We had a roof leak, and I wanted to find out if the wet insulation material in the attic needed to be replaced, or just allowing it to drying out was OK. I left a voicemail yesterday morning, Jose called back a few hours later, and we made an appointment for this morning. He called before leaving the job prior to my appointment, and arrived at the estimated time. He went up to look at the leak area, and assured us that it will be OK to let it to dry out. My husband asked him to look around the attic, to see if there was anything that needed to be done. He noticed an area around a water heater pipe that for safety reasons shouldn't have insulation, and removed what had fallen in around the pipe. He thought we could add some new insulation material after we repaired the roof leak, to fill in areas that have been lost due to workers and rats moving insulation around . We hope to call him back next Summer to discuss this project. (Previous review: We didn't do it last time, because we wanted to wait until we knew there were no more rats up there. I read great reviews on Yelp and contacted Ruiz Insulation for an estimate to bring the attic in my 43 YO 2-story home up to current CA code. Jose came out; inspected my attic and provided a reasonable and honest estimate. I booked the appointment and he and his son Angel stapled radiant barrier to the roof rafters. They installed insulation to all areas that were missing insulation, and then blew in more. They were very neat and courteous and they kept my upstairs carpet clean by laying drop cloths and wearing shoe covers. They showed me the end result and provided before and after pics. We requested several companies to provide a bid for adding insulation to our attic. Mr. Ruiz responded promptly as did one other company. We had requested this on a Friday. Mr. Ruiz responded an arranged a meeting on Monday Morning. Another company that replied also arranged to meet us that Monday in the afternoon. Mr. Ruiz arrived promptly as arraigned. The other company sent us a message shortly before they were to arrive stating they were sick an would not be able to make it. Mr. Ruiz looked at the insulation in our attic and advised that we already had an R value of about 38 and that we really did not need additional. We asked him to prepare an estimate to bring us up to R 50. He prepared an estimate that was extremely reasonable. He advised that because of the insulation in our attic and the trusses used for our roof it would be extremely difficult to put in more bats as it would be very hard to get them through the trusses (about 20 years ago I added bats and it was extremely hard). He wrote the estimate for blown in insulation. We arraigned an appointment that would fit our schedule and he arrived as arraigned. What was supposed to be a two our job only took a little over an hour. They were very thorough and they had protected the main level of the house to prevent any debris. Mr. Ruiz is very professional and honest. I looked at the work after it was done and it was excellent. From my calculations he more than meet our request for R 50. I've call several insulation companies and Ruiz insulation was one of the few that got back to me. The ones that did get back to me, showed up, looked at my job, and I've never heard back from them or gave me an outrageous quote. Keep in mind, my job was roughly a 350 square foot tiny house. So the job isn't terribly small and could be done in half a day. This was to insulate all walls and ceiling. I wanted batting and not spray on. Jose Ruiz was very professional. He checked out my project and got back to me the same day with a bid price. Price is definitely reasonable and even better.... reliable! I can't tell you how many contractors I've been working with during this build that won't even respond to calls after a job walk. I signed the contract and scheduled a date for the installation. Can not recommend this honest and trustworthy company enough. I had Ruiz out to take a look at our attic and assess the insulation situation. I explained that I was having some issues with cooling the house and i wondered if I might need to address it by replacing/removing insulation. Upon looking at the attic they determined that there was nothing wrong with the insulation but discovered issues with my duct work. As this was something they don't deal with they could have easily done nothing but they went out of their way to come up with a temporary fix to tide me over until an HVAC pro could come out and resolve the issue. Warning! Avoid this company! Jose the owner came and measured my house and gave me an estimate for insulation in two rooms as well as the attic. The walls were exactly 400 sq feet according to him. We got an estimate from another company for the two rooms as well as a third room (bathroom) and it was only 358 feet. I asked Jose if he had included any other walls and he said no. We still wanted to use him because he had more availability but I explained the large discrepancy in the measurement. I asked if he could double check on the day of the job to confirm. He got defensive and angry and canceled on us. It was totally unnecessary. We were willing to pay his estimate, we just wanted to understand the different figures. Asking about it did not seem unreasonable, but it apparently offended him. And I didn't even ask him why his measurement of the attic found 20% more square feet (650 vs 542) than the other company. If you use this Jose, do yourself a favor and get a 2nd estimate. He is inflating the square feet in his estimate. read more

First of all, he responded to my questions right away. Answered all concerns i had. His price was the most reasonable. My wife mentioned that she felt comfortable with him in the house. some of the other estimators would scope around the house. These guys came in to do what they needed to, explain what it would take and answered any and all questions. They did the job in just a few days and left the place looking clean. They removed the old insulation, spray foamed to seal up any areas that had potential for air leaks, installed foil to the attic as well as installed spray insulation, and fixed the insulation for one of the air vents to one of the rooms. I even had them install foam board with built in attic foil in one of the small attic areas. Overall, I was really happy with them. As a result of the insulation, there's usually about a 20 degree difference between the outside and the oustide. I think the second floor on the day its 107 this summer, our second floor was as hot as 94. this is only about 13 degree difference but as it rises from morning to the late afternoon there's usually a difference of 20 degrees. I haven't lived through a cold winter yet but recently it has gotten cooler. Outside temp has dropped to about 50 degrees but our house even with a window open is still 71-73 degrees inside. I think it'll save us money during the winter months I'm pretty happy about it. read more

Hired Ruiz Insulation to clear out old attic insulation, seal it up and replace. Jose is very responsive, direct and answered all of our questions. Quote was provided in a very timely manner. The work was scheduled quickly. The start was delayed by 1 day - no fault of Jose's - but he was very communicative about this. Jose and his crew did a great job cleaning up after each day - you would never have known they were there (and it was messy work!). What's more, at the end of the job Jose informed me that our attic space had less square footage than he quoted us for and so he dropped the final price by $500. He could easily have charged us the original quote and we would never have known the difference. It is also worth noting that, although Ruiz insulation is not a SMUD contractor (so we did not get the SMUD rebate) his end price was more affordable than two other quotes we got that included the SMUD rebate! We needed more blown-in insulation added to what existed in the attic of the living area of our house and new insulation put in the attic above our garage which never had any. I thought we might also need it in the walls of our garage, but since the side faces north and is always in the shade, Jose said it wasn't really necessary.
