Fantastic store filled with fun gifts, brilliant cards, and extremely friendly employees. Walked in here curious about gift wrapping my mother's birthday gift, which was oddly sized. Since I ultimately decided against wrapping, they offered to wrap some ribbon around it at no charge. Lovely indie stationary shop. Carry stationary lines including Cranes, letterpress from the Berkshires or local outlets, and a nice range of small gifts. Bought a few gifts, a beautiful notepad from British museum collection and a fun dish towel from Blue Q/based in Western Mass. I really love this store. It's more on the expensive side (it's on Charles Street + they have Vera Wang stationary) but so cute. I think their card selection is awesome, although I paid almost $9 the other day for just two. Ouch! The thing is.. they were perfect! It's like I custom ordered them for the people I was sending them to. I try not to come here often because I get kind of dangerous in card stores. I end up buying cards for future occasions that don't exist yet (someone will have a grandson soon.. no worries). They have some humorous cards, pop up cards, even a section of cards made with recycled paper. They also have some knick knacky kind of stuff, postcards, books, notebooks, handmade paper, stamps, etc. I saw these really cute ice packs that were in the shape of Little Miss Happy and friends. Aww... I'm clumsy enough that investing in ice packs probably wouldn't be a bad idea. It's hit or miss with the employees, sometimes they're really nice.. sometimes they chit chat like you're not there.. but I honestly don't need assistance when I'm browsing for cards. Although they do have a lot of wedding stuff, so I can see someone getting frustrated about not getting approached over that. I saw one of the girls wrapping a present and thought it looked like art. haha.. I loveee their wrapping paper and she was going all crazy with the ribbons (a large stack full of them). My one annoyance is that the place is small.. and with 4 people in the store browsing it was getting awkward bumping into each other and backing up into corners so people could get by. Cute little place with TONS of wedding invitation options and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. A fellow-bride-to-be friend of mine and I attended a free wedding invitation seminar at Rugg Road last week and it was very informative even though all the option were a bit daunting and overwhelming. I am proud to say that I can now tell the difference between letterpress, engraving and thermography. WOO! I had intended to do them myself but after seeing all the gorgeous stuff they had, I'm torn. Anyways, its not cheap, but its personal and its nice. If my budget and boyfriend will let me, I'll get the invites from Rugg Rd :) read more

My sister had a disaster with her wedding invitations, so we went to Rugg Road in hopes that they could produce something quickly. Not only is the location charming, but they have an on-site graphic designer to walk you through several (affordable!) invitation possibilities. My sister wanted something custom, and Rugg Road delivered it on a rush basis. Their taste was spot-on, thanks to a quirky and earthy chic who helped her realize her vision. Rugg Road helped us match unique fonts, and even lent us their employee computer in the back to download proofs from the (botched!) set of invitations. Speaking of proofs, they can be sent over email for $20 for each review. We only needed one, since Rugg Road got it right the first time -- layout, wording, fonts, everything! The final result was breathtaking: wasabi green invitations with engraved brown lettering, custom edging, and rice paper linings! If you're a bride-to-be, it's worthwhile to attend one of their free wedding seminars. A coworker attended and said that they review a plethora of options for any budget, and also go over etiquette. read more

Back when I had a lot of free time, I used to buy a lot of paper from this store. Paper and scrapbook-making supplies. The paper selection is truly something-- pressed flower paper, shiny paper, matt paper, colors you have never heard of, etc. Not cheap to make your own, and time consuming, but what great gifts they make. This cute little store also has cards and other crafty stuff. I believe they still offer classes in scrapbook making. Great for when your looking for a special occasion card, invitation, or some very nice thank you notes. It is on the pricey side so prepare yourself...But they carry great brands such as Crane & Co, Lilly Pulitzer, Jonathan Adler etc. They also have great little Boston themed post cards which I LOVE. Polka dot lobsters, those orange parking tickets, views of Fenway, the T, and other Boston landmarks are adorable post cards which are perfect to send to your friends from far away! And they are only a $1--possibly the only reasonably price item in the store, but that's besides the point. read more

