Layers Bakeshop - Brownies! Not really brownie texture to me, more like rich dense chocolate cake. But it was still really good!

Updating my review from 2 years ago - I decided to give Layers another try and bought two different…read moreflavors of "brownies" and 2 pints of ice cream. To start, they "brownies" are not actual brownies. They are individual slices of cake. I didn't notice this 2 years ago but having it again last night, the Cadbury brownie tastes like a layered sheet cake made from box mix. The frosting on top wasn't too sweet, but certainly doesn't carry the richness of Cadbury chocolate. In a slice this simple, there's really no place to hide and paying that much for something that taste like it was battered out a box is not worth it in my opinion. The Dubai chocolate slice tasted better, but tbh, the Dubai chocolate cake from Costco not only tastes better but has a better price point! I was really excited to try their ice cream - I loved their flavor choices, but that's where my fondness pretty much stopped. The pints were pricey and taste super home made (not in a good way). The ice cream was hard and while it tasted like sweet cream, it was definitely not churned enough to carry a smooth texture. They pints were Van Leeuwen prices but the taste and texture was far from quality ice cream. In this case, I much rather pick up a pint of Hagen Daz, again much better price point and better quantity. The store is pretty but I won't be returning.

Cardinali Bakery Carle Place is an institution. For 50 glorious years this lovely Italian family…read morehas brought so much love, infinite smiles and happy tummies to all with their consistent and unparalleled quality and class. The fresh bread - the onion loaf is the best in NY; the ciabatta is crazy delicious and addicting. Love their cannolis - filled and I do mean filled to the max with the heavenly and creamy ricotta cheese mix and those chocolate chips. Their cakes are in a league of their own- no one can touch their rainbow cake and cannoli cake. The fruit tarts have the best, fresh fruit and are also divine. The muffins - banana nut, pistachio and cranberry are scream worthy( as in shout out loud awesome). Saving the best for last - the almond horns. The coffee is really good too. The bakery is immaculate. I mean spotless. The ladies working are sweet, sharp and very courteous. I love that they opened a custom cake shop right next door in 2013 specializing in wedding cakes. Cardinali Carle Place is open 7 days a week. If you come by around 7:07 am look for this guy in the parking lot smiling as he loves on his fresh loaf of bread dipping it in his hot coffee.

While waiting, I noticed people purchasing their semolina loaf and made the decision to get this bread, too. I purchased a fresh strawberry cake, 1 lobster roll with custard, one with crème, 2 small cannoli, and one semolina bread. The strawberry cake was tasty and not super sweet. The cannoli was delicious and crispy. The lobster tails were amazing. And the semolina was one of the better breads he has found. Service was prompt and the bakery was clearly marked with entry and exit. The line was orderly and I only regret it is not super close to our home.

Their pastries are top notch, both in ingredient and aesthetics, but beyond that I am most impressed with the customer service at this location. They stand behind excellence and ensure customer satisfaction, and it shows in their demeanor and action when something is not 100% up to par. If you're looking for something delicious and beautiful, or a piece of cake, tart, or mousse that will impress, this is your place! It's worth every penny!

And now an even closer location in Plainview! Pretty soon they're gonna open one right in my backyard or something haha. It is a lovely spot for authentic French-inspired pastries and coffee. I've had everything here including cupcakes, brownies, croissants, macarons, cookies, madelines, etc. I've also come here to get a small cake for special occasions. It is also a very nice place to come with friends and enjoy a coffee and pastries. The elegant, pristine interior with marble accents and beautiful displays creates a welcoming Parisian vibe. Perfect for a quick treat or relaxed sit-down. I love the cookies here, they're soft and chewy unlike the Plainview FWS I always leave with a giant bag of 5 of every different flavor of cookie(chocolate chip, nutella, oreo, pistachio, etc) because the texture is so soft and smooth. My new obsession is the fruits of the forest cake. So delicious! Its a must try!!! It gets packed in here, but the line moves quickly! If you haven't tried FWS yet, what are you waiting for?
