-so with basmati rice but their rice was perfectly cooked; even my kids liked it! I can't get enough grilled tomatoes and sumac and they provided all that. First, their food is absolutely delicious. I have frequented Rumi's many times and have never had any issues with the food. Unfortunately, today's order pickup left me with a decision to not return. When picking up my order on 07/12/21 at approximately 7:00pm, one of the workers mistakenly gave my order to another customer. Not a big deal, mistakes happen. This worker was an older gentleman, I assume in his 80s, and appeared to be of Asian descent. The owner blew up on this poor man, calling him a slew of names, including "stupid" as well as going off on him in his language. The worker slowly walked toward the back of the dining area and continued to work with his head down. This was absolutely elder abuse, and while I didn't say anything at the time for fear of making matters worse, I am appalled that this happened at all. I work in the service industry so I tend to be a little more lenient than others when it comes to mistakes, but this place really needs to work on their customer service. If you cannot deliver food in an efficient manner, please do not list delivery as an option. Pros: - Their food is actually good, I got the Naderi Soltani and it was delicious. Cons: - 1.5 hour delivery time when the estimated time was 45 - 60 min, no apologies from the delivery guy or the restaurant manager. - I asked for half rice and half Persian Salad, but I only got full rice. Ordered a house dough and had to ask 2 times just to remind the waiter of it lol The Rumi salad we ordered was actually why there is a second star. So I ordered the juicy chicken with zereskh rice. They seemed to have copied a lot of the menu names from Darya but this place serves crap! If your going to steal and copy at least do it right! The chicken was completely dry and rice cold. I had to call over the waiter because they "forgot" our appetizer. Just horrible! Definitely disappointed in service here. Will not be back sadly as it looks like there's potential here.