Love, love, love this place. I get excited thinking of friends/family birthdays and holidays just because it gives me a reason to go here. All the cards here are so adorable, creative and original. They have a great selection for all types of occasions that you definitely won't find at CVS or Walgreens. I especially love their pop-up cards but they go really quickly (I was lucky enough to get one for my mom for Mother's Day but only because I got it a week early). I've never bought card sets or invitations but they seem to have quite a few choices located throughout the store. They're a little pricier than than chain stores that sell cards and stationary but it's well worth it. Also they close pretty early (like 6 i think) so if you're planning on going after work, make it quick. Definitely suggest this store when you're looking for that "Aha!" card but expect to spend longer than usual just cause they have so much to look at. read more

HOWEVER, just trust me on this, folks, the selection of stationery is TO DIE FOR! And the ladies in there are super friendly! It makes you more O.K. with spending too much money! They have cards for every conceivable need. And they're inventive, unique, just gorgeous! And they have all these different colors for their wrapping tissue! Sometimes, they get a little caught up with each other, making something for the store, and forget to check on you, or maybe they take too long with individual customer service, but once it's your turn, you do get their full attention. Well. I have been in here a few times. Once for a pair of reading glasses (which were cool). Plus Ann and another customer helped me pick out a great pair. Another time to pick out a birthday card and was luckily guided to a card that said "if we were In Prison together i would definitely Shiv someone for you". Toay I was in for a birthday bag or paper and luckily Ann was cool enough to wrap my daughters birthday gifts so I could mail them out. What a joy! Customer Service here is great! A cute (yet pricey) paperie on Charles St. I ended up buying some ribbons to wrap holiday gifts (using TJ's brown paper bags-- the ribbons make all the difference!). They had very nice papers, cards, ribbons, and trinkets, but I don't think I'd ever make the store a destination, as there are many similar shops in the Boston area, some with better prices. Best for last-minute things if you live in Beacon Hill, if you like dropping bank, need custom wedding invitations or if you're already shopping in the area, I think. read more

Almost a smaller version of Paper Source, this locally-run paper (and much more) store is right on Charles Street. Having majord in Graphic Design, and having lived on Beacon Hill during college, it was super-convienent for paper supplies. It's a little pricey, but they have some really unique items here. This store was very nice, so were the two ladies that were there. I called just to double check if the had 70 envelopes (nothing to fancy), for my save the dates and they were friendly and well spoken on the phone, as so in person. They placed my envelopes on hold. When I visited the store I was well greeted and they both had excellent customer service I will be back in march for more envelopes and tissue paper. Thanks ladies!!!! I like the selection of stationary and assorted sizes they carry. I especially like the teeny box sets in pretty colors. Rugg Road also carries an enormous variety of invitation and custom formal lines. I think it would a great place for elegant and perfectly detail-oriented wedding invitations. The ONLY downside to this store is that because it is small you sometimes can't get the same products at all times. They can run out of your favorite thank you notes, etc. But in general, it's great, and the selection of pretty and cute cards (this is not Hallmark) is truly unparalleled. Hello, I moved to MA many years ago and I had a doctor I use to see in the area. I went by this store and fell absolutely inlove with this paper store. I admit the paper is pricy, but is it worth it? YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! I do think so! I love this store. I have now moved to upstate NY and I still make excuses to come all the way to Boston to stop by this store and buy some paper. I love it!!! Always have. I have a friend who knows how I love quality paper, so she takes me to this huge paper store iin NYC. It does not almost compete with the Rugg Road paper store. I didn't see any paper that was as unique or as pretty as the Rugg paper. NOTHING!!! Yes they carried nice paper here and there, but not unique and as beautiful as the Rugg store paper. Beautiful classy paper. I plan to go there some time on the labor day weekend from NY, because I need a good excuse to drop by. : )))) I love you RUGG PAPER!!! See you soon!
